Odyssey would be amazing if it had ship interiors.

Using this logic I could come to the conclusion that FDev is still developing console version, but just told there won't be one to avoid the buzz :)
No. They have got the frame rate to a reasonable (if not perfect) level. If they tweak it slightly then and mention it then you will get "Its still not good enough" or "They should have done that from the start" comments in the forums. If they tweak it and don't mention it then you get the "Is it my imagination or have frame rates got better" comments. They are playing the psychology game. If they mention it, it pokes the hornets nest. If they don't mention it then the problem gradually goes away under a veil of silence, without the expectation that they will make it perfect.

I would like Frontier to lean more into customization options, though it's a balance. However, ship interiors would be a great source for color schemes etc.. However, I would prefer it if we could display exobiological specimens via collection rather than dlc.
I must admit that i am puzzled about them not capitalizing on a "trophy room", or having explorers level up simply by exploring.

Someone suggested "Scan a Gas Giant"(etc) as a mission at least as an introduction and it is a whole layer that is just waiting to be introduced at exceedingly low overhead as it ties into the already function systems ingame. :D

Might post it in the suggestion thread later, once i've formulated that and other things.

Actually the original game play videos had exactly that, so you could exit to the front or rear of the FC (I am assuming they were referring to the lifts at the docking area for rear and the lift at the private crew only area for the front), but that was never implemented in the final iteration,
Do you have a video link for that? I'm curious to see.

I am assuming either technical issues that made it difficult (don't really believe that) or game play issues. It's quite possible when testing before releasing to the players to trial that they found 99% of use was to go to the front lift and the rest of the FC was ignored, and that wouldn't surprise me at all. If they were going to put interiors in they were going to be "jolly well sure" players would walk through them!
I've noticed that initially there's a intent to push the new thing so that everyone engages and gets used to it, after that I think it dials back. I think we're seeing that a little with the onfoot materials being made available to missions you can take whilst still in the ship. I don't think that's generally uncommon or that unreasonable, and Frontier have launched features that were completely optional too.

I mean a lot of the time hunting bio like bacteria I can basically land with the blue circle on top of the bacteria, so black screen, blue circle, scan, black screen and off to the next patch. It would be.....annoying....if they were to add an interiors time sink to that process, bacteria are a pain to scan now because they pay so little, that would just make it a skip every time decision.
Let's say your ship has two exits, you have two options to take with the express lift. I'm pretty sure you could adjust your landing to suit. I understand that maybe initially while the feature is shiny and new that Frontier might want to only provide an exit to the passageway to then walk/run to the airlock, but it's worth noting that in a small ship, going through that process might not be that much slower, if at all.

Maybe a good way for Frontier to gauge potential usage of the feature would be to allow for an option to show an animated cutscene vs. fade to black when choosing to disembark in the current way the game does it, which would take the time they expect it would if interiors were implemented. Get some metrics for it and go from there. I believe the way I see it isn't much different from you essentially in that those for whom want it will use the cutscene and those who don't will stick to how it is already, with some middle-ground for those who might have more specific criteria to use it in regards to activity/time. The question remaining at that point is the balance between the two to see.

I have, but only because there was a really good sale that bundled Kingdom's End with the one I didn't have (ToA). I don't have ToA active, however, as it doesn't really offer me anything (except a nice yacht) that I'm interested in at the moment. I would not have bought ToA separately.

I've been playing Elite instead of X4 for the last week (or more), but I still sometimes expect to see a Teladi looking out at me from the windows of Elite's ATC towers, LOL.
Seems like Frontier need to keep expanding on Odyssey then. NPCs in control towers, Old Duck purchase confirmed? ;)

Oh how I would love these two games to marry and have a beautiful baby together!
I kinda feel that way about Empyrion & Elite actually.

It is unfair that I did not read the other 8 pages of this entry, but I had to comment to this in particular.

I'm a VR player, and the Odyssey FPS did not interest me. It "bolted" me to the cockpit chair and SRV chair. Landing at planet bases to complete "cockpit" missions left me drooling at the VR look at guards patrolling and skimmers patrolling wishing I could partake in the "mercenary" missions, or on foot poo-poo we others call it. It looks awesome, until I "disembark" and have my VR immersion ruined. So I just look out the cockpit and wonder, when will they allow this wonderful expansion called Odyssey foot missions be available to VR players, because after two years of updates, it still sucks. Okay, Odyssey is great for VR as well (ignoring foot and lighting and so on), but until they address VR, it is totally ignored.
Heading far out into la la land dreaming, I thought that having a mech could be a good way to have some 'onfoot' VR interaction whilst still being able use the cockpit control mechanics. However, while that sounds cool (at least to me), I know that it would open up a whole new avenue of development angles to take into consideration to implement well, to the point where they may as well just implement onfoot VR.

