New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

Well I was planning to make this topic, but the cat is out of the bag, so let's get on with it. I present to you the compilation of totally not similar planet at all.

Notice how similar they are ? The color is the only difference, basically. I took specifically those with that obvious crater impact because it's easier to see but you get the issue. You have about 4 different pattern in space. The crater one, the canyon one, the non crater one, and the ice one.

There is something WRONG with the LOD and the way planet look in space. On the ground (and I mean, landed, not above), it's showing properly, but not as soon as you start to go away.
It needs to be fixed.

Well then. It seems like I wasn't going insane with my planet tech threads. Things do repeat, and tbh it makes it worse when normally blue, red, orange, etc planets are just a shade of grey now in Odyssey. I still don't understand how people are enjoying this, as even the sides of mountains and ridges are stretched out like a Ps2 game.

Oh yeah and even I, who posted a bunch about the faulty tech agree that we shouldn't bombard people on their personal accounts for their work. Jesus Christ people.

And lastly. Dr Ross and the team. While you guys fix up the new tech, is there a way we can have the old tech back somehow? but WITH the atmospheres. You guys did a fantastic job with the spheres and I think it would do it more justice to be used on the old tech somehow. I'm not sure how it would work but that would be the best balance.

That post/thread is about the planetary shape, not the surface details which this thread is about 🤦‍♂️

Seriously - RIP ED - it's confirm to be a feature :

They are all yogurt grey, sure the patterns don't repeat all the time, but the repetition of the famous beige color isn't realistic if you look at moons of Jupiter for instance. Too much beige imma go insane 0;0

Indeed, and Kay is also perfectly entitled to block such rude individuals :ROFLMAO:
I never denied her right to block anyone, and I don't consider myself rude for asking a shareholder of a project a question about the project.

Anyway, this convo detracts entirely from the sentiment of the OP and the topic itself.

Color changes, but the overall aspect is just the same. Like the arx colors for spaceship !

Read the response of people there - this is the mirror image thread of this one...where people praise the new "tech".

Community manager said "Glad you like it"... because it's here to stay

Wow, so totally different planets in EDO use the exact same surface tiles over and over? No more true proc gen planets, but surfaces assembled with hand made tiles like Lego sets?

That is a HUGE step backwards for EDO explorers if true.

Or the proc gen is bugged. Or the space planet textures is bugged. No way to know until a dev tells us.

Yep: messaging individuals on their personal accounts, instead of reporting via official company channels, is rude and naturally results in being blocked (y)
Agreed, I'm as annoyed by this as anyone (Explorer) but you don't go harassing folks on their personal space.

For the record I'm willing to listen. If the justification for this is that for the game to move forward they had to adjust the tech this way, then I won't be fine with it, but I'll understand. I've always loved the procgen approach to Elite in all its iterations and want to give them a chance to explain this choice. I don't think they set out to annoy everyone.

LMAO

I love how they only comment on the compliments!

A bit earlier today i was going to make a ticket about some of the camera views in my Adder mysteriously facing the wall instead of outwards where they should be, but considering the huge issues Odyssey currently has, it would be the equivalent of that scene in the Sopranos, where Tony is clinching a vital deal with the Italian mob, and Paulie Walnuts interrupts him to confide that he is in desperate need of 'taking a wicked sh*t'. It's neither the time nor the place. I think i'm done for now, if planets ever become unique again i'll be back.
