Modes Open Mode Balancing Proposal... Open PvE

Frontier didn't "groom" anything.

People made assumptions about the game because they seen an "MMO" tag on it.

Frontier have encouraged player groups through firstly implementing player factions, then giving their preferred ones bespoke or unique content, resulting in them clamouring with 'look at me' hijinx to try to get into that circle, culminating in actually implementing one as a powerplay faction. (And thats without going deeper into how powerplay added to this).

As someone who is predominantly now a lone wolf player, if you cant see the implementation of squadrons as the next step in this, youve got some serious head in sand going on.

Player Factions = NPCs someone got to name. Big whoop, not exactly game changing and available to be supported / attacked in Solo
Power Play = A meagre NPC war system we can join and grind in for no real reason whatsoever - also available in Solo
Squadrons = A system that's only got a name and not any core features. The community is having to tell FD what to do with it (but you can have a Squadron of 1, whoopee! /s).

How is any of this "MMO" worthy?
"Group" features you don't need other players for and can use alone, how is this "encouraged player groups"?

And how does it help with "leadership" - because gamers will do what they want to do, regardless. I believe the expression is "herding cats".
Plus you don't need these half hearted features to organise anything in game, Hutton Truckers seem to have managed (to name but 1 group that are doing well).

Facebook / Reddit has done more for social interactions and groups in the game than Frontier has.

I actually agree and I've told Algo and others multiple times to organize a battle, set one up. Get a real PVP war going. But unlike you all they do is sit and complain that someone will get them from PG and Solo. Kudo's to you and those who had your war.

Cheers, Mouse. Appreciate that.

To the folks joking about ‘leadership’ in Elite: you’d be surprised what you can accomplish when you put your neck out there. People can really surprise you when you encourage them.

Basically saying ‘yes’ where far too many say ‘no.’

The thing about leadership is, those who feel they've got it often are useless at it and those who refuse it are often most qualified. Being a leader or having leadership is a burden. People who recognize this are good leaders. Good leaders are often humble people with good organisational skills. Bad leaders are often egos who just like the idea of being leader and are outspoken.

All of this of course subject to: in my humble opinion and experiences.

Just before I address this point, didn't get a chance to say I'm glad you had a great event. I like to read great stories about people's fun and games.

Now to your point here, we seem to have the same idea but from different ends.
You say it is amazing what people can do if you encourage them, and I agree. But my post #313 is also valid.
With a section of people coming to social media and the forums bragging about forcing negative experiences on people, it puts people off.

Can't emphasize this enough, it's the absolute truth.

The reason those who refuse "power and control" are the most effective because they respect and acknowledge the possibility of corruption that the power brings. They're careful.
The ones who seek out power and control most oftentimes do not respect or acknowledge and usually succumb to it, ego blinding their ability to see their own mistakes. Usually they're careless.

No doubt. I’ve had my hand in that too, and I’m not proud of it. I’m trying to be better and like to think I have a decent understanding of my short comings - much as a man can, anyway.

Tell you what - gonna switch gears here a second. Dunno if you saw Lehman’s offer to Mouse to wing up sometime? I think more of us should try playing in Open together. I’m down to do whatever, if you or anyone else is interested.

no gank I mean itz

I did see the offer, it completely ignored the fact that Mouse has made it clear (more than once) that for personal reasons she cannot play open mode.

Which is something else that people need to keep in mind, some people are not able to play in really busy / competetive environments.
Some due to computer / console hardware, some for personal reasons and some "just because".

I personally use all the modes for one reason or another - at the moment I'm using open to prove a point.
I'd like to help try and improve public perception of open mode, but we need some folks stop working so hard to trash it first.

With this, I agree.

And from my personal experience with Mr Sobanii, I have found him to be an excellent leader.

He keeps his band of scallywags together with clear goals, in both game objectives and providing fun gametime. He lead them against insurmountable odds to win their home system. He listens to others and takes their counsel carefully when making decisions.

No, I'm not a member of Newton's Fusiliers, nor do I have much interest in this thread in general. But I do like to give credit where it's well deserved.

And on that note, I've noticed a distinct change in tone between you all over the last few posts - it's good to see :)

I did not know Mouse had made it clear Open is a no go for them. Fair enough.

To your last part, how about you and me work together on that? Figure there's been plenty of talking - let's jump in our ships and actually play the game instead.

Oh jeeze, Marra. Thank you so much. :)

Well I'm away from tomorrow for a week, but when I get back (from the 21st on) pm some dates / times and a plan, and I'm there.

Also do you use the in game voice or Discord / TS ? (I hate typing when in a game)

You're completely missing the point. No one gives a crap if someone randomly gets blown up, or someone explores in Open.

We're talking about Targetted Area's of attack from other player groups where lots of guys would be hanging around.

Check this out, everyone fought against each other. Had a great time. And even understood powerplay was the consensual PVP program it was made to be.

This stuff doesnt happen all the time. So it was nice to see.

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDangerous/comments/8iob4t/proof_powerplay_isnt_dead_hr_4720_cycle_153/

Anyways, this is what we are talking about balancing. Most of the time, one side continues with the options that are given to them. Everyone ends up hauling in private and solo. This time people stayed out and interacted with each other. And had a great time.

Take that option away. And powerplay will grow. Just for the simple fact people have a chance to face their enemies.

Same with BGS Player groups. That part of the game would grow as well. At the end of the day its player group vs player group. It doesnt matter if its Powerplay or BGS Faction stuff. Keep it all on the same field.

That looks absolutely fabulous.

We had a conflict ourselves just a couple weeks ago that was completely in Open. Dozens of Commanders were battling over our home system and attacking our enemies' system (perhaps you heard about the most recent Ray Gateway Lockdown?). Some folks might've wanted to hit BgS from behind Private and Solo, but leadership banded together and made sure everyone played honorably.

And guess what? No salt and 'good game' all around after it was over. I can say with 100% certainty it's because of our commitment to fighting it out in Open!

And why wasn't this advertised around the forums? You folks need to fight against the bad image that the bad PVP people create for you. Show the community fun stuff PVP folks do...and you might not have such an uphill battle with population. Learn to play the meta game and help yourselves out.

No rush! That sounds good.

Yes, I've got Discord. Very much prefer voice chat over text chat.

Too busy playing the game to bother with advertising it here around the forums. Besides, we didn't plan our event - it grew naturally out of game play.

Word of mouth is more effective in the end, too.

Ding ding ding, a winner we have :)

Along the same lines, you know how Ed always gets targetted during his live streams? He goes in open and sure enough within minutes he is facing interdictions, followed by a rebuy screen. And some of the PvPers chuckle. As if thousands of potential players seeing Ed exit the game in disgust after venturing in Open is helping their cause.

If I were a PvPer I'd have formed an Ed's Private Babysitter Escort and protect the man live on stream. Instead of seeing Ed deflated short lived open adventure, you would see him whooping while the baddies are taken out. You would see the fun in coordinating with other players. The potential players might want a piece of that action.

On second thought: fighting against a bad image is a service, not a requirement if that bad image is based on stereotypes.

Don't complain when good things happen and no one hears about it then. The gankers and griefers control PVP headlines...until something else does...no one is going to care about PVP...

I don't because I know good things happen all the time and word always gets around. Been the story of me and my wing for the past year, believe it or not.

Let the gankers and griefers control the headlines! That's not where the real work happens anyway.

I'll give you guys a planet sized amount of credit by actually taking initiative. Too often here I see people looking at Frontier to solve their problems while they themselves sit back or are part of the problem they are complaining about. And we all know the success rate on that one.
