Open: Why?

To those players who think people should play in open: What incentive do I have to do so?

If I have no interest in other players (or proving anything) outside of friends - why should I?

It's "more dangerous"? Why because I am subject to wasting 10 minutes on a rebuy, including the time to make the credits? That's not fun or engaging gameplay. Its a sigh, one click, and I make a few jumps back to where I was. Even if the fight isn't utterly one sided its still just a waste of time as neither commander gains anything of value from it, aside from salt mining (mind you, I used to engage in that myself).

So why? The game gives no compelling reason to care about open.

Open play is no different than solo or groups - same scenarios, gameplay, and missions without the possibility of meeting other players that you have in Open which I prefer for just that reason - which actually is the only difference between all 3 modes.

I want you to play in the mode you like. (y)

(I also want you to purchase lots of Arx).
I have spent tons on paint lmao.

Thats what I mean.

But ther's a certain subgroup who thinks everyone should be forced into open and I suspect most of them are folks who love to waste other player's time.

You shouldn't.
Yeah, but there are those who disagree and think there shouldn't even be a solo mode, or that it should be significantly removed from open.

I am after their logic, since negatively interacting with other players provides absolutely no benefit to anyone on either side other than ego stroking. There's nothing for the attacker, and nothing for the victim, and both people just lose time.

Neither side will see any actual benefit from forcing anyone into open. So why do they insist? "But muh piracy gameplay!"

What are you getting from a player you can't pirate from NPCs lol slightly more difficulty? Not when the typical victim is no better armed or armed than an NPC.

My point is there isn't even anything valuable for these demands to the players on that side of the argument other than their own egos.

I've been on that side. If there's no reward other than e-peen then its a waste of time.

I guess its just a good thing for me that fdev doesn't value their feelings as much as they do.

For me Open means the Elite Universe feels more alive. I might run into a friendly face at an engineer base or rare commodity location (and get or give help with cigars, brandy, meta alloys, etc). I might fly by and exchange a friendly "07" in an out-of-the-way system. At guardian sites, there's often commanders helping unlock blueprints with strangers. Flying back into the bubble from a long exploration trip is far more exciting in open. I've outrun a griefer or two. I've been shot down by a few. For me Open is more fun.

It doesn't matter. They keep on demanding as long as they think someone gets irritated by the demands.

Because you can. That's it. That's the point

Don't go then. Easy

That depends on what neighborhood you go to. Like in IRL, you could be in the best place in the world, but just one block over it's like Iraq with drive bys and everything.

The reason is choice. If you can't figure it out for yourself, then stick to solo
Well that's an utterly invaluable response. This isn't about choosing whether or not I feel like it. Its about those who think people SHOULD.
Better?

Ideally, I don't think there should be a(n online) Solo mode, but there is such a mode and it's usable by anyone. So, if it suits one's desired play better, then it's what should be used.
