NASA and scientists have already created hundreds of "stellar forges" and simulations ...
where do you think frontier took all the data, planet images, the milky way itself, etc ...?
With our first hotfix now released and another one arriving very shortly, I wanted to take a moment to address the wider community feedback and reports regarding performance issues, server outages, and bug reports within Elite Dangerous Odyssey.
First and foremost, I would like to apologise wholeheartedly to those who have been suffering from these problems. I would like to reassure you that we take these issues very seriously and that they are our top priority and focus.
Our second hotfix will be released very soon, which we hope will address more of the reported bugs and bring further stability improvements into the game. We will continue to work on updates which will resolve more bugs and improve stability further.
Some of our players are reporting poor performance on machines where we would expect the performance to be good, and others are saying it is fine. We are trying to get to the bottom of this. I have been playing on my old home machine from 2014, which has an Intel i7 Extreme CPU and a GTX 980 GPU, 16 Gb RAM, playing at 1080p full screen at Ultra. I was doing this so I could have a good feel for how the game was playing on older hardware, and I used this same machine during Alpha. I have also been playing on a high spec 2021 dev machine.
I would like to thank you all for your patience and support. The Elite Dangerous community has always been at the heart of the game. We understand that there are a number of players who have had problems accessing and playing the game and I can assure you that we are focusing fully on improving this for those affected and communicating with you openly and regularly about how these issues are being addressed.
6 days that I am stuck in the Apex Shuttle Infinite Loop because of the poor AI path finder ( tried recovery to orbit does NOT work, various multi crew work arounds do NOT work)
It is obviously a big mess, I am not asking the above issue to be fix asap. I know what to expect from an alpha product release as a game and companies eager to make profit.
Provide the support your staff need.
below your words

2 Cents about Planets:
There has been A LOT of heat concerning the Stellar Forge and how borked it was. I myself launched Odyssey without bothering to have a look at the Options (I presumed my driver would know best...silly me...), visited Turner Metallics, Inc., and was a little underwhelmed, to say the least, as I wrote in some earlier posts See here for my growing concern.
After landing on an athmospheric planet and scanning my first genetic samples, I thought the surface looked rather nice, and plausible for that rocky planet, but maybe the terrain lacked a little, well, terrain.
So today I put the two Exes to the test.
First, I cranked the graphics up in both versions as far as I dared, and tried to get corresponding settings for both Horizons and Odyssey. I also noticed more and different options in Odyssey, and cranked those up, too (allocating GPU time for terrain, terrain settings, etc.,....I thought that might be worth a try...^^ ;-) Edit: I put a framerate cut at 90, and as a result, I got something like 47-55fps in both engines throughout the game, stations, planets, flight. more like 75-89 during jumps. I think that´s absolutely fine, and I didn´t notice a drop in Odyssey worth mentioning. I knw people reported other experiences, but that´s my account. a stable 55 is all I ask for.
Then I flew back to that exact same planet, in Horizon, took some images, flew to a neighboring planet without atmosphere, so I could land, took images, logged out, logged back in in Odyssey, took more images, and went back to the first planet for landing.
So, here it is:
Horizon:
Here are the Odyssey-Images:
(the blue "lakes" are actually the scanner heatmap, filtered for the last organism I still need to sample)
Bonus goodie:
Haze! Dunes! Plant life! XD!
So. I don´t know. It seems to me, the new planets are at least fine, if not spectacular in direct comparison. I can not complain about a lack of terrain on the non-atmospheric planet where I landed.
The planet with atmosphere also seems to have a lot more detail in Odyssey. The terrain seems flatter than in the other planet but that is logical: A planet with atmosphere would be subject to wind erosion!! So I am perfectly fine with that. Maybe, on launch the graphics options are set to a safe default that results in reduced detail, and ppl need to open up their Options to get the new planet surfaces in their full glory.
Maybe, I got lucky and picked one of the planets that are not affected by the apparent renderer bug. Maybe yesterday´s hotfix silently took care of a lot of these issues.
What I wanted to say: I am amazed, and partially reconciled, and I admire the work put into this!
Yes, it is sad and a little annoying, that it was launched apparently prematurely due to time, money and workforce constraints. Yes, there are some bugs left, I sometimes get stuck when disembarking, yes , the KI are awfully good shots, yes, penalties for foot soldiers are high compared to mission rewards, but in my opinion, the state of the game is not nearly as bad as the media would have us believe.
FD´s main mistake seems to have been to stoke extremely high expectations, and then rush a premature launch, where kinks in the code and overloaded servers met with desastrous results.
But as of tonight: I am fine. I am gonna stick with Odyssey for the time being.

Hi David!
You know VR on average demands 90fps for smooth and healthy experience?
Now i'm sure you're going to get EDO into good condition over time and the dust will settle down, take this release as a valuable lesson!
If you guys do it right as fix bugs/planetary tech, improve performance AND add an apology gesture in form of a bit thicker atmospheres to have proper daylight on planet surface all this bad publicity could turn up into very positive publicity and free marketing trick.

i7 8700k 3.7 GHz OC'd to 5GHz
32GB DDR4 16500
RTX 2080 OC'd
Samsung 970 EVO NVMe
Odyssey G9
In the opening mission on the ground when I get to the part with the fire I was getting 10FPS Max with the settings at LOW running Fullscreen 5120x1440. Changing the resolution to 1920x1200 in Windowed mode I was able to get 25FPS. This was on a brand new fresh install of the game, with the latest Nvidia drivers v466.47
Is it me or planets in Horizons have this real life esthetics where planets look like how real planet might look like and with Odyssey they look like someone randomly put some crap on big ball.

So far, the Odyseey planets I have been to look a lot more plausible and lifelike than the Horizon planets, in comparison.
A thing I noticed, though, is that the appearance of a planet changes as you approach it, in both games, and there is a "middle distance" where it looks worst, and I think this happens at different altitudes between Horizon and Odyssey. Also, it might be more noticeable in Odyssey, simply because there is more detail on the surface. Once you are close enough, it´s fine again.
Try tweaking around with the terrain work and LOD settings.
Speaking of "Just saying ," Eye think Eye might know you from somewhere else. Not sure, but "Just saying . "
On Topic:
I know everyone is well... I really don't need to go there. It fascinates me how little that people remember past problems with major patches. This has happened before. It will happen again. Even back when Horizons went live, they were still ironing out problems for a long time. Some got fixed, some never did.
My point is, why should any of this surprise anyone? I almost, almost-- preordered Alpha. Something just kept telling me not to. So, I still haven't bought ED Od. I'll stick with ED Ho until I'm satisfied the major (and quite possibly game breaking) issues are handled...or not. Glad I saved $40+ at any rate.
lol
more than 140 post in two wheeks about Odyssey and you don't even have the game!
A man wasting his time in a forum talking about a game he don't even own calls others empty heads!! just lol.

not as much as "those who enjoy the game", but they spend the day in the forum defending dad ... what is more ridiculous ?? right now I am a user of a forum while I do other things on the pc, except playing .....
If a game that I enjoy pushes me to argue in a forum, tomorrow I will stop playing any game.
what idiocy
every day this forum is more ridiculous, quiet, as soon as I come, I will leave .... no interest in arguing
