One particular thing i like about the asp is the ease of recalling your ship to a rough/rocky planet, compared to the Conda which struggles at times to find a suitable landing site due to its size. The Asp is the ideal mat gatherer for me ;)

I've been known to armor up an Asp Explorer, throw some ADF and Mahon decals on it, and take it into conflict zones for the Workers of Lave Liberals.

I love my Asp X and I'm on my way back to a trip to Colonia, via Sag A and Beagle Point. Lots to see on the way...

A neutron star pair!

And here's what the paint looked like once I park in Colonia -

It was a nice trip but too hurried to get back to the bubble before 3.0 starts. Even so I got to see both the unexpected and things I wanted to see since I started playing. The credits are a nice bonus of course and I have a pth of bookmarked ELWs to record the journey, but I'll get the urge for a more leisurely trip in a few months.

Today I had my first stab at a little bit of exploration following the road to riches. I have to say, it was pretty relaxing to just jump from system to system and scan planets. And it net me 22 million for no effort on my part at all. I can see myself do it some more from time to time.
By the way, AspX is so much uglier than the FAS... :p

The FAS does what it is designed to do...aesthetics is not its strong suit. As for the ASP, the view for the explorer is unmatched and is the way to explore the ED galaxy.

And that, it does pretty damn well :) Can't wait to get back to it.

The ASP, however is a bliss for roaming around due to its jump range and decent tank capacity. The ability to travel 500+ ly without a tank stop is just amazing compared to what other ships can do. And yes, the visibility is great, but I don't like so much glass around me. Feels like sitting in a soap bubble, this just cannot be safe [uhh]

And I wish I could clean the windows :)

Very similar here.
Originally got mine for a limited purpose (some mining to unlock an engineer), with the intention to sell it immediately after the job. She worked quite nicely at everything, and I eventually changed my mind. Since then, PROUD MARY has seen quite a bit of engineering as well as trading, mining, smuggling, exploration, long range hauling and passenger spins. For a multirole vessel, she is now more than decently armed, can keep herself up very nicely (including the ability to one-shot smaller opponents), and also does not mind an occasional round of bounty hunting.

Being a dedicated combat pilot, I will certainly never have similar affection for her as for my Federal Assault Beast (which is even more ugly [big grin]), but she has become a trusty friend and gained a permanent place in my garage.

Below you see a photo I shot at the destination of a 6400 ly passenger mission to some nebula. Quite a spectacular sight with its intense blue glow.

Btw, at this point my passenger promised me a bonus for getting her home without being scanned. Using one or two smuggler's tricks, I did - but the bonus remained a promise. Never trust a rich tourist! ;)

That is a nice shot.. And sure i even get my paint for her lol... Weird! Major site visits for me her.. Jumping around in and out the bubble her, quick shot small ships for whatever reason her, planetary mission where done by her but only loose the place to my mission ship python!

Im back out in my Asp, now fully tweaked for max range and exploration.

Currently doing the Ram Ta quest before it gets binned, it has a timer on it for 3 weeks now so I guess come the beyond launch its gonna be over.

Its so easy to land with the view at the guardian ruins I can get in really close cutting down the srv time.

Im never getting rid of her.

Yes, I wish my Bobblehead came with a squeegee attachment to clear the window. And the glass surround seems less safe, yet more likely to lose the windshield in the Vulture.

Yes whats with all the dust on the screen, even after a full repair at a station.

If I put my car in the shop and they fix and valet it I wouldnt expect it to have dust all over the windows.

Also I want a Hula girl bobble head.

I don't know why people think the AspX is ugly, I think it's one of the best looking ships in the game. Nice angular lines that almost give it the feeling of wings, or a lifting body, with the fins adding to the "fighter" feel. Took this picture at a Class-O star system about 1000ly east of the bubble. Chromed paint looks so damn good on an AspX. =)

I outfited my AspX kinda sloppily after buying it, but now that I think about it, I fitted it with size 6 bi-weaves out of habit... And I don't really what for. I only use it as a pure exploration ship and expect to see no combat in it. What should I put there instead?
I currently use a size 5 fuel scoop, but maybe I could upgrade to a size 6 one?
For now it looks more or less like this: https://eddp.co/u/DJG33bb2
I engineered some things here and there like the FSD, but can't be bothered to put it in the shipyard, will most likely improve those things after 3.0 comes around anyway.

After a certain distance from inhabited space, there's no reason to have weapons or good shields. You stop seeing NPCs after a certain point and interdictions are easy to win anyway, chances are very good that any other player you meet by dumb luck is going to be another explorer just like you, and you should always be on top of your game when landing. The paper shields are just for stopping minor incidental hull damage from routine landings.

I used to combat my Asp and had class 6 bi weaves and engerneered power etc It gave a good punch. But now its all set for max range and pure exploration its so much more.

maxed out thrust to make sure I can leave any encounter when I want to.

Use 3D sheilds and D rate engineer anything you have max grade 5 FSD and the biggest scoop you can fit. Theres nothing like scooping at 600-700 a second.

500 ly out youll only usually see other explorers and nothing else, weapons are currently not really required. Interdictions are only a worry if made from an actual player. NPC interdictions should be only a submision if you want to kill them or play with them

Sure. I used to turn them all off on long range trips to get some more miles per gallon :)
Also, ever since I'm in the game one single NPC interdiction attempt was successful (I was AFK). Anyway, I'd never have the guts to travel inhabited space in a defenseless ship because... well you never know.

Thanks to the materials I gathered with good old PROUD MARY, I was yesterday able to get a real good DD5 roll for my Federal Assault Beast. Now, this thing is even more amazing (and still as ugly as she ever was [big grin])
