Odyssey Progress

As one of the apparently few who has not had many issues with Odyssey, I can definitely say I am happy with it. It's nice to see the issues I do have being fixed promptly and hope that these fixes also help others enjoy the game more.

Probably foolish, because there's no way FDev couldn't have known about the state of Odyssey before release. They released it with many issues from the Alpha, issues they said would be fixed.

A lot of player trust was (rightfully) lost, push back shouldn't be all that surprising.

Oh, there'd be tears at bedtime if they delayed again, just as much as there are currently with the buggy launch. Sometimes you just have to kick it out the door and let the cards fall where they may. It's not self-flying airliner, a life support machine, or a nuclear weapons control network, it's a computer game. A bit of fun.

I can still have fun poking around a buggy game as long as I know it's mostly going to be fixed. It's an entertaining frivolity that I have absolutely nothing important riding on.

And if it doesn't get fixed, I can at least enjoy the tantrums and people talking about "moments of misery" like low frames-per-second killed their grandparents 😂

Stuck on a GTX 970 here, so I dig this. Biggest issue right now for me is performance on planet surfaces. I know my GPU is old, but it's impossible to find a replacement these days. Hopefully things improve going forward. (y)
Upgraded from a 970 last July, still a really great card given it's age.

First and foremost, we need a fix for being unable to revert to Horizons, the "recover to orbit" does not work.

I am softlocked into my Apex taxi doing circles because the ai can not navigate around a ring.

I cannot play horizons because of a bug from odyssey. Eagerly looking forward to the hotfixes

I'd just like to say thanks David for acknowledging the community and it's concerns, sometimes it can feel like our concerns aren't heard or passed on to the people who make the changes, I'm very grateful that you are looking into this and will hold on for the improvements to come. This WILL be a great game once a few things are fixed. Very thankful for this post.

Please fix ultrawide monitor maps. The cursor targeting is offset wrong. Otherwiswe (apart from some performance issues) great job :)
Oh god. This. Please! Also the horizontal stretching towards the edge of the screen which looks far more pronounced than in most game engines (possibly just because it's more noticible in a game with lots of spheres in it!)

ED plus ultrawide is theoretically such a good combination. Nice field of view while still able to see your controls, but the map issue is frustrating and the elipitical planets are very immersion breaking, especially once you get to 32:10 and so on. There's been a ton of work into supporting VR for the lucky few who own all the kit, but nothing for those of us who have big curved monitors.

I've played Elite in 4k since I got it. Used to play it on 2 x 908ti. big 4k TV 4 feet from my face. never had an issue with performance. Now I have a 2080ti, same tv. In stations with all settings set to lowest I'm getting 40 frames. So to get a locked framerate I'd have to go to 30. This would ruin the game for me I'm afraid. Any drop in resolution would be a marked step back in how I play the game and would heavily impact my enjoyment. Saying that I even went as far as to set supersampling to 85% in the same station and still it was only around 48fps. this is after driver updates and deleting graphics config. Btw the game lighting is beautiful, the sound is, as usual, utterly outstanding and the onfoot gameplay is amazing as well. But yeah not having 4k 60 is me not seeing the game as its meant to be seen imo. And this game is all about how it looks and feels.

Thanks for the update, it's good to know that issues are being managed.

I've actually rolled back to Horizons since yesterday and it sure is like playing a whole different game in terms of stability and FPS.

My GTX 1060 was burning up anyway so it was impossible to keep playing on Odyssey. With Horizons the fan of my card doesn't even turn on.

So I guess it is possible to achieve a better optimization.

Look at all these bot accounts.... Brought out the whole marketing team to cover up all the negative reviews I see. I could care less about your computer specs which you didn't even say if it worked or not. If you actually played the release Braben you would be as disgusted as we are. Fact is you released a game before it should of because your investors haven't seen anything note worthy in some time. That's why your skins are overpriced. That's why you charged people $10 dollars to test your game even though the whole community is testing it now for free. This is now why your DLC is rated 5/10 on Steam with Mostly Negative Reviews. Save your automated apologies and fix your work. If I try to pass craftsmanship like this in my field I would be out of a job.

Sure. Because people are saying "thanks for the update" and offering words of support and encouragement in hope that a game we all enjoy playing improves, they're bot accounts.

Nobody with a different mindset than you exists. Noted.

Running this in my G2 at about 80% recommended resolution i can barely consider the entire experience as barely acceptable performance wise, if you consider supercruising in 45 motion vectored acceptable.

Significantly worse than horizons in every section of the game.

And i have an i7 8700k with 32gb ram and a 3090.

Again BARELY PLAYABLE!
It's worse than DCS at this point.

At this point I'm considering demanding a refund.
