Open: Why?

On the contrary.

My opinion, like it or not ... but you did ask for it ("lol") , is that if you're playing in Solo then you are essentially offline and should have no ability to impact the shared experience enjoyed by those playing in Open.
Yeah, but why? This is the specific statement that I am referring to. This opinion that the BGS should be a luxury limited to open players only. The reason to take issue with this is because....?

The BGS adds value to everyone's game, open or solo, and this opinion implies that solo players are not entitled to it. You claim this has nothing to do with PVP but that's the one and only difference.

The answer to to your question is nobody cares. People might care in general and yes there are those who think everyone should play in open, but nobody cares if YOU play in open or not. Do what you want. Luckily the people who made the game gave us multiple options.

Well that's an utterly invaluable response. This isn't about choosing whether or not I feel like it. Its about those who think people SHOULD.
As opposed to starting a thread with a clickbait title asking questions when you already have your mind made up about the answer so you can be all outraged? That's valuable. Valuable thread. No, really. Continue on.

Why do you keep mentioning PVP? I think you may have a pre-defined opinion that you're just looking to reiterate here, rather than read, listen to and comprehend the opinions of others, which is what I thought the intention of the original post was, and why I offered mine.

In any case I will try to be clearer: I don't think players in solo should be able to impact the shared experience, purely because, in my opinion, the nature of solo is "offline" - the antithesis of a game where players share an experience online, and collaborate on impacting key facets of the games features, functions and shared data.

But solo is not offline and the only difference is the pvp aspect.

That's why I keep mentioning it. Because that is the one and only reason why there should ever be a difference.

He/she/they seems really upset about it for not caring.
My prefered pronouns are it/xit/xorg. ;P

Not upset, just pointing out that it's not that people want you personally to play in open and that their opinions aint the ones that matter. Perhaps I should have used a smiley face or something. I do however feel like there's a lot of deliberate provocation in this forum. Like if I start a thread "The ADS: Worst thing ever?", I know I'm gonna create a whole load of cheeto-rage and the same old arguments will get pulled out over and over again.

I know their opinions don't matter.

I like to hear their pathetic attempts to justify it though.

Influencing a system in a shared economy IS PvP (indirect). "My" squadron is currently influencing a system, that is hold by another PMF. Ask them if we're doing PvP or not. I'm pretty sure, THEY feel the PvP-Nature of BGS. ;)

"Why?"

That was the response I got from a guy I left floating in space with his thrusters shot out, after I stole twenty of his void opals.

My response was "I did ask for ten originally - you're also able to ask why from your cockpit, not an escape capsule..."

Let me be absolutely clear:

I love people who apply a little bit of honorable behavior to piracy.

Its the guys who go "lol just farming rebuys" who are utterly braindead to me. They gain nothing and my rebuy was nothing but a waste of 10 minutes of my life.

At least if the game offered some kind of pvp rewards that would make sense.

No it's not offline, but you asked for an opinion and the one I offered was "I don't think players in solo should be able to impact the shared experience"

The key words and phrases in my opinion being "I don't think" and "should".

opinion
noun
1.a view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

You get Arx if you have a rebuy?

opinion
not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.
Which means it's subject to being considered unfounded and/or invalid.

My opinion that your opinion is wrong can be changed by providing an explanation for the idea that solo players shouldn't be entitled to an aspect of the game that has never been intended to be subject to player interaction in the first place.

And since you claim it's not about player interaction then your opinion has no reason to exist, because if that were true then solo doesn't matter.

Wow, a noble pirate :D

Give you credit though, the last umm pirate (yes I used the term is some trepidation) that tried that on me wasn't that successful. After I had the audacity to turn and fight he started to complain that since he is a PIRATE, then I am compelled to give him some cargo, that is the way the game is played and I was playing it wrong. Whilst he was busily typing this tirade into chat , it gave me a chance to have a peek at his fit out in the FdL - yep not a cargo rack to be seen. When I politely asked him just how he was going to retrieve this cargo he is demanding, he fired off a load of abuse and initiated his insta-cloaking device.

This did happen a while ago, but it still gives me a chuckle when remembering it :D
