Am I the only one who thinks the career levels are like, the best part of the game?
It's the only mode where it feels truly like a zoo game, and not just a complicated box of creative tools.
"Fix an abusive and shabby looking zoo, and turn it into a sanctuary!" "Take this limited space and make the most of it, choosing wisely where the habitats should go!" "Make a thriving zoo out of this abandoned casino!" "Breed this many animals and release them into the wild!" This is the game's strong point, and it's the most fun I've had with it.
I'm always daunted by a blank canvas. And the tedium of building certain things piece by piece. I DO love the flashy creative parts, when they give us a zoo in scenario mode where we don't have to start from scratch. That's why the screenshots of the Aztec jungles in the South America Pack got me excited at first-- I though we'd be given a cool career mode to work in. I appreciate that PZ leans into the creative freedom (much better than Zoo Tycoon XBox!) But I like having environments to build in.
So what if Frontier let players build our one scenarios, with goals and challenges? I suppose people already have the freedom to build a dumpy-looking zoo, and let people fix it. But we can only open workshop zoos in Sandbox mode, right? It would be better if the person who uploaded their zoo to the workshop has the option to set restrictions (money, CC, research, goals and challenges) and we could open it in Challenge mode to play by their rules, or Sandbox mode to play freeform.
I'd also really love if Frontier released a big pack of scenarios, one day. Even without animals, the scenarios alone would be a treat. If Frontier takes their time with them, to make some truly great ones, I'd be willing to wait as long as it takes. I didn't like the ones from the Arctic pack... I though they were very lacking. I loved many from the base pack, like the Goodwin tutorial zoo, Hiring Freeze, the Meyers casino scenario, the Greek islands scenario, the Japanese prefecture zoo, and the Great Caldera. I'd love to see more like this.
