I'm pretty sure it will look better.
Disappointed by the Steam delay, Epic in play again?
Strike a light .... If you don't like epic just buy from R* direct.

I do get why people don't like epic paying for exclusives but at the same time gamers insistence on getting games off steam and forcing Devs to pay the extra 30% valve tax proves what Tim Sweeney said. Steam is such an entrenched monopoly in so many gamers psyche that exclusives are the only way to compete.

For me the fair way to do it would be for the game to be the same price on all stores and then the store fee is added on top at point of sale.

If you want to buy the game it could be £35 for base game from R*

On epic it would be £35+12%
On steam £35+30%

I am sure if this happened however R* would get it in the neck for charging more on steam even tho it would be valve service people are paying for.

To be fair steam is a LOT more than just a way to buy games and play them, it's got a lot of useful integrated stuff. The other's are really just "stores and launchers".

Sure, R* does not require the marketing from Steam, nor the bells and whistles like means for dev comms and fast servers. So consider it as a small dev/indie game tax.
Given I cannot import RDR2 into Steam because of the unnecessary R* launcher, it means I cannot launch it via Steam Link so easily - this is the main reason. Could I launch it directly from Steam, I'd buy it from R* directly. This is a protest against more launchers.

Otherwise, this game will be drop-dead gorgeous, can't wait!

This is a protest against more launchers.
well as the consumer that is your right.
but that attitude is just giving valve the win for the monopoly of pc gaming which i just cant support.

now.... IF you were championing all games should be able to run independantly of where you buy the game from, I could support that, but imo what you are saying is not that you protest against launchers, but that you are saying all games should be on the steam launcher.

Last i looked if i buy a game on steam i cant then choose to run it after uninstalling steam.

Anyone who chooses to only buy DRM free however I dof my cap. that is a huge saccrifice you are making however to do that.

Only if you bought a game that intentionally uses Steam for DRM or other features (such as Steamworks for multiplayer). Anything else you can move the game out of the SteamApps folder and run without Steam running, and obviously after removing Steam from your system. Witcher 3 is like that for example. It is the dev/publisher decision to DRM the game or tie it to the platform because it happens to be more than a launcher and offer valuable features. It's not Valve blackmailing them.

Now, in case you do intend to uninstall Steam from your system, just make sure you move all the games you want to keep from the SteamApps folder, as the uninstall process will wipe that as part of the requested cleanup.

Mostly you can, I activated Elite Horizons that I preordered at FDev, and to my best knowledge that's a thing. The issue I have is that if I buy it directly from R*, I cannot do this as I can't get rid of the R* launcher.

My issue is that:
  • I like Steam, how I have my games organized in one place, the fast servers, etc.
  • Having games within Steam is very convenient when using Steam Link

BTW I think R* will recover the loss by having steady exposure of their game on Steam, GTAV was top selling for very long time and I guess it has a lot to do with Steam sales. Also, perhaps I'm wrong, but I think I read somewhere major devs forego less than 30%?

I must admit I never knew that I thought all games on steam were tied to steam. Thanks for the info.

A lot of them are, in fairness, whether for actually useful features or because the studio still suffers from piracyphobia. Not sure how complete it is, but some people apparently try to maintain a list, so if you want to make sure something will work outside of the client before picking it up, you might want to look here:
https://steam.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_DRM-free_games

Just as an aside, R* released RDR2 for pre-load via their launcher as of tonight...109Gb...which isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Modern Warfare was 165Gb

I wonder when the Steam announcement comes with their release date. I guess around the initial release of the game.
R* announced the Steam release as December in the initial PC release announcement...I suppose Steam will get around to it at some point.

"New graphical and technical enhancements for deeper immersion include increased draw distances for better navigation; higher quality global illumination and ambient occlusion for improved day and night lighting; higher quality snow trails, improved reflections and deeper, higher resolution shadows at all distances; tessellated tree textures and improved grass and fur textures for added realism in every plant and animal."
