New for 2024!!!!!111111

This surely deserves a thread!

So great work from Frontier and hurrah for Engagement(tm)

Here's what I heard:
  • U18 - "Take the fight to the titans," plus something "you will have to figure out"
  • U19 - PowerPlay TWO POINT ZERO - "sometime in the summer" (Hi @Rubbernuke ... you look pale. Do you need a cup of tea?)
  • in between those times - and this was specifically mentioned twice and a third mention of "interim" - we get tweaks and fixes - so I think we really are getting regular tweaks and fixes.
  • "After" - "brand new feature" - THIS YEAR - but noooooooo clues.
  • And NEW SHIPS - showed a render of Python II (we already have threads on those) - "one of at least four, across the year"

Awesome. Sounded real to me - and after 29 years of software engineering and release management, my spidey sense on these things is pretty good.

It all looks great. But seriously - if someone not from Elite community watches those streams they must be really surprised about how actually ZERO information is given to the players about the whole year worth of content. Compare it to how for example ESO does this things: devs give clear overview of features being implemented in the next 12 months, even showing lots of gameplay. Think about this: bunch of grown ups cheering hurray because they saw new texture of a ship? For the players its normal, but for someone from outside? 0% chance to get new players interested

It's going to be interesting to see all the things that are coming, but I must say the... "terminal" way Arf talks about the Thargoid situation, for update 18, elicits in me an immense sensation of anticlimax. :p

Was the Powerplay rework described as the feature overhaul that they have been investigating. I'm guessing it is, I'm just wondering if they've finally put that one to bed.

Never looked at it this way but now that you say it, it makes total sense.

hmmmm maybe the thargoids are going to get upgraded weapons and new ships too for their up coming assault on the 3 capitals......

Bill

"Lets hope the plans work out..... keep buying those ARX folks"

But with PowerPlay 2.0 in U19 it does sound like some of humanity will survive.

Can't say the sense it gave me involved humanity being threatened. :7

I guess if the Titans just pull up their tentpoles and unceremoneously trundle off, I guess the Thargoid mystery remains, and they stay a menacing unspeaking presence in the dark, but... I don't know -- I have only watched the war from the sidelines personally, and done some argueably "peaceful" bits, so I do realise my insight into all the efforts is very limited; And given the means, the players who do involve themselves have beaten back the front, for sure; But... it still doesn't feel "earned"... From a storytelling perspective... Does that make sense?
If this is the end of the main plot arc, I think it would feel very sudden, after things have been drawn out for so long, and so little has been revealed.

Much of that comes inherently with the MMO nature of the game, of course, and I am the sort who typically play games to experience the story, which has never been what Elite is...

Personally if the Thargoids depart and become an almost unseen presence again as they were a few years ago with us in the main clueless about what they were up to and why I would be very happy as I am not fond of aliens that act much like humans only with more limbs.
Though if their departure could be after I get back to the bubble and can visit an inactive spire site that would be nice.

I’m hoping they become a “faction” in the new Power Play. Keeps all the hard earned AX stuff relevant and/or allows folks to work with the Thargoids if they so choose?

Could be the Titans depart because they’ve finished terraforming or building bases or whatever in order to have a permanent “ownership” of their initial PP systems.

Not disagreeing. Mystery "preserved" would be more the word I was looking for, than the one I put there...

I made similar thoughts. Too much content has been created, can't see it be left to whither away...

  • U19 - PowerPlay TWO POINT ZERO - "sometime in the summer" (Hi @Rubbernuke ... you look pale. Do you need a cup of tea?)

Powerplay 2.0 should have more territory control by player guilds and that they can construct and manage stations, planetary bases.

The brand new feature, I hope ship interiors cause a lot of people want it and it can be monetized well by Frontier. So it's a win-win. Also VR support for Odyssey.

That's not been confirmed... yes/no is very subjective (from FDEVs point of view) anyway.

So 🤷‍♂️