I'm getting a little back into the VR aspect myself, but for the foreseeable future I guess onfoot VR is going to remain in the same area of the game like looking at earthlike worlds from orbit, hoping one day to touch down into luscious jungle or grasslands.

I've played empyrion since it was added to steam, so quite a few years.

And tbf the plastic sheen and soundwork (or rather lack thereof), is what is keeping me far away.

I really did like the biome approach and landing in a forested area and seeing wildlife was inspiring i must admit.

It would definitely catch my attention. But Frontier still has a lot to fix in Odyssey before I'm ready to make the switch from Legacy.

Are you suggesting a threesome?

Yeah, it's very janky overall and there are many things I could point to that I would prefer to be different/better, but the tech tree and crafting shine through that IMO, and the actual biomes, as you say, are quite captivating. My son and I played it for a decent bit some time ago and was pretty fun. It would be amazing to me if the good bits of Empyrion I just mentioned were incorporated into Elite.

I think expanding the synthesis to be a deeper level of overall crafting, tying it into Fleet Carriers, mining, market/trading, and base building would go a long way to meet that. However, digging and otherwise messing with planetary surfaces would be very difficult to incorporate into an online multiplayer game for many different reasons. I've thought about a V3 planetary system where all the planets are shrunk by 10% circumference and the 10% is regenerated back as a voxel layer using the already established height maps, also making all asteroids properly mine-able, but while that all sounds great to me, I know the first contest would likely be to be able to carve a multitude of a certain reproductive appendage to be visible from orbit. Or maybe someone can just find a planet called 'Johnson' and just keep it all there? I don't know, but it would still be very cool IMO.

Well, you know, at some point you have to acknowledge and reward such behavior from the devs. All things can't be done at once and it isn't like the expansion method of raising dev funds for developing future features for the game wasn't part of the original deal.

Are you suggesting a threesome?
Off to the naughty corner with you..

No, I don't. I'll reward the devs when they give me something I like, and not a moment sooner. Next you'll be telling me to buy jpgs from CIG.

The Kickstarter is over, my friend. These days I buy products I want, not promises I hope for.
Chill, what I said pretty much aligns with what you're saying already. You do realize we're talking about a $15 expansion, not a $45,000 Legatus pack, right?

Fast forward another week.. carrier interiors are ship interiors for carriers, and personally the only feature i've recevied from the odd expansion.

They're really good too.

I really like the fantasy of kicking off supercruise assist from the same command chair in our ships and using a modified version of the fss, or the ui panels on foot etc. Quite fine getting ripped back to the chair for interdictions just like the carrier jump scenario, or just block them if you're in supercruise assist and let them instantly catch up when you get back to your seat or something.

So i'm also playing subnautica below zero with my boy atm. Its a bit more accessible (or im willing to look up spoilers) more than the first game, so hopefully will revisit the first..

But i just today built my first addon for the sea truck... to go from seat only to walkable interior was such a joyous experience.

In below zero, you start off with just a pilot seat experience, but then go to full interiors as you unlock and build different modules for it. To finally get out of my seat, and then have the growing utility of the truck becoming a full mobile base is so satisfying. It works, its undeniable, it would be so good in elite too.

Well, its unlikely going to happen here, but for anyone who hasn't played below zero, recommended.. its a great experience.

They must have had 50000 developers working on this game.

Yes, Subnautica is an incredible game. I played it non-stop then bought Below Zero and played that non-stop until I finished it. What a trip!!

Yeah. Amazing. Frontier should have bought them up and turned it into the elite team.

So as of yesterday, i'm at the point where i've discovered and made 3 of the module types, just the sleeper to go. Also have the depth module upgrade so looking around very excitedly looking for the sleeper parts. Currently exploring the huge wreck under the lily pads.. amazing.

Speaking of, that model would have been perfect for elite to have copied. All you get is audio logs, crafting materials, and the memory. Its great.

And every few minutes of using sea truck i keep thinking about elite.. then realising this game is just in a different league, there's no way frontier could even fathom a modular space ship.. beyond a text box and stats... The idea of remote exploring in a ship of some kind, cockpits.. its very similar.

It's just that you can't scale that incredible ecosystem up to 400 billion star systems. It's so good because it's carefully crafted and each species is integrated with the others. That said, there's plenty Frontier could add if that was their focus.

The other thing about Subnautica is that there's mystery and danger when exploring. At least there is in the first game, the second game less so. Crafting that atmosphere is not easy.

I want a picture of this sea truck you keep talking about.

As for Subnautica, I need to get back and finish that game someday! Same goes for RDR2 and countless others. I'll give Elite credit in this regard - we all spend more time wishing Elite was more like these other games than actually playing these other games, so Elite must have some sort of magic that keeps us under its spell!
