Odyssey Progress

Please do not apologize! Your team is building the Universe for us to play in. It took GOD a full 7 days to create the Universe... and we are only in day 5 post release! Just sayin'.. can we all give the dev teams some time, please!! R E L A X everybody!
1. There is no God. But I've been told by people that their imaginary friend only took 6 days of work, so get yourself a better god.

2. They had two years of time, not 5 days. We didn't get any meaningful update except for fleet carriers during that time because "everyone is working so hard on Odyssey"

Consumers have paid hard cash for something that is simply was not and is not, fit for purpose.
Let me add one better: Does the software industry, since this is so "normal for all launches" think EU having a good look at their practise of selling a completed product and delivering ... something else ... would be optimal for the software industry? Do they feel confident that the EU consumer protection agencies will be thrilled and happy about their current business practises? Or is that exactly the kind of regulation they wake up at 3 in the night screaming after having dreamt about?

The EU has been looking at warranties for software products for years now. The fact they haven't been able to bring something into law yet suggests this isn't as easy as they would've hoped.

More protections for customers buying software is definitely needed, I just seriously doubt its going to happen any time soon. Perhaps it would be better to lay off the pre-orders until consumers are better protected.

I appreciate I'm late to the party, and my reply is just but one on a pretty large (33 page) thread, however I'd just like to offer my support to David and his team at FDEV.

One question to you: What can we do to help?

When I heard about the release of Odyssey (I still stumble on the spelling!) I was eager, despite the fact that personal circumstances didn't allow me to participate in the alpha. Watching the YouTube videos of a few of the big hitters during the alpha (OA, Exigous etc) I knew that ED:O would be a big undertaking and its final roll-out would probably not be without issue.
I still went ahead and purchased the expansion, though, as I had faith that FDEV would deliver, and they would need real-world user experiences to help fine tune this.
We're all here because we are invested in some way in Elite Dangerous. Why not contribute in a way that is beneficial?

FDEV- well done so far, please keep it up.
THAT! o7

I wonder how much releasing far too early will cost FD? Poor reviews, potential new players, and existing players being deterred from buying Oddyssey / base game. Degraded reputation?
Releasing unfinished products seems to me to be a general trend in the industry. Im am looking at you, Ubisoft and EA. Because it is a general trend, it strongly smells like market forces to me. Falling into all-out rage over some kinks as customers doesn´t seem really helpful. That only serves to speed up the return cycle even further. Offering constructive criticism, even in a persistent manner, maybe closer to optimal, but that´s just me.

I do agree that constructive criticism is much more helpful, but there is a limit to how much any person would be willing to work for free.

Remember, this is paid content.

Greetings Commanders,

With our first hotfix now released and another one arriving very shortly, I wanted to take a moment to address the wider community feedback and reports regarding performance issues, server outages, and bug reports within Elite Dangerous Odyssey.

First and foremost, I would like to apologise wholeheartedly to those who have been suffering from these problems. I would like to reassure you that we take these issues very seriously and that they are our top priority and focus.

Our second hotfix will be released very soon, which we hope will address more of the reported bugs and bring further stability improvements into the game.  We will continue to work on updates which will resolve more bugs and improve stability further.

Some of our players are reporting poor performance on machines where we would expect the performance to be good, and others are saying it is fine. We are trying to get to the bottom of this. I have been playing on my old home machine from 2014, which has an Intel i7 Extreme CPU and a GTX 980 GPU, 16 Gb RAM, playing at 1080p full screen at Ultra. I was doing this so I could have a good feel for how the game was playing on older hardware, and I used this same machine during Alpha. I have also been playing on a high spec 2021 dev machine.

I would like to thank you all for your patience and support. The Elite Dangerous community has always been at the heart of the game. We understand that there are a number of players who have had problems accessing and playing the game and I can assure you that we are focusing fully on improving this for those affected and communicating with you openly and regularly about how these issues are being addressed.

Thank you all,

David
David the direction you go and what we did get with Odyssey is nothing like you promised us years ago,

Ok, One more thought: If the renderer for stars and planets was changed to accomodate for the console release, please find a way to keep the Horizon system for Horizon owners on PC, if we launch Horizon from the launcher. Please.
I can see how this could be a technical issue to make Odyssey playable on console with all the new content, light sources and objects crammed into the console hardware, but please, my machine can handle it, so let me choose the hardware load and enjoy glorious protuberances and flares, and craggy planetary surfaces with real terrain.

In recent years, the drive to make merged versions of everything for cross-playability between consoles and PC has ruined some awesome games (Hawken, Blacklight:Retribution), and generally per title results in subpar graphics for PCs, well below what the machines could handle.
There has to be a way to swap player data via the server between PCs and consoles to make instances accessible for both, while both can have the graphics client side that their respective hardware can handle, no? You wouldn´t even need to write a new system, you already got one in Horizons.

Thanks David, some more attention to support cases as well as fixing the bugs would be helpful. In my case I lost millions due to bug, still waiting on a response from support to my case. That would go a long way in moving sentiment in positive direction around Odyssey .

so far, all my foot missions were at night...and I am a looong way from unlocking nightvision for any suit....:(
Also, as others mentioned, lethal response for a single stolen tube of glue seems harsh, and 100 000 fine for a failed mission because some security rambo shot me on sight?

If we're going into religion, God demands humans take SOME kind of "day of rest" assuming we truly ARE made in the image of the maker. But, of course, it's all imaginary friends as far as any of us mortals can scientifically perceive, so...all bets are off.

Okay, so you've been playing on an old machine and a new machine. What did you see? At no point in this paragraph do you actually report on what the experience was. Did it run fine, did you get 12fps, did you experience the glitches others have reported, did you have fun, what happened?

Hiring NASA or Space X teams must be very expensive.

However, I wonder if they would be able to create a Stellar Forge. 🤔

After all, everyone has their own domain.

😷
NASA and scientists have already created hundreds of "stellar forges" and simulations ...
where do you think frontier took all the data, planet images, the milky way itself, etc ...? 🤦‍♂️

A warning...
