Unlike many games elite and the people who play it together can teach you things .. they teach you that you don't have to climb mountains to be on top of the world, and even the ugliest of places can have beauty, as long as you take the time to look, and its ok to get lost as long as you find your way back, if i didn't have this game id miss the fact that it teaches you to find your own way, and how to move on through your own barriers, this universe holds beauty in even the most unexpected places, and that there are bright places, in the darkest of corners, and if you can't see that, you can be a bright place in a dark universe. Elite is more than just a game, its the people who play it , together and in love of a path we all set to our own rhythm.
SUPPORT ELITE PLAY THE GAME FIND YOUR BRIGHT PLACES.

that's the comment I posted in discord yesterday ... thanks David that means a lot , this is not a game, its community

Greetings Commanders.

With the release of Update 5 on 1st July plus a few smaller server updates since, and Update 6 currently in development, I wanted to take a moment of your time to talk about the next steps for Elite Dangerous.

We are aware and fully accept the frustration that many of our players have had with their experience of Elite Dangerous Odyssey. The community have spoken, we have heard the feedback clearly and we will act on that feedback.

As you may remember in our recent development article, the significant amount of updates and development effort that has been done to fix and improve issues since the launch of Odyssey has meant work on our console release has not progressed as quickly as we had hoped. What’s more, we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.

With those things in mind, we have spent a lot of time discussing and re-evaluating our previous plans and we have made the decision to prioritise the core PC experience for Elite Dangerous. Ultimately, we believe it is right to focus our efforts on the core Elite Dangerous Odyssey experience for the platforms that we have released on, before opening up to more. We know that the work that we do to improve players’ experiences of Elite Dangerous Odyssey on PC will benefit other platforms in the future, but the dates and details of the console platforms are going to change. We do not want to rush into confirming any dates or changes this has on our console release, as we must remain fully focused on the core Elite experience. Only when we feel that the foundation of the PC release is solid, will we be able to re-lay our console roadmap on top.

Elite Dangerous Odyssey is an important step on a complicated journey, and we must get this right, before we can consider moving on to these new platforms.

So what does this actually mean for Elite Dangerous and Elite Dangerous Odyssey?

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

We will continue to give open monthly development updates where we discuss WIP content, challenges, the issue tracker and more. We know that the previous levels of detail for the roadmap and developer update have not met expectations, but we are grateful for your patience while we shift and adjust plans, in the face of such clear feedback.

Please remember that our team here at Frontier are working hard to support the game and our community. Behind every bug fix, design decision and community post is a person who cares a lot about giving our players best possible experience. I would ask that everyone remains calm and respectful when sharing their thoughts and feedback.

We all have the same goal and we will get there, together. Please bear with us.

o7 Commanders.
Greetings David!
tell me this (What's more, we can see that the strides we have made through the last five major updates are positive, but we must continue on with this progress to give the experience that you and we expect on PC.) are you talking about the 5 June patches with bug fixes? is that what you call "major updates"? tell me honestly, are you making fun of your community?
Do you think this is really funny?

David,

Thanks for this communication. I have many additional and/or concomitant concerns and questions.

Are you holding back any features for story/lore/emergent purposes, or is this it in terms of the entirety of the update? I'm focused less on updates of what is (expected and basic), and more on my concern that what is isn't nearly enough to comprise a meaningful experience (a more strategic concern that would have been driven strategically by you). I apologize for the intensity of my tone, relative to my posting history re: Frontier/Elite; I'm a premium beta/LEP holder and can easily - easily! - imagine content leveraging even what you have here (Thargoid FPS experiences, Guardian re-emergence, damage models across more ships than just the 'Conda) if not more (much more robust amto experiences/variation [the retreat across the dev process into "light" or "tenous" atmospheres - essentially abandoning the intimated commitment to rich and varied and comprehensive atmo experiences - was deeply painful], much more robust variation and types of station interiors, ship interiors, EVA gameplay). I haven't been actively disappointed in any phase of the Elite: Dangerous experience, and have been a rampant advocate of it, but I'm disappointed today.

What percentage of overall Odyssey experiential features have we seen? 30%? 95%? Please share that with us.

