New Exploration Mechanics: What I really want to know

It should be quicker to get the same information.

This assumes you do full system scans. Now you have to fiddle with tuning just to see if something is interesting? Here's how I think it should work:

Honk shows all objects with some basic info, ie type of planets, landable or not, etc.
Tune scanner to get more info on specific planets, this will tell you minerals & such & if there are any unusual anomalies
Fire probe to get more specific info on what the anomalies are, ie, lifeforms, geysers, etc.

This seems like a more reasonable compromise of old/new systems. It still gives rewards to casual explorers and adds optional added depth to full system scanners. The new system sounds like the death toll for casual exploration. Playing an SRV scanner style minigame just to discover every single planet in the system does not sound fun.

It's been a while. I'm *mostly* satisfied with how it works. Much of it I'm very happy with. I'm absolutely *delighted* with the speed with which you can scan. The one thing that I haven't seen addressed is finding things that can only be spotted visually, such as green glowing giants.

I really wasn't sure about it until I realized I was avoiding clearing out some of my bookmarks because it would be about 90% faster to wait to scan those systems until after the update went live.

I just hope the new system will provide a lot of information about the planet after you pinged them. Something like "This water world is one of the wettest planets in this system, from the standpoint of water."

The above is some of the most important bit of info that most people dont seem to care. The extra and brand new info about planets that we wont get!
We could have a "honk" to reveal the basic system structure and bodies instantly like before, where the fss would reveal a prapload of NEW and interesting characteristics/terrain info about planets and systems and not only the same old stuff. At least thats how i would do it, in order to call it "proper" exploration update.
Sorry, but so far it looks like a simple gui redesign. <-- i said so far, so it means i hope i m wrong. We ll see about the new stuff.

A propos of not that much .... I do talk quite a bit of bollox don't I?

"This water world is one of the wettest planets in this system, from the standpoint of water."

What an .
