Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

Well, that's sad to hear. (I've read the spoiler). However, I'd call that "cheating". Well almost.
However, it must be horrendous for a player to lose their ship in a genuine manner and then just be given a Sidewinder.
I assume you're saying the Suicidewinder would be back in the bubble.
If I was ED the replacement sidewinder would still be in Colonia. ;)
Just too bad, that's life.
It makes me uncomfortable as well.

Yes losing your ship and finding you have miss managed things so that you can't afford to buy it back again with the insurance is very sad, fortunately a side effect of how much easier earning credits is now compared to a few years ago is that this doesn't happen as much.

The Suicidewinder is the one you buy cheaply and blow up, wherever you are, then at the rebuy screen you choose the starter Sidewinder option (AKA a Freewinder) which will be in one of the old starter systems in the Bubble, you fly that to where you have your nearest stored ship.

Yes! Forgot about Insurance. Cover your craft, covers your future. Full stop. 😐

What about if your stored ship is outside the bubble ? Your SideWinder won't get you to it ..... :(

Well ..... where do start ?
Simple ....... I failed the tourist passenger mission ...... 😢

However, I am not sure why ....... 😕
Firstly, let me go through what happened on the flight and ask questions (yes more questions ..... 😏)

View attachment 266852

There were two requirements to complete the mission successfully:

1. Take a tourist to see the "Boosting Federal Fleet (BFF)".
...This turned out to be a Beacon in System Gooheimar.
...Unfortunately, I hadn't realized this before I commenced the journey.
...So when I got to Gooheimar, I didn't know what I was looking for,
...... AND that there was also a second beacon I had to find in another System.
...I eventually found BFF, opened my CONTACTS PANEL, and scanned it.
...Unfortunately, I received no obvious advice that the scanning had been a success.
...At this point I had worked out there was a SECOND Beacon to visit.
...This Beacon being in another System.
...It was the 'Visiting Beacon (VB)' in the 'LHS 2265 System').

2. Taking the tourist to the "VB" in LHS 2265.
...I commenced my journey to the LHS 2265 System.
...However, because of the lateness of the hour (that's my 'hour', it was 1.45 am in the morning),
......I decided to dock my craft at a Station, the 'Laplace Ring' in the 'Balante' System.
...During traveling to the Laplace Ring I got interdicted, but managed to escape, docked, and logged off.
...I returned 3 hours later (that's 3 hours of my time) logged on and recommenced the journey to LHS 2265.
...Having arrived at LHS 2265, I quickly located the VB, flew to it, and attempted to scan it.
...Only to be told I had failed the mission.
...Currently, I'm holed up at the 'Abe Reserve (AR)' Station in the LHS 2265 System.

Question 1: Is it obvious as to why I failed the mission ?
....................If so, what is the reason ?
Question 2: Where is my tourist?
....................Did I leave him behind at the Laplace Ring Station ?
....................Is he still aboard my ship and with me now ?
Question 3: Did I scan BFF correctly ?
If not, what did I do wrong ?
...................And, why was it not confirmed that I had (or hadn't) done so ?

That'll do for the moment.
Thank you.
I know I will be criticized for this (I said I wouldn't post my consolidated summary ...... well ....... I've changed my mind). So be it. ;)

I need to get back and finish questions (and answers) regarding my personal passenger courier experiences.
With the answers, and of course with the risk of poor, subjective interpretation, I've consolidate what has been submitted.
Where possible, I've broaden my consolidations to include any passenger mission, rather than focus on my own single, failed mission.
Ok ......

Question 1: Is it obvious as to why I failed the mission ?

It appears there are three possible reasons.

....a. Because I ignored the prevention of being scanned,
........particularly when I was interdicted, when my passenger arrested, and possibly removed from my ship, I failed the mission.

........You must prevent being scanned. (There are numerous sites to go to, to show you how to do this).

....b. Because I stopped off for fuel at a number of stations, my maybe unhappy passenger, just got off.
........I even stayed at one station for 3 hours.

........You need to be in and out as quickly as you can. Be wary about being scanned, and ideally don't stop off at all !

....c. I might have not completed the mission under the prescribed time.

........This 'time limit' is available prior to starting the mission.
........There is ample time, it's not a race, unlike some other galactic sims I've tried. ?
........Just don't waste it

Question 2: Where is my tourist?

....a. Did I leave him behind at the Laplace Ring Station ?
............See my answer to Question 1 b. above.

....b. Is he still aboard my ship and with me now ?
............You can check this from within the cockpit by going to the System Panel on the right-hand side (press key <4> if you are still in a default setting),
............click INVENTORY and then click the SUITCASE.
............This will show if anyone is in the Cabins.

Question 3: Did I scan BFF correctly ?
...................Still yet to answer this.

