New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

Sarcasm ON, yeah PURE GARBAGE from altitude, like this:

It look bad ? Are you sure it's sarcasm ?I can even see the copy pasted pattern. While seeing them is indeed some brain work, howevr the brain will instantly notice "something's off and repetitive". Which led me to look for them.
Well I do not see those "copy paste" patterns. Especially I do not see those while controlling the ship and deciding where to land. But yeah of course if we put it all beige and just some random noise craters that would be better?

Random noise craters would indeed be better than pre-generated noise copy pasted everywhere.

Anyway, there you go. I don't say the exact pattern is easy to spot "at a glance" you need to focus a bit for that. But the issue is our brain evolved to see pattern. So, your brain can immediately say "hey something's off and repetitive". Which is an issue.

But I thank you for this screenshot and your input. It proves that different people see different things. Those patterns, you don't seem to be bothered by them. As some others posters.
I am, and many others to.

I agree that planets that look interesting even on 50km height are exceptions.
But they exist, so it's not a problem with LIMITATIONS of current tech,
more likely it's fed with wrong numbers/dataset.

I can't tell where the "sarcasm" is. Is this supposed to be indicative of a "good" planet or a "bad" one? I see those weirdly shadowed pockmarks on the right side of your pic all over the place. When you get to around 1.5km they look terrible. ...worse in motion.

Also, what are we doing here folks? Many people are having an issue with the new planetary tech. Why are you actively trying to keep it from getting fixed for them? Humble bragging? Just want to see the world burn?

I'd love to have overhangs and caves in ED. Height maps are boring, especially height maps generated from prefab textures.

Water would be nice, too. ED is still far away from what NMS can do in terms of terrain generation.
I don't know.
I like Odyssey's planets more when it comes to terrain and overall feeling.
Caves and overhangs. Okay. I'll gladly take those.

In NMS I am always under the impression the whole world is build from some kind of dough.
I totally like it in NMS and all, and wouldn't even compare it to Elite in any way. When it comes to generated terrain though, I really wouldn't want NMS generation in Elite.

Well perhaps because eh some people do NOT concur that old Horizons planets were better looking, or with superior tech. Me being one of them.

People need to rewatch the Discovery Scanner videos with Dr Kay. There were examples of exactly our concerns being addressed in recent builds on the alpha, notably canyons. Another unrelated thing was enemies swarming the player in FPS combat.

Again, it strongly suggests they simply had to rush out an unfinished build. All of these obvious things they clearly knew about and were working on fixing or adding.

Another thing people need to drop is criticising them for 'lying' about the state its in. Do you really think they are going to admit - as it seems rather likely - to "Well our producers forced us to release it early so that's why it's basically like a beta." You know, those producers who fund the game? All they can admit to is vague failures in priorities in development, and just apologies.
