ANNOUNCEMENT Odyssey Update 2021

I've seen enough for now. It's not even a good First-Person game (and I hesitate to use the word "shooter", just as I hesitate to take "shooter" type missions" but that's just me).

  1. Take Mission
  2. Wonder what that's all about but head out anyway
  3. Get very confused because countless other players are also trying to figure it out at the same time and undoing whatever you manage to figure out faster than you can figure it out.
  4. Finally work out you'll have a better chance in solo (due to step 3)
  5. Realise you don't have a vital piece of eauipment needed to complete your task.
  6. Fly back to the nearest station in order to buy said equipment.
  7. Discover the only way to do that is to buy a more expensive suit that is equipped with said equipment, which you can't afford.
  8. Give up.
It's become very clear to me that atmospheric planets have very little to do with this update. All you get is the same old Horizons planets with a faint coloured tinge on the horizon, poor framerates and LODs that look rubbish until they resolve (which can take many seconds). It's probably actually ruined Horizons until I can shell out on some new hardware (although admittedly that remains to be seen).

IT'S AN ALPHA! Stuff being broken is literally the point, and Frontier specifically came out the other day and said the optimization work has not been done yet, and the performance will be bad and to expect it to perform poorly in alpha.

Also some of your # items have already been fixed by the day 2 hotfix. And some of your other # items are obviously bugs that you, as an alpha tester should be reporting. This is an alpha test not an early access timeframe, you are being a tester, not a player.

But point is you're complaining that an alpha is an alpha...

Just wanted to say really enjoyed my session tonight last nights was fun but messy lost more than I made tonight was well paced and moderately lucrative just did the easy transport missions while getting the hang of using the boards charging points etc and getting a feel for the different types of settlements there are out there. So far liking the atmosphere. Oddly one of the things I would look forward to in the (distant) future is more weather effects. Oh yes and a sit down. I dont particularly mind the taxis either some people see the travel as a time sink (which it is I guess) but in a space travel game I see it kind of as the game.

Gotta admit I am mightily frustrated having spent hours failing missions to finally succeed in gaining the objective (collect documents) just to be destroyed in the Apex shuttle while taking off to return to the mission giver. It seems base security weren't impressed with me breaking into their facility and the patrol ship blew me and the poor Apex pilot to smithereens as we took off. so frustrating but really fun and enthralling while figuring out how to achieve my goals.

Having played first (phase of) original Alpha (also), all seems to be working as indented.

Highly disappointed with the instancing. My big hope with this update was the fact it took so long to make. There had to be enough time to put in a better network stack, which would radically improve so many aspects of the game.

Maybe this update is more about optimization and bug smashing, rather than making it all new?

There is something familiar in this compared to Alpha´s and Beta´s at the past years.

IS IT REALLY??? THANK YOU FOR POINTING OUT HOW STUPID I MAY OR MAY NOT BE!!!

See, there's always someone who can shout louder.

I don't know what # items means. To me, a hashtag is an HTML bookmark that lets you link to a specific point in a page. Whatever it means on TwitFace or whatever is something I've never been able to fathom (not being a user of those platforms).

I'll take on board what you say about performance, but be aware that I've been around since the beginning and believe me, they'll forge ahead with whatever release date they have in mind whether it's ready and not.

...which it doesn't. Also, the mission requires me to extinguish any fires I find. Do I need to buy a fire extinguisher from somewhere?...
Put out the fire:
0.fire extinguisher is not needed
1. In the terminal, find the control console, put a mark on it.
2. We go to the label
3.use the cutter to the red panel
4.If necessary, then charge and activate

Is there a link to the patch notes page, I cant find anything on patches/hot patches?

Ok this adresses to the devs.

After all these years since 2014 i want to express what i find to be nice to have in ED. I am a Backer and owner of the life-time-pass. But i see my writing just as a sample of ideas and definitely not as something that would raise my discontent of the game when not included.

I played Odyssey alpha and can say i like it so far. Though i have some things that i finaly would like to mention about the actual main game.

First thing i want to mention may seem strange, but just now im in playing SeaOfThieves (by Rare) for a couple of days. So what i like very much in SoT is top of the list :: the atmosphere and feel of sailing over the waters. It's totally great to get onboard, set sails after lifting the anchor and then steer the heavyweight vessel over sea. If i want to locate myself, i have to go downstairs to the maptable. If i want to examine the horizon and look out for (maybe) hostile ships, i have to get onto the ladder and climb up to the crowsnest. If i want to check my inventory or cargo, i have to walk over decks to this and that. And all of this on a vessel that would wiggle and bounce over waves as high as a house.