...................And, why was it not confirmed that I had (or hadn't) done so ?
...................Still yet to answer this.

Question 4:Some missions must be exceptionally long. Maybe taking hours to complete.
...................How do you take a rest, get some sleep and complete the mission ?
...................I had a 3 hour break. Did this maybe help me to fail ?

...................You build “rests” into the mission, but of course, at a risk, the risk depending on the type of mission, including the type of passenger.

Question 5: On the journey back home to Khaka, I cover a 137.8LY. But only used 34 'whatever' of fuel. Maybe just 5% at the most.
....................I was "kissing" stars with my fuel scoop. Could that have been doing it ?

....................Yes, exactly. It was by “accident” but it worked.

Question 6: On my journey, I sometimes came across a "blue and white swirling" thing. What were they ?

...................I understand they are white dwarf stars.

Question 7: Some of the stars were "red" and I initially thought were extinct. But they are still hot if you got too close to them. What were they ?

...................I was provided with a response this, but I can't find it. Maybe somebody could help ? Thank you.

Well, I know I will have made mistake in the above, but l look forward, and expect input regarding this from others.
But please do it kindly to me.
It's not nice being told, "that's rubbish" or even just, "No, your wrong !", particularly when it's directed right at the author. It can be so hurtful.
Writing posts at this thread has helped me understand how sports stars feel when being questioned at press conferences ......
Anyway ...... thank you. (y)

The picture a few posts up with the Metallic Blue Anaconda 'Silver Dragon' in the foreground is a picture of Quain's world, so you can see the water for yourself 😀
Did you ever fly low enough to have a look ? I'm not questioning what you're saying, but it would be nice to see how ED engineered the water ...... white caps maybe ...... surf at the ocean beaches ....... ;)

You can't get that close to that type of world, there is an exclusion zone that prevents it.

He's mistaken, it's just an omission from the Galaxy Map. The codex and FSS still call them Earth Like. I checked :)
Oh! that's good.
And I have to comment on the fact that you said "He's mistaken ..... " rather than "He's wrong ! ".
However, I understand, I know I'm am over-sensitive to this issue.
Maybe it's my age ....... ;)

Haha, well he wasn't wrong, the words Earth Like World are actually missing from the Odyssey Galaxy Map.

But it's pretty clearly an omission once you compare the 2. It should say Earth Like World in the Odyssey panel, and it doesn't. The rest of the text between the 2 versions of the game is the same, including the words Outdoor World.

As I said previously, that's good.

Do you use Inara Wombat? I think it's the single most useful tool I have for Elite. Many of the commanders you interact with on the forum are also on Inara. And while some or all of their info can be made private, most are not and you can see their details. Their fleet, their ranks, their credits, what they've been up to. For some you can view their screenshot and journal entries. If you are not currently using this I can only recommend it.

Yes I do have it. And ..... I don't use it often enough.

Just to show you I do go there, here's my contribution: ;)
Here's the makeup of my Hauler:

Well, there were too many Systems (for me) in the 30LY MySphere sphere. I got to 17 and still going. 😲
So I reduced the sphere size to 20LY (10LY Radius).
Now that is almost too few. Just 4 (Systems). However; that's better, (again for me). There'll be plenty to explore, and it will really feel like "home". ;)
EDIT: Just realised I do have 5 Systems to explore. I was forgetting my Home Base, LHS 2265. (y)
View attachment 267659
I'm going to start exploring at the furthest away System: LTT 3686
I probably should start at my home system, LHS 2265, but for some reason (and I don't know why) I don't what to. :p
So here goes .........

Planet number 4 in the Qiedea IZ-D d13-36 system a few thousand light years west of the bubble was my first first discoverer Earth like world. I think of it as Quain's World. The system is unremarkable other than the ELW. Nothing in the system is landable. I found it on my way out to Base Camp station and the Formadine Rift when I was doing my travel 5,000 light years from start position challenge to access the engineer Professor Palin.
This picture was taken on a return visit trying out the Anaconda for exploration.

I have first discovered 4 others since, all nearer the centre of the galaxy, and one high above the galactic plane near Tiller's Grove.

Earth Like World's are not landabe unfortunately. That means they have an exclusion zone so you emergency drop out of supercruise before you get close enough to see more detail than in the picture. A world has to have water to be classified as Earth like.

Sometimes when booting up ED, when I click CONTINUE, it jumps me straight into my cockpit,
and doesn't give me a chance to select the MODE (ie. OPEN, SOLO, TRAINING, etc) I wish to play in.
Is there any way I can check which default MODE it has jumped me into ? Thanks.

That is a screen shot from Coriolis.
You don't seem to have auto update turned on for inara.cz so I can't look in and see how your credit balance is going for your next ship 😉