As a Playstation player I can't deny I feel sad that we won't be seeing Odyssey until later. But would rather have the issues resolved on a single platform before complicating it further with consoles. Maybe we'll even see some improvements for PS5.
Just hope there is still a community on console by the time it is released.

This is good news, thanks for not giving up on the game and trying to fix the botched release before diving into more platforms.

Thank you for the update. This tells me you have given up on the console versions completely, and we can not expect the Odyssey update until at least autumn 2023, or even later. It's hugely disappointing as I think this will essentially degrade the console player community, and this basically means the end for Elite Dangerous on consoles. You see the numbers, you know how many people play on these platforms and Frontier took on the responsibility to create and nurture this experience that is Elite Dangerous, on all platforms. Cutting them from the development plans like dead meat in case of a setback is a disheartening experience after so many years of devoted support. I applaud you and the team for what you've achieved with Elite Dangerous and I will follow what development the PC version goes through. However, I don't expect any console update for at least a year, and possibly ever.

As someone who criticised EDO in a mostly negative manner and as someone who has refused to purchase it, I am pleased by the change of plans to focus on quality rather than rushing the garbage to other platforms only to disappoint more players.
What I also like is the refusal to mention official release dates. It is ready when it is ready. Have no crunch in game dev would also highly improve quality as working long doesn't necessarily mean working good or being productive.
While I still won't purchase EDO in its current state, I am have drawn a positive conclusion from this post and am curious about the results in the coming weeks.

I read that without seeing who had posted it. Honestly when I saw it was from David it brought a tear to my eye. I have huge respect about that small thing.

Many thanks, David. This is EXACTLY what we need. This kind of communication is what we have been crying out for for so long. Please understand that we all love the game and we can see how Odyssey could become the premier multi-class space game in the very near future. We also understand that everyone in FDEV is working hard to optimise all the different parts of the game. We really appreciate it.

I thought you ended up buying it or having it bought for you? Or was I drunk?
I was this || close, not with my own money but with some Steam gift donations. Then I saw the infamous "road map" along with very dismal post-update reports, and I just couldn't.

I will probably buy it when it goes on sale (because I'm only interested in about half of what it offers, so I'm willing to pay half price) and when the issues I previously listed are fixed. No promises, but as I said in another thread, it remains in my wishlist for now.

...but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.
So pc users may get new content whilst us console peasants just have to sit back and watch pretty YouTube videos about what we are missing out on.
Will console players also get new content too or will everything already have been discovered and enjoyed by pc players by the time we get around to console release...... which will now be when?

Great plan guys 👍

Focusing on PC is the right choice, that console players have to take a hit is sad, but in the end it might be worth it for both parties. Killing off the console market for EDO doesn't seem like a thing they would happily consider, so I won't side with you on that one.

Ironically it was the roadmap more than the product itself that turned me off, I just... never mind... For the first time, my joystick is packed away and the game uninstalled.

I'll echo my fellow consolers and say that fixing odyssey before console launch is a good move, none of us were expecting the autumn release.
my only concern now is this:

It means that we will see more game updates over the coming months. We will continue to work through Issue Tracker, fix bugs and improve performance, but we will also be able to explore and add additional features, content and improvements into the game.

to me it suggests that it comes before a console launch of odyssey and that wont be taken so well

Although a lot of us console plebs saw this coming, it still seems like a massive slap in the face. I don’t know why your team were telling us as early as last week that everything was still on track. Just be transparent. As soon as you know something, tell us. We keep taking you at your word and you keep throwing it back in our faces. The whole roadmap, the release dates, the planned content with no extra details, it’s all just a little disingenuous.

I’ve been playing since 2017, I’ve loved this game and had some great experiences. However, as a customer, I don’t feel like your company can be trusted and your integrity is questionable. Be open, be transparent, be honest. If you can’t do it, say that.
But last week it was still planned for autumn, today they made the decision to change lnans and announced it, and as soon as they are confident of a new date for console they"ll let you know.

You can't demand them to keep you informed and then complain when they do. It may be bad news, but that is part of the nature of being informed.
