[O.A. VIDEO] Does Elite Dangerous Have a Content Problem?

I know what you mean. I remember a thread about space legs and atmopheric planets and comes a community manager and says that space legs won't be around for some time, but suspiciously leaves out atmospheric planets.

I'm not talking about earthlikes just the basic ones or it could be Gas Giants. Both would fit. We shall see.

Ye the changes I was thinking about were the non landables but not elw...I have a feeling something might happen with elw but not until Q4 at least...time will tell ^

Earthlikes I am not expecting for some time down the line, maybe even one or two years away, but I could be pleasently surprised.

Emergent content would be great, but still, what is it? What will it be if it would be possible? What do we want exactly? What we hear on this is mostly something from other games and you know what happens: don't play E: D if you want to play this other game. A legit reply, but still no answer to the "content" question.

Emergent gameplay creates itself if people have the social tools to easily meet and find each other and work together.

My ED experiance has mostly been a lonely one.. its very hard to meet people in game and build something that lasts.

suggestions.
Guilds, Home bases, guild missions (player created and RNG), guild wars, guild aliiances, guild trade, etc.

i want to be a part of a guild or clan and i want the ability to work with those people in laughter, friendship and gameplay both emergent and game generated.

right then lovely people.... even Verminstar :p

Let's knock off the baiting and flaming and get back on topic please.

It's Friday and Sunny (well here it is) and let's all play nicely.

Thanks all.

It is the same old "lack of depth" argument - exactly the stance of a large portion of the serial complainers (nothing new).

FD are well aware of the depth complaint, and seem to be trying to address that with 3.x updates but I see the same complaints despite FD's efforts and declarations of related planned content (albeit with few details).

Dude we are probably on the same page. I also have enjoyed many many hours on this game, but that doesnt make the content problem go away, and thats my opinion. Remembering the exciting and fun first months of playing, isnt providing a solution.

And yes it has content like power play, engineers, cqc, multicrew, guardian weapons, but it is all problematic. If you think it is all perfect and complete and engaging then what can i say..

But i dont. When i was new the game felt massive and exciting. now im an old salt its feels small and empty.

My original post suggests that the game is great for newbies and empty for time invested players.

As for solutions.. ive suggested many ideas over the years on this forum and so have alot of other people. Fdev will be holding an Idea mixing pot thread soon talking about 3.4 and what we would like to see. So maybe that is a good place to engage.

I know the devs read these threads and comments... (Hello devs... Much respect Dudes! :p) So even here just talking about these issues maybe gives the professional game designers some food for thought.

Guilds and homebases were never going to be in ED....EVER. Just go back a couple of years and even making the suggestion of clans would have a flood of fanboys descend upon you with braben quotes wielded in their clenched fists "Braben said NO GUILDS!!!!!!!!!! ARRGHHHHH!!!"

LOL

Maybe not that dramatic but it's funny now that those people aren't here anymore so they lasted long and cared about the game didn't they? All their defence of the game to keep it how it is and held the game back and now aren't anywhere to be seen or heard. Ironic that we now seem to be heading that way which is a great idea but unfortunately, too little and too late most likely.

By the Great Prophet Zarqoun no. Burn this idea, burn it with fire before it lays eggs.

i know this sentiment exists because i have suggested these ideas before. But IMO fdev can only do so much to provide content in such a massive game. but improving the social dimension of ED creates fertile ground for players to engage and create their own sense of purpose within the game world.

We are getting guilds and home bases (fleet carriers) in Q4 and guild chat. Hopefully that will help alot towards what you are looking for. As to guild wars that will be up to what you use your squadron and fleet carrier for. Not sure I like the idea of guild trade, what would that entail?

We agree then. I just dont hold my breath that they will listen the community suggestions. They always seem to ask feedback when it is too late to change anything. Meaning ofc that they want to play the good guys, while their communication is terrible and all the updates after the release have failed to be completed and fixed.

The original Elite games, wonderful that they where are relics in video gaming history.
Everything needs to evolve or it turns stagnant and dies.

Old fused with new. Elite needs room to grow.

Before I bought ED I checked to make sure they hadn't mistakenly put any player guilds in it.

Luckily DBOBE said no as he thinks they behave like Mafioso (his own extremely derogatory words), they just don't really fit with players blazing their own trails. ED's more Han Solo than it is Ming the Merciless.

I wouldn't bother if I were you. It ain't worth your time.
Probably true - we can live in hope though. :D

OA's video does perhaps raise ONE valid point perhaps, there has been an apparent resurgence in complaints about lack of content (maybe it is a seasonal thing - there does seem to be a pattern to the surges). I don't agree there are any major content issues though.

I still have faith, but my scepticism is starting to become orthodox.
As far as im concerned ED has until 3.4 to blow me away and open my wallet again otherwise by then my waning interest may become terminal and final.

I don't mind player guilds as long as they don't have executive control of stations and systems in the game. Squardons and Fleet Carriers looks like it could be a good compromise, but I am unsure if it will be enough for some who I think will want a full on EVE like experience.
