PvP my pvp experience

Actually they don't (except for Korean grindfests and some Russian games).

Well they kinda do. Until FD remove PvP from the game entirely, which I daresay is not on the cards, the only people that lose out is the PvE players getting ganked and the non-ganky PvPers. The gankers haven't been forced to change mode, they haven't lost their money, and they haven't been defamed.

The biggest victim really is piracy as part of the non-ganky PvPers, but that would be less of an issue if FD could enforce their own rules.

PvP can be fun even if you are not winning. It's rare, but sometimes the fights are just a lot of fun. It would be for everybody a lot more fun if everybody would PvP for the fun of the fight and not just to win. Never going to happen, but it would be nice. ;)

For the fun rather than for the win? I would be ecstatic if we could just get to 'not to spoil others' fun' (aka salt farming)

R.I.P. piracy. Theoretically great fun, but as-is ... derp. I don't know about mode changing - IMO no one's "forced" to go anywhere (not counting the seal-clubbed newbs the pvp folks are so proud of ganking).

The alternative is ofcourse to find someone you know and do friendly duels with to practice. You won't need G5 rolls for that, and you will get better. Then you can take your time upgrading a little here and a little there, and you get better while you're doing it. Eventually you'll have skills and a good PvP-fitted ship.

Picking up on that - if you're happy with UK or Central Europe time, there's a group of relaxed players meeting up every Wednesday for friendly duels and general messing around, the Fighter Club. Current order of business is wing fights against Thargoids, if we get up enough players (sorry guys, was late and too tired yesterday evening to jump into the game...), otherwise perhaps troll the security around that not-so-secret AEGIS base.

… But of course the good news is that in the game, between a rising conflict between gankers and hysterical anti-PvPers, the gankers win :)

Don't think so, but it depends on what you consider "win".
If "win" is having free reign over Open Mode, then probably yes.
The obvious problem is, that gankers need non-gankers in Open Mode. Anit-PvP players don't need antagonistic players and therefore they can play in private or solo. For the hardcore "anti-PvP"ers it would be a "win" if Open Mode is reduced to a playground where only gankers fly around searching for non-gankers.

The game could in theory offer lots of fun with PvP, but as long as the PvP community is dominated by minmax fanatics it wont be. I often check the vids they post and its always just an incredibly, incredibly mindnumbingly boring thing with two ships lobbing stuff at each other for 20 minutes or endless attempts at ramming, with the fight only actually ending in a kill if both sides agree to not just fly away when things get iffy. ED doesnt lend itself as an 'esports' game, which is the mentality PvP players bring. A shame, really.

Hi, I was one of those cmdrs (lets call me Y!)and I can only apologise for what happened but it was instancing issues, we had been having weird problems all night. At one point I had submitted to an interdiction from a griefer and started to engage him, then X dropped in, he could see me fine, he could see me flying defensively, shooting and my shields taking hit but could not see the other ship at all.

X even popped back in to the AD Discord channel to let you know that none of it was intentional and that he was killed by the other guy just after you left, I didn't even see you had dropped in to the instance in question at all!

So yeah very sorry about it all, you weren't set up and we both feel bad that you feel that way.

If you aren't already on the AD Slack channel, you can go to https://www.reddit.com/r/AislingDuval/ and follow the instructions on there to join, it is were most of us in Cubeo tend to hang out and chat.

o7 cmdr

:(

+1for explaining what happened, sounds legit and makes sense.

The notion Open is emptying of anyone but hardcore PvPers is misguided.

At the end of the day, the simple message was that throwing self-righteous vitriol at the entire PvP crowd "becose gr1ffers!!1!" is not going to resolve any of their problems.

But that's the form PvP takes in any game. I was trying to get god rolls in Destiny before Elite and I was min/maxing in Everquest before that.

I do agree that lobbing crap at each other for 20 mins is dull, but it's not something PvPers are a fan of either. We've proposed multiple forms of reigning in OP shields, but every proposal is knocked away because it upset someone that likes being invincible.

Am also behind any calls for integrating CQC into the game. Some arenas that allow for fighter-sized combat and "bring your own ships" would go a long way.

The vitriol has to be tossed somewhere or you'll drown on it yourself, right :D ?

Sinkarma - I can vouch for these guys (not that my vouching means a lot). Though I wasn't there, they would have never done as you described in a malicious or capricious manner. It simply sounds like an instancing issue. It happens. I'm sad that it happened on your very first PVP experience, but please give those guys and PVP another chance. :)

I love PVP. I get interdicted, I face my enemy, boost FA off, logout timer. Poof gone! Works every time :D Also high wake works too if you're travelling further. Masslock is for weak. And no i'm not figthing in my delivery conda where I haul my modules in 4A shield no weapons ship. It's suicide.

Never died in PVP and never will. Pirates at least chat i try to play with them but griefers just shoot. Since there is no C&P. If real world had crime system like ED we'd all be dead.

Damn, that's gotta create some salt amongst the anti PvP crowd that it was down to bad instancing rather than evil pvpers...

Yes, but other games are balanced for minmax pvp. ED is not. The mentality doesnt fit the game, that should have become obvious now. Two multi-role mission running cobras getting into a fight could be fun in ED, a pvp cutter vs cobra is not a fight at all and two cutters duking it out is boring.

Two Cutters duking it out? Winner - the one who didn't fall asleep.

IMO tho, that's how it should be in each and every case - the last one to fall asleep is the winner. Endurance! (That is, I find combat the *least* interesting part in the game, right next to trading.)

I would conversely argue that a tiny handful of games ever achieved "balance". I bet you I could go on to the forums for Bungie/Destiny and find just as many complaints about gun balance. Hell, for a short while I was part of the discussions, though not through the forum.

What doesn't fit is how extreme the engineering is. Before engineers, there was "one build"; a heavily entrenched meta. What we have now is actually more varied, so I have to give kudos to FD for that, but with secondary effects on mods any given ship can reach disgusting stat levels.

It's not so much that ED cannot handle min/maxing as it is having vile "max" stats, and the time needed to obtain them. The odd borked special effect doesn't help either.

Open is gankers private group, if you dont like it join another PG, simple.
