ANNOUNCEMENT New Lead Community Manager - Arthur Tolmie

This is where we differ, I don't think offering it to PS4 players would break any promise. The exclusivity was for players who bought Horizons within its first year. Giving that to PS4 players who bought within that version's first year, is still in-keeping with that exclusivity, as far as I'm concerned.

As I mentioned, there's no cross platform play. It harms no one to let the PS4 players have it under similar conditions as the PC and Xbox players.

If ALL PS4 players had it, then sure, that would be problematic.
The “buying it in its first year” exclusivity thing is a retcon anyway. The original announcement was anyone who owned both Horizons+BaseGame, at any point in time, ever, would have the Cobra IV.

This was back when Horizons was a standalone product instead of a DLC expansion, meaning most new players would ONLY have to buy Horizons in order to play. Relatively shortly after launch, Horizons was changed to a DLC “add on” which required you to own both products in order to play it. That’s when they changed the rules for Cobra IV to be time-sensetive, since now EVERYONE was going to have to buy both packages anyway, which made the old promotion kind of pointless.

Anyway point being Frontier’s hands aren’t tied on this by some kind of ironclad oath; they have plenty of wiggle room to release the Cobra IV to any Horizons owner under any circumstances and nobody would actually have solid basis to object. Which isn’t to say that people wouldn’t throw a tantrum over it anyway.

Hey sorry for the delay in coming back on this one, took me a while to ask the right people as this was before my time here.

The Cobra MK IV was an excluve reward to PC and XBOX players that upgraded to Horizons within a year (I believe) and will not be coming to PS4.

I know this is not the answer you hoped for, I am sorry about that but I would rather tell you how it is rather than give you any false hope.

-Arf

Thank you Arthur for formally commiting to an answer.
After three years of campaigning for equality on the playstation, without a comment from Frontier, I thought that it was the case but had hoped that with each update that it would be provided for all.

thank you

Even that retcon has been retconn’d.

if you want to go through the various posts and communications from the time.
  • The Cobra MkIV was first provided as an exclusive ON PC for anyone who pre-ordered Horizons before it’s released. December 2015
  • The offer was then extended to March 2016 (on PC) to pickup additional sales.
  • Horizons was released on Xbox in June 2016 (three months later)
  • Xbox commanders complained and the offer was re-instated on Xbox to appease them.

it wasn’t a continuous offer.

when the possibility for PS4 cobra mkIV was raised in Dec 2016, the comment was ‘surprised it took you so long to ask :)

- PS4 got a sidewinder paint job If someone bought Horizons when it launched In June 2017.

Thanks for chasing up an answer. Disappointing, but something definitive at least.
It would still be nice to know the reasoning behind the decision, why it could not be extended to the PS4: be that legal, executive decision, "keeping your word" etc.

Going forwards i'd like to suggest Frontier consider all platforms (and potentially differing launch dates) when they make limited content, and work out the wording and legalities beforhand, to not bind yourselves unnecessarily.

Give them the damned ship - with stings attached, such as:
  • ordered it within a handful of months of release on PS4
  • preordered it on PS4
  • or first XYZ purchases on PS...

is it just me or does FDEV go through Community managers like a bic lighters.
Higher frequency disposability than that is required for an acurate, I've had big lighters that outlasted multiple CM's.

No - you can't, No Powerplattitudes. now off...

@Arthur Tolmie - Arf seeing as I've fenced one enquiry for you - look at the blue orange flashy avatar
look at it again but this time count to ten thousand while focussed on it:

Blue / Orange Flashy Avatar

Now, repeat after me:
Odyssey needs VR...

Say it again:
Odyssey needs VR...

So... Any update on Odyssey VR?

Ignore the silly face goggle man. There are real issues at stake.

We are aware, the team are putting together a post as I type this - there will be information today.

Unfortunately.. Stephen didn't really answer much.

1) He avoided talking about the abrasion blaster bug
2) He sidestepped the fact that "LTD hotspots" is now an oxymoron.
3) While acknowledging that rarity of Tritium wasn't intended, he gave out no timeline as to when that would get fixed, or how Frontier was going to address it. (They really should roll back this disastrous patch, IMO)

Oh,.. and welcome aboard.. nothing like getting dumped right into the middle of the action..
