my first Impression of ED on the PS4pro

Even though the screen tearing issue is annoying, and I fear it might not be a day one fix, it's important we remember one important thing...

We will be able to play the game on Tuesday whether it tears or not. So don't let it bother you too much, just fire up that Frame Shift Drive and get out there and have fun.

Ya wanna see tearing, play NMS, though they have fixed the problem dramically from the ones in the beginning, they are still an issue to contend with. Sometimes they are so big one can actually fall or be engulfed in it, subsequently the only way out is to reset to previous save. Tears in NMS are numerious and sometime extremly large and swallow an entire ship. I once attempted to call my freighter and accidently aimed at a part of the screen with a tear. It was gone, never to return until relaoding the previous save.

This is my first post here so welcome everybody!

I received my copy yesterday, don't know why it came so early, I just preorded it at a local store so apologize to everyone who is angry about that. Nevertheless there are just trainingsmissions and a few challenges playable right now, because the servers are offline until tuesday!

Sorry to share bad news in my first comment, but I have to tell you all that screen tearing is on the standard PS4 the same as on the pro!

But the game just rocks and the screen tearing seems to be the only problem, everything else works very smoothly and I can't wait for open servers!!!

I really hope this is fixed in day one patch. Nothing more distracting than screen tearing.

Hopefully a quick fix as Lloyd seemed surprised to see it in the live stream so maybe on a specific build.

Lloyd already commented about the tearing issue in this thread. He took notice but he doesn't have anything to share at the moment.
If day one patch fixed this issue, he would have mentioned it. [sad]

Usually devs turn off V-Sync just to improve the framerate. It's a good tradeoff. It's really better to have some tearing here and there than a bad framerate. No doubt on that. The best choice in-between is having an option to turn it on/off, so everyone will be fine.

Thanks for the post OP, highlighting and issues in the none salty manner that you have is the first step to getting any problems resolved.

Sure it isn't the best thing to find right before launch but the post achieved what was needed in highlighting the issue and now FDev are directly aware of said issue. Which they may well already be aware of and in classic FDev manner are not giving the game away regarding the day one patch and if it fixes it.

For me it's not game breaking and I have full confidence FDev will have the issue resolved via the Day1 patch or within a short time after release.

As a bonus it seems when my Pro downloads the game tomorrow I can play the tutorials WAAHOO

I'm probably way to late... the panic mill is already grinding.

But do you guys have any idea how old the game build is that is on those physical discs? It's not the 90ies anymore, when a game had to be really finished and working before it came to retail stores.
The build is probably weeks old, maybe even way over a month. And do you know what happens in the last few weeks before a game is released? That's right: it's all about optimisation!

So I'm honestly not really concerned about any of this...

No doubt on that??? I've got you some doubt right here buddy, lots of doubt!

It's a bit a of tearing VS sub-30 fps and huge input lag. Especially on PS4 standard. Obviously it would be better to have an option just to turn on/off V-Sync, but better framerate is always the priority gameplay wise.

It ain't Tuesday till it's Tuesday ;)

Fair enough, good sir! :D

What?

"Bit of tearing" is an understatement! [haha]
Sub 30fps is expected, i just hope it doesn't dive below 20...
Huge input lag? A what now? How am i going to pilot my ship with the Hotas? That does it... *Throws Hotas 4 in the garbage bin*

Apparently the Xbox doesn't get it so whats the deal? V-Sync on the Xbox?

Not to mention xbox is a less powerful console.
Different teams porting the game? Both consoles architecture's the same... What gives? [blah]
It's certainly not an hardware issue or the lack of there of...

I've tried a few of the training missions and I can confirm the screen tearing issue is also on the standard PS4 and pretty much constant as well. Its when you head look around, moving the ship and in the camera suite. Its not so noticable when there is only dark space infront of you, but any bright objects and it is very noticable. It seems they forgot to turn on v-sync or lock the framerate in the retail version. I believe the framerate is variable at around 30fps and above. I will wait for the day one patch to fix this before I condemn the game.

The 2 default control settings were not right for me. In particular the pitch and roll on the left stick felt wrong to me. Muscle memory from playing Battlefield games. Thankfully I can change them in the control settings. I have an issue with the vertical thrust axis being mixed with alternate flight controls thrust forward and backward axis. Dev's, is this a bug? Makes landing very difficult when you want to descend but it goes backwards as well. One good thing to note is you can set more than one button to a bind. I have set 75% throttle to L1 + R1 which if you've played before it sets the optimum speed for approaching stations to drop out of super cruise so you don't overshoot.

The positives are the textures look sharp and detailed. The amazing sound track and effects is the same as the PC version and the game hasn't crashed once yet. :)
