Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

This is where I've got confused.
You hit your 75% key at 10 sec out so as to achieve 75% throttle setting.
So when do you hit your <J> key to drop out of Supercruise?
Thanks.
PS. This is where my memory just lets me down again. I could do this backwards 2 years ago ..... :(
A message pops up on the HUD screen at the right time to hit the J key. It is always at 1Mn (or is it 1Nm??) out from your destination.

Well, I've just tried my method of safely dropping out of Supercruise to the point I deleted any reference to MY method I could. It's CRAP !
No, no don't offer me help, but thank you anyway.
I've got to go to the Manual read up everything to do with this "thing" :

So no advice because I won't read it ....... 😜
I need to read up about it first of all ! (y)
The manual's useless. It doesn't even tell you what all the components are.
What's the 686c referring to?
What's the 31% referring to?
The blue speed scale seems to rotate from a 4 o'clock position to an almost 2 o'clock position when in Supercruise. Why's this ?
There seem to be 2 different speed scales: one out of supercruise the other in Supercruise. Is this right ?

Thanks from very frustrated Wombat .......

Overthinking will get you nowhere in this game

686c means 686 times the speed of light
31% is your heat level
The blue area does move, according to external conditions, it's not something to worry about. In normal space the blue area indicates where your ship is most maneuverable. Mostly I don't care and barely look at it.

In any case, you need to know none of this to fly your ship.

Feel free to get caught up in minutia, though. It's entertaining at least :)

You wait until the blue "Safe to Disengage" message comes up. It says right on it to press the J key. The distance at which this happens varies according to the object and its orbit. Don't worry about that, just hit J when it says to do so.

Lucky you. I'm just frustrated by a lack of understanding to what should be simple procedures, but made so difficult by a poorly written manual and beginner's guide, together with badly presented video clips. But maybe it's my age and/or my previously gained, professional presentation experience. So frustrated I'm close to pulling out ....

PS the Manual was never good, and it's way outdated now. They haven't changed it in years, literally. There's no point it getting frustrated over its failings, is there?

You should just be in-game, doing stuff, figuring it out yourself instead of going crazy over poor manual writing. That road leads nowhere, if you ask me.

The fun part is flying your ship, not reading manuals (or forum posts!)

So this could be at 7 seconds. ie. 3 seconds after you've dropped to a 75% throttle setting.

Without what I get here I'd be stuffed.

Why should one have to, as you say "You should just be in-game, doing stuff, figuring it out yourself" with things like the "686c" figure? Sorry, but there's a limit to searching for answers while sitting in the 'pit.

Thanks. Are you hitting your <J> key at 7 sec or your 75% full throttle setting at 7 sec or both?
EDIT: Sorry its your 75% throttle setting at 7 sec as you've said numerous times before.
Must give you very little time to be ready to hit your <J> key?

Ok, have it your way, then. Sit in the pit and ask your questions. I've already answered the 686c one.

As for the question above this post, hit 75% throttle at 7 seconds. WAIT until the disengage message pops up (hit J, it says on it). Hit J then. It will not be simultaneous with hitting 75%. It will come later. The ETA will not decrease much during this time. It will never get to zero (or even 3). This is because you are decelerating and also decreasing your distance to the station at the same time. Just hit J when it says to do so. That's all.

Hitting the J key comes sometime after the throttle to 75% point when you first get to 7 seconds out. Once you have reduced throttle to 75% ignore time to go and watch the distance to go counter instead. At 1Mn the message pops up telling you to hit J key. How long it takes to get to 1Mn depends on what is around you. If you are close to a big planet progress to the 1Mn point is slower than in open space.

A reminder of what has been said before - ED is a great game but it demands patience from the player to get to grips with it all and sort out key bindings etc. as you go along.
I've never used the manuals/handbook.

As Codger said, that number is your speed. It increases as you speed up and decreases as you slow down so kinda obvious.

And yes there are 2 speed indicators. In Supercruise it is mainly C, light speed.
In normal cruising speed it is meters per second.

Thanks. Are you hitting your <J> key at 7 sec or your 75% full throttle setting at 7 sec or both?

Don't over think things. Test this for yourself.
For now, forget the 7 second thing.

Just approach a station (or whatever) and slow right down once you are about 15 seconds away. Then just speed up a bit (you will have to judge your speed) and take your time.

Eventually, at about 1Mm (1 million meters) you will see the blue message pop up to disengage supercruise. It's that easy. Just experiment and see what works best for you.
Also on your left hand side (don't have an image) there are 2 indicators.... one shows the distance to your target, the other is your speed.
Once both of these are in the blue area, that is when you press j to disengage supercruise.
