On-foot PvP loadouts?

Hi commanders soldiers,

After doing some medium ground CZs, with only G3 gear without mods, I came to these conclusions:
  • Fighting NPC's is way too easy, any G5 + mods loadout would do, seriously.
  • It would be a whole different story against experienced players who would use jump assist continuously, run/dodge left and right, etc...and not let you take a breather.
  • Rather than focusing on the ultimate PvE build, one should stick to a PvP build that will still shred these poor NPCs. The limiting factor in PvE is usually to wait for NPCs to spawn, anyway.

Consequently:
  • The highly popular plasma guns, due to their super low "bullet" speed, would be useless for PvP (exception for the shotgun at close range, maybe).
  • A hit-scan weapon is a must, and should ideally be efficient against shield, and efficient enough against armor.
  • A slower weapon can still use the element of surprise to land a few shots, but no more than a few shots.
  • Like for space PvP, one must squeeze any advantage w.r.t. engineered mods, and leave aside any comfort options due to limited slots.

My thoughts on an efficient PvP loadout:

The suit(s):

Dominator
with...:
  • Combat movement speed, to increase mobility while aiming (ADS).
  • Improved jump assist, because you will be vulnerable as soon as you head to and touch the ground.
  • Damage resistance, for obvious reasons.
  • Night vision if the CZ is in the dark, otherwise faster shield regen (but that would require two suits).

...or maybe an Artemis, if you feel confident in dodging shots, so you can take advantage of an even longer jump assist duration...but the biggest drawback is then to be limited to only one primary...

Primary 1:

Aphelion
laser rifle with:
  • Scope + increased headshot damage, to increase the likelihood of inflicting real damage once the shield of your target is down.
  • Stowed reloading + faster handling, to speed up swapping and aiming, and save time on reloading.

Primary 2:

L-6
rocket launcher, for the element of surprise, or when your target is heading to the ground...:
  • Stowed reloading + faster handling.
  • Increased magazine size + faster reload.

...or Intimidator shotgun, if you feel like you can stick to your target at close range:
  • Stowed reloading + faster reload.
  • Increased magazine size.
  • Scope, which makes a tighter pellet spread, because you might not be able to stick that close to your target.

...or, another Aphelion, so you can quickly reload (whether you are out of ammo, or just want to get back to a full magazine)?

Secondary:

P-15
kinetic pistol, for when your target's shield is down:
  • Stowed reloading + faster handling.
  • Stability, because the recoil is definitely something hard to counter when firing like crazy at your target.
  • Increased headshot damage, although hard to nail, when you do (whether by chance or skill), it will hurt A LOT.

And of course, memorize where the ammo boxes/electric plugs are, and rearm/recharge every time you get the opportunity, and not in the middle of the fight.

Any experience on-foot PvPeers out there that could comment, share their experience, and thoughts?

Missed improved battery capacity. Especially important in long engagements when recharges are restricted or not available.
Does this ever happen at ground CZs?
Ate the settlements sometimes disabled / no power, maybe?
Or some settlements don't have suit charging plugs?

Sometimes recharge points may not be active or recharge packs already used. Plus, do you want to stand exposed whilst recharging?

Oh my, I did not know. Thought these are always available :-/

For sure nobody wants to be exposed (shame that settlements don't have charging booths with an "occupied" sign ;)), but is it really worth sacrificing a slot?

CZ on foot NPCs are easier than the real world ones - although they aren’t exactly the most taxing either.

I’ve not done any organised PvP so can’t comment of that. But when in Open I see any other CMDR in my instance as a threat. While I have gone loud from time to time, mostly I use stealth and take them out before they know I’m there.

An Executioner and Tormentor wearing a Maverick suit was my go-to loadout. I don’t remember the engineering as I’ve done a character reset since my last elimination.

Do Audio masking, Noise suppressor and Quieter footsteps have an effect in PvP?
Like are the shots silent, and the footsteps less audible?

Yes, because I would absolutely be camping those charging spots.
Mmmh...not that I do not trust you, but do people really do that?

When you camp, you don't kill NPC's (unless some pass by the spot) so you don't score. This would be purely to kill players, which is not what most would participate in a CZ for.

Also, there are multiple plugs and unless you can predict a player's movement, you might not camp at the right spot?

G3 is easily capable of dealing with NPCs. When on foot PvP does happen (very rarely) it tends to focus on finding the opposing Cmdr, the NPCs are secondary.
Silenced kit is good for looting a live settlement but near useless in tha CZ where you're trying to pick out one shot among many.
Using a charge port is a death sentence, and not all layouts have powerpacks that are easily accessible. That's a serious problem for a Dominator, though I usually use a Maverick and have been known to cut my way into a locked room to reach a box of packs. This also allows me to use routes that an opposing Cmdr assumes are locked off.
NV is a must, using a torch is a death sentence vs a Cmdr.
Jumping about will highlight you, both for the Cmdr and the NPCs. Novice snipers will camp the highest point, check if there's anyone on top of a building or tower.
If I've brought an SRV I can park it hidden away and use that to top up my supplies whilst an opponent wil be stuck with the dwindling supplies in the settlement.

The chance of on foot organic PvP is rather low. If you are part of a group, you may decide to split into two teams for pre-arranged PvP. In that situation there will probably be ground rules to make a more interesting game, e.g. G1 gear only, or G3 only with no mods.

If you do encounter another CMDR, you can always recall your ship and nuke him from orbit with dumbfires. It's the only way to be sure.

Recalling your ship is a good way to see if they’re hostile.

A hostile CMDR will almost always try to get in a good position to take you out when you get out of your ship - an Executioner to the back of the head works well for them.

If someone runs I’ll try system chat.

Usually when a war becomes popular for some reason, eg. the recent IMP/Fed war.

Thanks for sharing. Alright, I am convinced, extra battery capacity it is, which I will add instead of Improved jump assist.

Shoot, I did not think of using an arc cutter to access locked rooms...but is it really worth giving up on another primary weapon?

Any thoughts on the current weapon loadout PvP metas?
Am I correct with the combinations I mentioned? I am happy to be wrong and learn about it before I start upgrading my gear and making a big mistake (since once can't remove existing mods from gear)!

Only the individual Cmdr can answer that for themselves, a lot of Cmdrs swear by the dominator, but it costs them in flexibility, mobility and endurance.
Regarding weapons, I usually use an AR 50 and Tormentor, for flexibility; whether my opponent(s) prefer long range or short range I have the option to switch on them to put them at a disadvantage.

Is a G5 AR-50 good enough vs shield in PvP (unlike PvE, a player would not stand still while under fire...)?

Saying that because, from my experience at a medium CZ, it would take the entire magazine of a G3 to go through the shield.