I could be wrong, but that's what i want for ED. I want to leave the seat, while approaching a generic jungleworld. I want to go to the machines and switch stuff for atmosphere flight for instance. Sense the sounds of gases swirling and titanic raindrops banging on the ships hull. I want to get the autopilot do a top notch landing on some green willow between tall trees (i will be fine with mushrooms too). I want have a gaze at the steaming opening of the bulkhead and stare at the vivid environment outside. I turn round to my SRV, get in and pass by kilometers of fascinating sights. Find an outpost maybe destroyed maybe intact. Get out of the SRV on my feet, scan for incredible highclass loot. And then go and lift it with my hands, store it in the SRV-Trunk. Feel myself soooo good and happy and then kill all enemys and return to the awaiting Anaconda.

I wanna fly through space (regardless of normal or supercruise) and (after leaving the seat on my own two feet) go to upper decks to the astronomical research, twirl the fine glasses and get instantly fond information about all things around the ship (just take 'glasses' as a buzzword). And that would happen, while i was still approaching my destination and not stopping and remain on step.

I am waiting for atmospheric landings since day one. Me getting down over some alien jupiterlike Planet, busting through mountains of clouds and watch gigantic thunderstorms and stuff. And besides i do not like the approach on changing the setup of my vessel. Why do i have to get to a spaceport to change weaponssetup for mining and vice versa? It could be so cool if i was able to manage all these little setupthings by my own. And i mean not by pressing and klicking buttons but by virtually living the look and feel of real mechanical work. The path to easement in all gamers choices cuts all interesting attempts of bringing up fun. Player wants to load 500 tons of cargo? Just let him go to the cargobay and do the job even if it takes three or six minutes. To just click on "OK" is not atmospheric and generates and leaves immersion at zero level.

TLDR :: What ED lacks is feel of real settings and surroundings. Right now it's basicly just slots of interactibility. And they do not fit together very smart. I mean 'black transition' when changing from one to another locked cockpitseat is not very lifelike. And turning the firmly nailed head in 270° angle is little bit pitiful given so many examples of other Gameplay-Experiences. Let me walk up the f**king boarding bridge and pass through corridors to get to the command deck and not end up clicking "board Ship right now". Bring back newtonian physics to navigation. Let me accelerate infinite! I know it's bad for PvP but f**k it ^^)

Don't get me wrong … i really like ED and i use to play it always again with fun. I'm pretty happy to have supported the game back then. But there is this relativly tiny game SoT, which makes so many things more appealing to my Seafarer-Heart. And i do not really understand why it's so difficult for ED becoming a tremendous Space-Traveling-Sim. Odyssey may be a good step, but it seems to be only another separated stage for Shooter-Fanatics.

Just my two Cents and thanks for your time and effort!

I keep coming back for another go and I keep disappointing myself.

Decided to try a combat mission for a change. Knowning I'm not good at this FPS stuff I got to my destination, logged on to a terminal and picked sopmeone who was rated Mostly Harmless as that was the lowest rank available. That was after wasiting forty minutes or so working out what the hell I had to do to get to the point where I could target someone.

Spent another hour wandering around the settlement aimlessley (having to stop every few seconds to be repeatedly scanned by every singly NPC I encountered) before finally working out that there was a pushpin on my compass (anlthough nothing whatsoever on the scanner). Finally found my target and she one-shotted me.

Now, I don't claim to be any good at this FPS malarkey, which is why I've been going for non-combat missions so far (only to find out that they're impossible due to lack of credits), but the whole thing seems to be an exercise in how much frustration you can bear before you give it up as a bad job.

This much.

Also a backer with a lifetime pass, and it would seem a like minded soul. I lost interest in ED several years ago but I am hoping that with Odyssey I will be back and enjoying a little of what the OP has described above. My dream has also been to fly down through realistic clouds, land somewhere pretty and just explore the flora, fauna and the scenery. I want all of the above and more. If ED cannot eventually deliver then I trust that someone, someday will create the game that I and ANX want to play. (I must try Sea of Thieves!)

Ended up in a penal colony somehow. Got shot dead for theft, even though I don't remember taking anything. Anyway, sitting in the taxi I decided to wile way the minues on the forum again, and see if anybody else has wondered this:

How come the taxi driver's HUD is always switched off?

I only have one real question, as a LEP owner, does this mean I will get odyssey as part of the elite dangerous lifetime expansion pack deal?
