Meridian - a planetary circumnavigation

zc0S7nW.jpg

This was far and away the toughest summit. It took three different runs from three different starting locations to finally make it.

There were places that deceptively steep so what looked like a good workable route, quickly became impassable. There was one point where I rolled down probably half the mountain before I managed to regain control. It has been a while since I was genuinely worried about losing my one and only SRV, and failing this circumnavigation. Regardless of the temptation, this will be my last mountain climb of this trip.

Finally making it to the tallest peak, the size of the shadow this mountain was jaw dropping. It extends almost to the horizon This thing is huge.

Nice progress! Good luck for the home stretch.

Thanks. At this point, I am figuring I should be wrapping up the driving part in about a week, so anyone who is entertaining the idea of stopping by for a bit, there are only a few days left.

Once I have reached the North Pole again, I am seriously considering using my ship to survey this moon, and find those damned geysers, regardless of how frustrating that will be.

I made a little headway today, but not a whole lot. Came upon a crater inside a crater inside a crater.

Parked up for the night. I know I said no more mountains, but this one just looked too interesting to pass up, so my first order of business tomorrow is to climb it.

Excellent! I plan on being back in my SRV on about three hours from the time of this post. Have you gotten your approval for Fleetcomm yet, or should we use my group like last time? Also, how do toy feel about climbing that little mountain?

Yes, Fleetcomm is approved.
3 hours time is 2am here, I'll give it a go, probably for an hour max.
The mountain climb sounds good.
I'm actually parked near the top of the mountain at the moment but I'll fly back down again.

2am is pretty late/early. I can try to sneak in a bit earlier

Commander Nick Sticks dropped by again. This time in a Golden Asp Explorer.

We climbed a mountain. Cmdr Sticks on one peak, and me on another.

We then headed down, and back towards the -16.5° meridian I have been travelling along. An unfortunately active rock jumped out and finished off what was left of an already weakened chassis, and Cmdr Sticks SRV adventures were done for the day.

However, We had come upon a nice ledge, and I had just installed and setup my video recording software, and caught this spectacular roll up out of the canyon...

Thanks again commander for the fun visit!

This is the thirty day mark of this expedition, which was the original estimate for completion time, but many interesting things have side tracked me, so I am officially extending the expedition for another week.

After my last visit to Straha's planet I headed back to Colonia with a small detour to look at and survey a Nebula.
My T7 has done me well this last year on the journey from the bubble to Colonia and beyond but now was the time for a change and the Asp Explorer looked good. I had to canabalise my T7 for certain modules and hunt around the Colonia region for the rest to get a half decent build that would work. Finally, looking in outfitting I could see I had three paint jobs already available to me, my usual Stealth Black, and with no idea how I got them, Gold and Golden. I wanted a complete change so the shinier Golden was applied.

But now I need a trip to test it out, where could I go. I know, let's go and disturb Straha!

The shinier Aspx is more visible in the shadows than my old black T7.

Setting off for the mountains. Chassis looks good at 100%.

No room for me up there. I'd better find my own peak.

That's better, with Cmdr Straha in the distance.

After getting our bearings we decide on getting back onto Cmdr Straha's journey.

All's going well. Check the chassis again, hmm 84%, need to keep an eye on that.
Looks like I still have my shield on. This set up is still new and I've forgotten to turn a few modules off for this jaunt.

All was going well when suddenly my SRV went boom, those last few rocks were harder than they looked!
Luckily my escape pod took me straight to my ship in orbit.
After flying through the valley I emerged over the cliff (see Cmdr Straha's video) and landed behind my companians SRV.

With no spare SRV I have to watch Cmdr Straha Yeagar drive on alone.

Good luck on the journey, see you next time!

The terrain has been favourable, and there haven't been any mountains to temp me, so aside from a few decent sized crater, I made decent headway.
