No Single Player offline Mode then?

Greefing, newbie hunting, market fixing, you name it and it's possible in an MMO.

You will not see another player, how will you get griefed? how will you be hunted? you WILL NOT SEE ANOTHER PLAYER.

Market fixing? by trading? that's the way the economy works. If you got an offline mode, and it DIDN'T have a working economy you would demand a refund for that too!

David hasn't even ruled it out forever according to the newsletter....

We'll, thts just not enough. After release, there are no refunds, so he should just clearly said that they will do offline in XX time after release or they will never do offline version but will offer refunds. The end!

I will admit that I played a little bit of online to see what it was like. It took about 3 sessions to realize online was DayZ in Space and not anything I wanted to have anything to do with. All I wanted was a 2014 version of the game I played when I was 12 which did not include a bunch of ats flying around with me.

I'm a big proponent of offline mode but "DayZ in Space" sounds awesome! That should have been their kickstarter elevator pitch haha

FDEV are a UK (-and admittedly part Canadian!) firm and so UK Consumer law will apply to sale of their goods as follows;

Intangible digital content (e.g. downloads.) The Consumer Contracts Regulations 2014 contain specific provisions for digital content...

...blah, blah...

... the consumer must also acknowledge that once the download starts they will lose their right to cancel.

Refund policy to the letter of the law

Has anyone downloaded the game though? Given that it's not completed yet, I'd wager not. If that's the case, then those people should at least be refunded the cost of the game, at the time they put their money in to the pot (i.e. not the retail price). That won't cover the extra money for beta and alpha access, but I suppose that's the way the cookie crumbles.

Take it up with recently amended UK consumer law and get over yourselves wanting to have enjoyed something for nothing. FDEV are a UK (-and admittedly part Canadian!) firm and so UK Consumer law will apply to sale of their goods as follows;

Refund policy to the letter of the law, and as per news#50 graciously extending the 14day (unused) right to refund - in the circumstances - as a gesture of goodwill to the minority whittering on, moaning, and frankly boring the rest of us to tears with the plethora of essentially duplicated whinge posts that are ovewhelming the mods. I see why the BBC denied posting of comments on their report lol.

I cant +rep this hard enough.

funny how economy worked well in Frontier. And is workin even better in more modern offline titles like Port Royale...

So you could buy the game again in a few weeks and get all your beta time for free? You've already played the game, no refund! The end!

Now a judge has only to clarify if a beta actually is the game you purchased. I imagune you buying a brand new car, the dealer gives you a tire to play around with and then tells you the actual car would unfortunately miss the motor, but hey no problem you could still roll around in it. Now for your refund... well, you already had fun with the tire?!

It is the game we have invested our cash, time and dreams in. They made it quite different from the one being advertised.
And they are not giving refunds to most of the people.

How woul'd you react in our place? Just a game, delt with it and walk away? I hardly doubt :D

Don't worry, you'll get your game you have paid for. We won't. That is a problem. ;)

I should not walk into this discussion. I knew I made a mistake by doing any comment here.
Iam sure sure that many didn't have intention to play the game in offline mode as most of us have internet. it actually take more bandwidth to reply to a forum like this than play the game in online solo mode. Modern games, nearly everyone , require internet connection.
Of course it affects a small amount of backers but during a game development things can change course. ive seen it in so many other game and this was not the first nor the last.
But I don't go berserk and accuse the company etc.
If you have been able to play the game during alpha and beta then an offline mode wouldn't be so much of an issue.
Issue for those that don't have internet connection yes, but iam so sure that most of the people that have posted here do have good internet connection.
Ive invested a lot of money in this game. And I knew from start its a risk, but I calculated with it that I might loose it. And so far they have not disappointed me as the content they promised is still there and will be in.

A tip , if you don't want to play this game and don't get a refund. Sell your account. Good time to do it as many still will buy it at release.

You are entitled to a refund.....You shout Law and then everyone has to abide by the law including FD
Here are the Lawful rules...

We have started responding to requests where there is a clear outcome:
- Those who have pre-ordered an Elite: Dangerous release version from our online store and have therefore not yet played the game are eligible for a refund.
- Those who have already been playing the game online in the Alpha and/or Beta phases, regardless of whether they backed the project via Kickstarter or purchased access to Alpha and/or Beta through our online store, are not eligible for a refund.

So there are the rules.....

Just wow sunshine you really are a case. Greefing causes more than instant effects - especially in a persistant economically and politically volitile environement. Persistent greefing can change a political entities rating and therefore affect trading and NPC behaviour - or are you simply so simple as to believe that this doesn't happen?

The same goes for newbie hunting - if it's organized and persistent you get a downgrading of planetary security rating which invites more pirates and bounty hunters into the system.

EVERYTHING has case and effect sunshine but keep you head stuck snugly in the sand - it's warmer there and reality is bloody cold.

Like I mentioned before, I reckon if they got a refund they would just buy themselves the game again in a few weeks and get the time they spent with the beta for free.

Now we know what you would do. Good for you. Not everyone is like you. People exist that have perspectives that are different from your own.

So you could buy the game again in a few weeks and get all your beta time for free? You've already played the game, no refund! The end!

I have not played the game since I have waited for offline version with all the goodies in it. And if offline is about to be promised in XX amount of time after the release I woul'd not ask for any refunding. But, ofcourse, david failed to do that. He is talking about possiblities but without any real commitments. That is a problem that will probably drive me to ask for refunds. sadly. cause it will be a much harder decision for me than their "hard" decision to kill offline mode.

Just like to point out your circular logic here. They created the game. They created the game and FOCUSED on mmo, relegating the offline part to the back of the bus. So pointing out that not having a "working economy," in an offline mode, is because it was MADE that way. They CHOSE to do it that way. They could of just as easily made it so that the strictly offline, no connection mode, had a decent working economy. They just didn't. And that is not the fault of the player.

Haha, indeed! I did enjoy that tasty cheeseburger I purchased the other day for lunch, however, now that I think about it ought to have had a few more sesame seeds on the bun... I wonder...

If you want to use that analogy it's like the dealer gives you a car that's supposed to have 600hp but due to mechanical problems it can only get 550hp.

No you actually buy the Beta.......The game is free.....That's why no refund for the actual game ...

lol so after jerking my knee a few times I decided to go actually read newsletter #50 and I have to say I just kept getting madder and madder as I kept reading the stuff being written.

I don't believe a word of it.
