Modes Obligatory "Merge solo, open, private groups" thread

I think you'd have to be a bit thin skinned to become a jerk just because people are calling you names.

I've been called plenty of names and i'm not a jerk... in game :p

You may drift into an environment with selective jerkyness. Sub cultures where some jerky moves are considered legit.
Even illegal jerk moves may be accepted If the other guy is ‘a bigger’ jerk.
And it’s just a game, you know. It’s on my computer and I can do what I want with it. :D

Indeed it is a game - and there's no requirement to either play the game at all with players that provide no "fun" or to play among them.

Frontier chose to let players do pretty much what they want in-game - with the flip-side that they don't require any player to play with other players if they choose not to.

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
Can we please drop the 'forum dad/mom/aunt/second-cousin-removed' name calling?

It should go without saying, but here I am saying it.

And yes, before anyone busts a vein yelling that there is a double standard, that goes for 'psychopath' and 'mentally ill' too.

Robert isn't trying to stop change and he definitely isn't the one in denial. You have your risk and the reward of competition, being on top if you win... and if you need a "reward" because of the chance you may lose. Think about all those who don't PVP and are shot to heck felt.

Well undeniable, PvP doesn't need, necessarily, cooperation.
Which, understandably caused a lot of players to shy away from Open. So as long as the game contradicts itself, a mode for all in which you can not avoid PvP on one side and
a mechanic to "undermine" Open by switching mode, we face a dilemma if we not agree about how or how not to play this game.

Granted, by design, Elite has no "right&wrong" there. So while it remains neutral, its neither here nore there mentality, is what we can't change.

So, either PvPers accept Solo and or PvEers change their attitude in Open. The controversy go one for ever, will remain, the dilemma unsolved.

Interesting times:

Open only

• Powerplay contacts are only available to players in open
• Powerplay vouchers and commodities are destroyed if a player enters solo or private groups

Reasoning: We’ve saved the biggest change for last, as making Powerplay Open only goes way beyond the remit of a tweak. We’ve seen this topic discussed many times and we think it’s time we addressed it directly to get as much quality feedback as possible.

Powerplay is fundamentally about consensual player versus player conflict. We think that pretty much all of the systems and rules would benefit from being played out in Open only, as it would dramatically increase the chance of meeting other pledged players and being able to directly affect the outcomes of power struggles.

Hello Commanders!

For clarity: Open only is being considered for Powerplay. Not anything else. Also, Open only would still be limited to platform, so no instanced crossplay.

Hello Commander Jockey79!

Folk can demand whatever they wish, but we are only considering Open only for Powerplay, as we feel it may be uniquely suited to supporting the feature.

In addition, this is far from a done deal, and we're acutely aware of the importance of such a change, which is why we want to get feedback from the user base before committing to anything.

Regardless, happy birthday to you and your daughter.
