This is why pistols and short carbines exist. Not that I'm opposed to melee in space games. Fun is fun.

Don't forget about zero G, especially in ships and outposts. Melee wouldn't be great for that, and so wouldn't be kinetic weapons because of the recoil. There are those fancy magnetic boots, but lasers would actually be the weapon of choice.
