Abandoned New Trading Tool: ETN

I created a website that provides a user interface and trading algorithm for EDDN/EDDB trade data. It takes a different approach than most existing tools by estimating trade time and maximizing profit/hour. It's called Elite Trade Net. Check it out: http://etn.io

G'day! I've used a few different trading tools to date, and I have to say that I totally LOVE yours ... probably best of all.

You're the best :D

+1

I'm having a minor issue with ETN. Basically, since a few days ago (maybe a week at most), it started giving me trade routes where the first segment is too far too reach without refueling enroute. I don't remember ever this happening. I keep my ship info updated with import from coriolis.io.

According to both ETN, and ED:Shipyard your Anaconda should be able to make it from Bielonti to Timbarichs without refueling.

Here's an ED:Shipyard Anaconda build that matches your specs:

http://www.edshipyard.com/#/L=706,7RLmpV4yHmpT5QG5QG,2-C_Ba9Y8ID8C_8I,0Bk7UI5GQ0AA08c08c08c0720725Es

With the two systems entered into ED:Shipyard's route dialog, here's the route it finds, along with the % remaining fuel after each stop:

System LY Fuel
0. Bielonti 100%
1. LHS 2541 16.89 91%
2. Dagaz 12.49 87%
3. Eta Corvi 14.08 81%
4. Clotho 13.15 76%
5. LHS 346 13.73 71%
6. Masszony 17.42 62%
7. Crucis Sector JC-V B2-3 17.12 53%
8. LHS 3378 17.61 43%
9. Llyr 16.00 36%
10. Tatapai 16.80 28%
11. Shui Wei Sector MI-S B4-1 15.39 21%
12. Timbarichs 15.02 15%
185.70 67.7T
93.2% 3.4k

With a full load of cargo, this should require 67.7 tons of fuel out of 80 tons available.
Interestingly, ETN picks a slightly different route. It also takes 12 jumps but only uses 66.5 tons of fuel.

What mode did you have the game navigation set to, fastest or most economical? If you pick fastest it may run you out of fuel. If you pick most economical you should definitely make it, but it might take more than 12 jumps. Neither is ideal. You really want the route that is fastest but economical enough that you can actually make it. This is what ETN calculates. If you hit the spacebar from ETN you can see the route it picks.

Generally trade routes only involve a few jumps and it is rare that you were run out of fuel. This long trip is an exception because you are traveling long distance.

I did notice for quite some time that when I'm deep inside the federation or alliance space and try to plot a trade route back to the empire space, the first leg is usually fairly long. After this first leg, ETN will have me hop around, not always bringing me closer to Cubeo. I'm not sure why it does that. I would think that routes would be optimized so that each leg brings me closer to my destination, specially with a fewer number of trades, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Apparently trading in empire space is more profitable. Your search results suggest that you are better off going straight to empire space and spending your time trading there rather than extending the journey by breaking it up into multiple parts. The algorithm doesn't care whether each step takes you closer to your destination, because that might not provide maximum profit/hour.

That might explain in, I always use the fastest route to my destination. If I have to pick the most economical, then that will make my trades much longer. I think I will stick with the fastest and will deal with the fuel en route.

I understand that trading is more profitable in the Empire. That makes sense.

Are the servers down today or something?

If you want another person with power to restart, or a collaborator for the site, I'm a sysadmin/JS engineer and am really interested in helping. My e-mail is gnarf at gnarf dot net / you can see my github at github.com/gnarf

Seems there is a problem. I cannot perform any search. Trying to contact the author results in the message window staying on screen, not doing anything.

EDIT: refreshing the main page results now in a 404...

Thanks, gnarf. With the holiday there has been an unusual amount of load on the server. The server is running but overloaded. Working on a solution.

I've retired as a trader (probably indefinitely) because I can finally get comparable credits doing what I love the most. But I wish this tool was available when I was trading, it's an amazing tool and looks brilliant, well done.

I tested my old route and it seems accurate from when I last checked it. Amusingly enough, it also showed me a number of alternatives in the region that would be better hah.

Good stuff.

We now have a date for Horizons. Tuesday the 15th. Will ETN be updated to include the Imperial Cutter as Horizons goes live?

Just used it - it's really good. Very nice visualization, and I love how it gives multiple routes and (can) look for multihop loops to end at.

How will it take planetary outposts into consideration? What default "time to travel" will you input for landing on planets?
Like, what is average? 4 minutes?
Because if one has 2 identical trade routes (in terms of profit and LY distance), the one involving planetary landings will be the less profitable, due to the extra time going on and off world.

Just found this - looks very nice so downloaded the EDMC and will use this once horizons goes live this week - currently messing around in Horizons. :)

That's a good question. First we'll need a way to differentiate planetary outposts, preferably in EDDB. If anyone is willing to do some experiments and determine average landing times that would be great. It would be nice to see stats across different planets and ships.

Hopefully Frontier makes these routes profitable enough to justify the extra time.
