No Single Player offline Mode then?

@ BOA

If this wasn't ever intended/promised however you want to put it why were moderators - as recently as Thursday 13th November 2014, still telling newcomers it was available and a possible play mode?

Question.....

Do you really think FD have gone back on their word....and have been lying all along ?
Or maybe it really is more complex than they thought ( which in my opinion is more likely )

Would you be happy with an Oolite type offline standalone game with ED graphics ...never updated or anything ...just a game to play offline ?

I agree with your first statement but the answer to your question is yes and updates can come as expansions on DVD so never update isn't an issue

Somewhat amusingly (to me at least) this evening my internet has become rather choppy. Dropping out for 1 to 10 minutes at a time. This doesn't happen often, but it does happen and I've got pretty high end cable internet.

So glad I'm not trying to play an always online game this evening or I'd be getting jolly frustrated right about now.

After FDEV have finished work on the offline version of ED they can start work on an offline version of the forums! I'm sure over the last few years they have been running profiles on all of us and have developed an AI capable of reproducing realistic tantrums, trolling, bear baiting and pointless arguments that will appear so real you would think you conversing with actual community members and all of it without the need of an Internet connection. ;)

I really hope everyone on here takes a moment to go read this thread now: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=59655

People are worried about the future of this game with online only mode, I hope this gives them some reassurance.

(However this is the internet and I'm sure it'll just fan the flames for others)

Hm... I'd watch this graph on the next few days (and particularly after the gamma and release feature sets are revealed, and after the exclusively-online launch crashes the servers as exclusively-online launches are wont to do)...

I am still very much on the fence regarding this whole debacle as I have had high hopes and expectations for ED, but I must admit that after the revelations of the past days, my once solid confidence in FD has suffered a massive blow.
Here's why...
1 the reason for this gigantaur of a thread: Eliminating offline option
2 the exceptionally poor communications effort by FD officials ( I do not refer to the forum moderators here )
The following have just come to my attention after reading through the entirety of this thread (yes, all 285 pages)
3 ingame advertising, this is to me completely intolerable in the form mentioned several times in this thread.
4 no option for a 'private' game world/galaxy, as online solo is apparently affected by all players ("blaze your own trail..." on the heels of 100000 others ??)

now, add that to the current state of this project. (I could reiterate a list as long as a runway, but I'll spare you )

All in all, FD now has 2 gigantic tasks ahead of them, and very little time to do so:
1 find a solution to the offine issue, and clearly communicate said solution to the people paying their salaries.
2 deliver what they have promised on 16-12 at the latest, that being at the very least a 100% functional game experience.

Failure to accomplish either will have grim consequences for both game and developer.*
*note of clarification: this is meant as a warning, NOT a threat, I simply foresee the community/customer/press reactions.

It's not poor communication it's a complete spin, the newsletter wasn't upfront or apologetic in any way, in fact apparently this is a good thing. I don't think people would have minded as much if he said here's the deal: funds, resources are limited, it can't be done I'm afraid. But it's a month before release and dodging of a half the game, delivered somewhat like a politician and they don't intend on delivering what was promised and had been worked on up till now, a month before release. Or never intended to for a while and didn't make us aware of such.

Yeah,

I convict you trolls.

I think her are many SC Fanboys, who wanna make bad mood here, to distract from the fatal development of SC!!!

Will you stop, (I know, I know, I'm feeding him), people were, (rightly or wrongly), led to believe that this play mode, not 'feature', was still in game for the entirety of the development period, said game mode is then axed at the last minute, (in development terms), some people backed based on this mode, some had it as a fall back, a decent number were to receive the disks as part of their backer level, and you do not think there is an issue here, my god.

Okay, Pecisk, why weren't Frontier, you and others defending this decision informing the wider community of these risks earlier?, why weren't these apparently obvious 'risks' communicated to the community at the earliest opportunity, (and I am struggling to believe that the earliest opportunity was Friday at 15:42 UK Time).

Please Theodrid, I am not trying to defend or attack anything. I am trying to make sense. My personal POV has always been that to promise offline mode was a little bit premature and they should have said "maybe" and give regular updates if that will be possible. It has bitten FD hard. I personally don't believe in any kind of shenanigans for this. They tried it, it didn't work. It seems they tried for quite some time.

For all reasons why would FD ever come out with such information just week before premiere? It's nuts. Obviously, they didn't have choice, because announcing that during and after Premiere would be just worst of the worst.

Sure, but there must have been some reason for them to have enough certainty that the game would have an offline mode to tell people so.

I assume it was the same reason most of us assumed the same: that the game had been (falsely, albeit possibly not maliciously) advertised as having an offline mode.

Just had time to read the news letter, and not happy with the loss of the offline mode, will make a decision on whether to stay or go after I see if they make any announcement. It was the offline mode I was interested in and only pledged once they had said it was part of the project.
