Given the release of an update on the 23rd, I strongly suspect it has something to do with that.

As the OP I am happy to report that my LEP account now loads a blue launcher - all is right with the Milky Way as Horizons is back.

Still receiving error message "Exception initializing application"
Steam version here.

try to start "\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64\EliteDangerous64.exe"

and after the program closed, try "\steamapps\common\Elite Dangerous\EDLaunch.exe" .. it worked for me.

The Link in STEAM is still broken ...

I always wonder how people find these things.

But it worked for me untill they fix the launcher. Thank you very much.

Just saw this thread, checked Steam, noted the 0 mb download, hit "play" and got this dialog box:

Exception initializing application

String reference not set to an instance of a String.
Parameter Name: s

What?????

Edit: Ninja'd by Vizibelli - same error message.

Steam forums are ablaze with the error message:

Will piped in and said approximately 10 hours ago that it should be fixed now...

Short of disassembling my laptop and rebuilding it, I have tried everything. No luck, time to start review bombing.

Only time I've seen an error like that was in reference to some VC++ error or an incorrect system time.
