I know how you feel, I played FE2 right up until the day I got the Alpha. Check out the shelf in the background:

There's absolutely no reason you shouldn't be upset, angry, etc. Your 'solution' to play FFE sounds like a positive way to deal with something you have no control over.
Telling us at this late stage a main feature is missing is clearly unacceptable, it's irrelevant if you were going to use it or not.
They didn't just wake up yesterday and think oh this feature is too hard lets drop it!
Its just bad service plain and simple.

Bit melodramatic aren't we. I played elite, e2 and fe and I am ok with the decision.
To be honest, working for a developer myself, I feel their reasons were quite sound. But again, you have every right to be upset about this.
Just had to chime in and say how incredibly disappointed I am with the news that the game won't have offline single player.
That was the reason I was excited for it in the first place as I don't play online only games.
Sad to say Elite Dangerous is off my to play list now unless they go back on this.

How do you suppose the refunds will be dealt out? Tokens to be spent on paint jobs from station services maybe.
I've no idea. I expect a little leniency for anyone who mentions "offline" lol

Wow. This is the only reason I decided to buy this game. Yes it has most of what I want from a space game; yes, it sounds like you can be 'mostly single player'. But if they had said upfront that there would be no way to play completely offline, I would not have bought it. Really disappointing news, and honestly I feel like I got tricked.
Have u paid for the beta? Are u playing at the moment? You don't have to play against other players you can go solo.
TBH .. That will be your loss ... Especially if you are perfectly capable of playing the game currently online. (which in Solo mode you should, even on a dodgy connection)

were did you ever see the galazy/stars/other planets/
i dont mean the bits when you jump out or are jumping in
cos you dont have time for this, you have press buttons fast to jump to the stystem
selected , so you can deliver you 110bucks worth of goods before the contract times out
at least when you came out the star gate in the previous version you had maybe 6/7/8 different stations/factorys there
you could even stay in the system trading between them

Will you be fine with it when they close down the servers in say 7 years time, effectively taking the game from you? And everyone else for that matter...
Which is the same for pretty much every PC game these days... A box is just install media, nothing more.

Which I think it justifiable, seeing as the KS-peeps can't get their money back too. I do think that Frontier advising to use the refund options over this is a bit assinine (unless they never read the terms and conditions of their own store, ofc.)
1. As soon as the download is made available, you can't return it anymore. That means that everybody here is just crap out of luck.
2. The only time you can get your money is when you paid upfront for software that has yet to be released; you can cancel your order right up to a minute before the software goes live.
Basically, without that safety-net, Frontier would only be holden to refund the beta-backers. Which would open a giganormous can of worms, I fear. It's better this way.

Are we playing the same game?. Plus it's still in beta we have not seen the full game and even when it released it will be added to. I think there is a need for people to take a step back and take a deep breath.
Offline solo mode was one of the reasons why I joined the beta. If this is really canceled I'll probably ask for a refund. When I buy something I want to make use of it when and where I want, without Internet connection problems, server issues, and I want to be sure that I can keep using it even if the software house decides to shut down everything.
