General / Off-Topic New movie based FD game in development... guess the franchise!

Indiana Jones , or perhaps a survival game based on Terminator lore;

By expertise , I think they are speaking of legs and 3rd person or FPS.

Seems they already hired some FPS developpers in FD . so...

With a new Bourne movie supposedly coming out this year, I would have to guess they will have already been working on the game for quite some time, if it is the Outsider brought out of the mothbag.

Also one of those things where people tend to speculate on things spilling over to Elite (Planet Coaster: Crowd flock/flow mechanics, the Outsider: Procgen cities).

I'm sure FD will love this thread for entertainment value.

I just hope that the % of ED revenue FD takes for new franchises decreases as income from the other efforts comes in and they can plow a bit more back into ED.

Star Wars and Star Trek are non-starters and direct competition to ED space, and I've personally had enough of Star Wars.

Bond has a 50 year history and Bourne has been enduring but not as long. FD has 6 years of work on The Outsider they might be able to resurrect with a secret agent.

Jurassic Park kind of fits both enduring appeal and FD background with animal sims and park sims.

Horror movies don't seem a fit. Neither do Harry Potter or LotR (which seems quite developed already).

Surely something not currently licensed and/or with small gaming footprint.

It's Smurfs.

The Smurfs?

In all honesty a Smurfs MMORPG could be one frack of an interesting, silly, but incredibly fun game. Just throw all cares out the window and make it stupid silly but with fun mechanics and an extreme emphasis on being as goofy and crazy as you can be.

It won't be Smurfs though. It might be Carebears....

There is only few Hollywood studios.

Columbia Pictures,
20th Century Fox,
Warner Bros.,
Paramount Pictures,
Universal Studios,
Walt Disney Company

And only few of them have a franchise that is still alive today.

It is Star Track from Paramount Pictures.

And "Alien" from 20Th Century Fox.

Both of them are ideal for FD expertise.

Both of them are "enduring movie franchise of global renown"

That is it. Star Track or Alien. There is no more variations.

Shhhh.. I know its most likely not true.. but I am hoping if I say it enough times it might come true..

Can you imagine ED's flight dynamics coupled with xwings, bwings, tie fighters, shuttles, star destroyers, slave 1.. (insert homer dribble here)

Star Wars have nothing to do with Hollywood studios.

It is Star Track or Alien. only 2 variations.

It is a new franchise. It is not a "enduring movie franchise of global renown"

Key word here is "enduring".

You can call enduring franchise only Alien and Star Track. Both of them are litteraly survived nowdays.

So, I hate to say this, but is anyone else a bit concerned that whatever this new franchise is, it might siphon development off of Elite? I mean we are behind schedule already, can Elite really afford to lose more ground?

I doubt very much that Frontier will be hiring an entirely new staff for whatever this new game is, so it is very likely that staff will be pulled from Elite and Planet Coaster to work on the new game. I have to say that I'm a bit concerned...

First they will finish 2.4 and PS4 release. After that Elite will have only the most hardest things to implement. And it will not be like before (3-4 mounths per update). I don't even think it will be for one year. I am pretty sure that the next part of Elite development will cost to us about 1,3 year. Game is already close to the point of HARD development (just look at the Star Citizen progress). Not even full team can make this time less. So basicly 2.4 is a complete game. We will not see anything new for about year. Only rebalance at best.

What i am trying to say is.. it will be more than 1 year development. There is no point to stick on this. It is better for FD to also focus on something different. Also they need some expirience to make FPS in ED playeble.
