Modes Mega ships open only content?

I've kind of kept out of this since you jumped in to peddle your own version of ED that you insist everyone else participate in but I find myself compelled to ask a question:

How does one defend something, anything in this game 24 hours a day, 7 days of the week. Is your faction big enough to ensure permanent presence at all times? I know I live in a different timezone, so I can say with a minimum of 75% confidence that I could play when I know you aren't, since I am retired and can play whenever I want to. I also know that I could get a big enough group to assist me in this, just to shut you up. Oh and yes it would be in Open.

You seem to be under the impression that the game revolves around conflict, that everyone must participate in PvP, that everyone is hell bent on conquering whomever is nearby. That players can't coexist in a shared galaxy without everyone attacking everyone else. Your focus is on one very small aspect of the game, one that only a minority participate in, one that could be easily disabled in the game and the vast majority of players wouldn't even notice.

This post sums up perfectly why even if BGS was open only, people would still be 'attacked' without ever seeing their attackers. Does it not occur to people that players from all over the world play this game, and at different times? Add into the equation instancing, blocking, and 3 different platforms, and it'd be easy to never see your attackers if they are determined to mine your salt. I'm not saying it's right, or that I agree with it, but I don't see how this is ever going to change. How does 90's kid propose to get around these issues?

You know what? For all of you usual suspects who still think that BGS should still be on private and solo in addition to open, Imma leave this post right here.....

You know, it's funny how you've turned in a request by the Rats for players to do PvE, with zero mention of PvP what so ever, and somehow turned it into this...

Guys, the Fuel Rats just had their faction taken over by a group in private and there NOTHING they can do about it. They can’t go and confront these people because said people who confronted the Fuel Rats faction are hiding in a PG and are afraid to come out. This is the kind of crap we’re trying to make you guys see. But you have your heads so far up your rear ends that you can’t listen to simple reason.

The most amazing thing is that the link actually mentions what they can and are doing about it: going to a CZ, kill NPCs, and turn in the combat bonds. They even mention which combat sites players can go to.

Yes and with no way to counter the attackers personally. It’s just now just a stupid contest of who can outgrind who the most.

After seeing the most recent Livestream. The one about the BGS. I came away with one indication about Megaships being open only. They won't be. It looks as if anything tied to the BGS will be available in all modes. They stressed the notion that the BGS in its entirety will be available in any of the modes during their conversation. I figure, there's the answer right there.

And do you realize how pointless it is trying to "counter" anyone? Even if they they were inclined to (wasting valuable time in the process) they would need to:

a) Get the time right
b) Get the platform right
c) Get the CZ right

The way instancing works in this game's peer-to-peer networking, if the people they're trying to counter aren't either:

a) Living near them
b) On their friends list
c) Winged Up
d) Share a VPN

They'll never see each other anyways. This game is not set up for that kind of thing.

Looks like you understand how it works. And that's the idea behind the game system.
You might not like it, but WHOLE game is based on it, so you should really stop complaining, because you most likely would like to play some other game.

If they USE a VPN, I don't want them in my instance anyways. Their actual latency sucks.

“If you don’t like it, don’t play it.”

Not an argument.

What?
What kind of argument do you need?
Do you buy bread and start complaining that it should look and taste more like muffin and insist that baker should change bread recipe?

Im not arguing whether your idea would make good or bad game. I'm telling you, this game is not that kind of game you would like, it was created with different priorities in mind, game design is different and its not something that's going to change for various reasons that were explained here (and probably in other threads throughout the years) more eloquently by others.

Actually it is a very valid argument, why participate in something that gives you no joy, no satisfaction and no enjoyment?

Well group vs group is something that actually brings me a lot of joy, especially when there are big wing fights involved between different groups. It creates story, it creates content, and there is a lot of fun to be had on both sides. But no I should just sit down in the corner and keep quiet when someone or some people are actively trying to sabotage your group from a different mode that is inaccessible by anyone but that hostile group.

But that only means that you're trying to play this game in a way that wasn't part of the design. And you get frustrated, because it doesn't work.

I mean, you can still have those fights, but to win war you must use game mechanics.

Hang on one moment, it has already been shown in this thread how it is nearly impossible to 'defend' a system/station due to time zones, instancing, different platforms etc just in Open. Well that is unless your little band of merry men are going to patrol 24 hours a day, 7 days a week - which I severely doubt will be the case. You seem to forget that the NPC element play just as bigger part in all of this than the Commanders do, and you can't tell MoM to rewrite the code for her minions just to suit you!

It is ok to force PVP.
Depends on what you mean and the context - in terms of forcing players to deal with PvP via game mechanics without an alternate option, no it is not.

If you mean "engage in PvP with a player in Open or in a PG that does not explicitly prohibit it" then within reason you are right - but only to a point.

Overall though, ED is not and never should become a PvP focused/centric product where the main environment is concerned - if you don't like that then go play something else and stop trying to turn every on-line game into your version of PvP-friendly (and what at least some would call PvP-hell).

There is little thing called coordination M00ka.

Yep fully agree, but you seem to think coordination only works when you are doing it, and I still believe you are kidding yourself if you think you can get sufficient numbers of Commanders to be online 24 hours a day, every day just to defend something. You will not be defending against one group, you will be defending against anyone who happens to be in that little bit of space you deem important. Just lone wolves flying to somewhere else can effect the BGS, are you saying you can stop EVERYONE?
