Map of the entire roster by (approximate) animal distribution

I would just say to keep the original map with animals only showing up on their most common continent (so reindeer in Europe and polar bears in Canada). Otherwise you open up a can of worms with things like the puma in both continents, cheetahs and lions in Asia, etc., which could take up space if there are still a decent number of DLC packs left.

I like the new map and the original map. The arctic icons don’t bother me much

Well in the end I went with both. They have now been added to the main post.

I compiled a map of animals by distribution. each animal is placed in roughly the center of it's distribution. Thought this could help people plan their zoos and examine the roster.

Habitat animals:

  1. Timber Wolf - according to the zoopedia, he wolf represents the entirety of the gray wolf,so its full range includes North America, Europe, and Asia
  2. Saltwater Crocodile - range includes India, Indonesia and Australia
  3. Greater Flamingo - migratory, range includes most of Africa, southern Europe, and western and southern Asia
  4. King Penguin - range includes islands in the Indian Ocean, southmost South America and some islands south of New Zealand
  5. Southern Cassowary - found in both australia and Papua new guinea
  6. Jaguar - found both in southern NA and most of SA
  7. Gray Seal - Found in the northern Atlantic Ocean, including Canada, Greenland, Iceland, UK and Ireland

UPDATE: All maps have been updated for maximum accuracy according to DrBurrito's suggestions, which included the moving of some animals to more accurate locations. He did an amazing job analyzing the maps I made, and he deserves all credits for the new edits.
Yoav, could you also post the duplicates map? I'm trying to put together a list but I need to be sure where all the animals are exactly.

EDIT: Never mind, I didn't see the split hemisphere maps

Yo, how didn't I see this before ? This is splendid !

P.S. This helps to show what we are missing still. By this map I can guess we'll for sure get desert pack to fill in North Africa and Middle East + Emu, and at very least Eurasian pack for Europe and Northern and Central Asia, if not then two separate packs, and plus Aviary and we should be set

Thanks!

I agree with your assesement, except for that northern asia is already filled (arctic fox, moose, reindeer, polar bear, timber wolf), with the only major omission being the wolverine. And I'd argue south america is still far too empty compared to other continents.

Your idea is very great but I think you should make a map with the habitat and exhibition animals so that it looks much better :)

The crowded areas of the maps wouldn't really handle a mix like this well. The species images would overlap and cover each other.

Thanks!

Oh yeah, correct, I forgot the SA, one solid animal pack could be made for it.

Northern Asia I thought to be combined with Europe for maybe Japanese Crane, Przewalski Horse, Amur Leopard + Lynxes and Wolverines and Ibexes

UPDATE 04/10/2021: all maps have been updated for the North America pack.
Out of all the many awesome things about this map and the work that went into making it, I really find it helpful that it can be used to form opinions on what areas are super underserved or could use more representation.

Interesting, didn't get pinged for this tag. I guess edited tags don't ping lol

As for the split hemisphere maps, they provide a new perspective, I like it. You might want to expand it to animals outside the Arctic (e.g. gray seal)

Edit: Nevermind, you've already done it on the original post, missed that.

I considered doing it for the Cougar, King penguin and Jaguar as well

I would avoid doing it for the king penguin, as the subspecies in the game is Aptenodytes patagonicus patagonicus
