Something space based worked be the obvious route.

Aren't the rights to star wars with Lucasarts/disney I.e. The base holder who could franchise it out to whoever they liked. That being said the fees might be more EA and Activision than FD. I do think.FD could male a fantastic Starwars space shooter (which we haven't had for ages, we have RPG in KOTOR and FPS in battlefront but an out and out space shooter like the original vector SW game or Tie Fighter etc hasn't been along for a while.

Alien doesn't feel like the right fit, being more close in FPS/Survival

DUNE would seem more RPG although some sort of exploration game in the SRV mold might work. The lore of Dune is wrong for the space flight, its big "highliners" controlled by mutant spice addicted Guild navigators.

Similarly Star Trek.is more big capital ship combat, strategy, rpg and FPS.

Looking forward to it though

Is it Wing Commander? ;) :p

Seriously though, its probably something Disney or sci-fi related.... so Star Wars? ;)

My monies on Jurassic park.

The man himself mentioned dinosaur big game hunting a while ago, and they know theme parks games backwards.

It can't be "Hitchhiker's Guide" because a single movie can't be described as a franchise <sigh>

My guess would be Wallace & Grommet, or failing that, Star Trek

Let's go professional and ... BLANKET BOMB!

Let's give a look here... there's so MANY franchise out there!
But as someone else said, it has to be something completely unrelated to space, spaceships and Sandbox Exploration. You don't shoot your own foot if you're winning a race...

I'm looking at James Bond, Lord of the Rings, Mission: Impossible (the format itself of the title is perfect... Elite: dangerous, Mission: Impossible), Terminator... Fast & Furious?
Or even (but that's Wildest fantasy dreams) Superman, Matrix or... DUN DUN DUNNNN DIE HARD!

Gosh I DO ache for a proper PROPER game about Terminator, DIe Hard or Matrix.

i guess...

could it be 'alien' ?

the new alien movie from the director Neill Blomkamp, upcoming next year ?

That movie ain't happening for at least 5-6 years, if at all i'm afraid .. Ridley Scott Has Alien: covenant Coming out this year and plans a third film linking up to the first Alien .. until he's done that nobody else is making an Alien film.

When it says licenced does that mean cash was paid was the rights?

A warning from history

I doubt EA would share their hold on the Star Wars franchise...which is sad, because I doubt they'd ever make a new TIE Fighter game.

Star Trek, maybe...I couldn't find a solitary holder of creative rights for video games and there is a long list of different publishers.

Honestly, I don't think they will be in sci-fi, at least not in the space plane sci-fi arena. No need to cannibalize players of ED.

All we know is what Cobra has so far delivered in its current state. I have no basis in a guess, but I'm going to say it will be along the lines of Pirates of the Caribbean or something otherwise approachable to a broad audience. I'd thought John Wick, but someone is already making a VR game for it. Transformers is possible, but sure hope it isn't...that seems like a franchise just begging for ridiculous scope. Maybe a LOTR game, but that feels really done by now. Harry Potter I think is another real possibility. A few more thoughts...Bourne series, Hunger Games, and Die Hard.
