Open: Why?

Wow, a noble pirate :D

Give you credit though, the last umm pirate (yes I used the term is some trepidation) that tried that on me wasn't that successful. After I had the audacity to turn and fight he started to complain that since he is a PIRATE, then I am compelled to give him some cargo, that is the way the game is played and I was playing it wrong. Whilst he was busily typing this tirade into chat , it gave me a chance to have a peek at his fit out in the FdL - yep not a cargo rack to be seen. When I politely asked him just how he was going to retrieve this cargo he is demanding, he fired off a load of abuse and initiated his insta-cloaking device.

This did happen a while ago, but it still gives me a chuckle when remembering it :D
:ROFLMAO:

Yeah, but there are those who disagree and think there shouldn't even be a solo mode, or that it should be significantly removed from open.

I am after their logic, since negatively interacting with other players provides absolutely no benefit to anyone on either side other than ego stroking. There's nothing for the attacker, and nothing for the victim, and both people just lose time.

Neither side will see any actual benefit from forcing anyone into open. So why do they insist? "But muh piracy gameplay!"

What are you getting from a player you can't pirate from NPCs lol slightly more difficulty? Not when the typical victim is no better armed or armed than an NPC.

Some of us want it Dangerous 24/7. It fun to feel the blood race, the adrenalin rush, the fumble of controls while you spin helplessly in space,

Too bad the devs literally said that's not what the title means.

One of these days I'll find that video and bookmark it so I don't need to hunt it down to reference it.

There's more to player interaction than PVP, but I don't think I can state my answer to "Why" any clearer than I already have. To be honest, I'm not looking for an argument, and I get the impression you're just looking for an opportunity to air and re-air your opinion, and are not really interested in listening to those of others. So I will leave you to it: In Solo

Yup...
So why raising the question beforehand, if you already made your choice? Trolling?

What aspect of player interaction involving the bgs is required to affect the bgs other than pvp?

Because having a conversation and working together can be done in private groups.

Why does this private group or solo player need to be excluded from the bgs?

In case you overread this:

Influencing a system in a shared economy IS PvP (indirect). "My" squadron is currently influencing a system, that is hold by another PMF. Ask them if we're doing PvP or not. I'm pretty sure, THEY feel the PvP-Nature of BGS. ;)

The best part about open play, or any of the other modes, is they’re entirely optional.

Pick one that suits your style, and choose that.

Or don’t, and make a thread about how much you don’t like it, I guess. Whatever you wanna do, OP.

Feel free to quote the part where I said I don't like open in and of itself.

Then stop influencing systems via bgs. Otherwise you ARE involved in pvp.
Furthermore:
If you think you aren't influencing the game of others:

Ask the PowerPlayers, how "Renegades" and "5c" are interfering with their political struggle, because they "hide" in PG/Solo.
At least "we" are asking the PP-Fellows, if we interfere with their PP if we expand in another system and act accordingly.

THAT's cooperative multiplay.

Pretty much this right here.

To those players who think people should play in open: What incentive do I have to do so?

If I have no interest in other players (or proving anything) outside of friends - why should I?

It's "more dangerous"? Why because I am subject to wasting 10 minutes on a rebuy, including the time to make the credits? That's not fun or engaging gameplay. Its a sigh, one click, and I make a few jumps back to where I was. Even if the fight isn't utterly one sided its still just a waste of time as neither commander gains anything of value from it, aside from salt mining (mind you, I used to engage in that myself).

So why? The game gives no compelling reason to care about open.

Your post drips of acrimony.

Gosh, this places is full of idiots these days. Can't even remember their OPs.

Yeah, I was messing around in the BGS of a system lately, just running missions in open, then out of nowhere I'm seeing 180-odd bounties per day being dropped. I've seen one guy in open in the last fortnight, and they were harmless-ranked so I know it ain't them.

I mean, if I was unknowingly messing with a player group's turf then I'd be open to talk to them, even go off elsewhere and leave them alone if they actually asked, but nobody's even thought to show their face.
