Planet Zoo: Twilight Pack arriving 18 Oct šŸ¦‡

Yeah I was confused about that, presumably having them in the base game makes no sense as an empty she'll so either a) the next pack is likely to be birds and introduce some free birds in the update or b) at least some of the existing exhibit animals can be in the bigger exhibits.

If b) then it would make sense that at least some of the safe ones that educators can now handle would be able to be in the large exhibit. I think this is likely because the free update has no given some exhibit species separate functionality when before they all behaved the same
People sleeping on the anniversary. Maybe a walkthrough sloth exhibit for the anniversary or something?

A halloween pack without these guys? Shame on you!

Lol just kidding, I'm really excited for this pack! I'm happy to have more seasonal decorations, and omg raccoons wombats and bats! I've really been looking forward to these guys. I was genuinely worried we might not get raccoons which really bummed me out since they're one of my favorite animals, and now here they are! I'm pretty indifferent about the fox and the skunk, but I'm sure those guys will find a place in my zoos as well.

I think this pack lacks that one big animal even tho you could argue the wombat kind of covers that. Maybe the Tasmanian devil in place of the fox or something changes the whole pack identity. I do believe there are different plans for the Tasmanian devil tho and frontier decides to add it in a future pack down the road. Don’t get me wrong these 4 animals are great and are welcome additions to the game for me but they are what I’d consider great filler animals. They aren’t going to catch your interest like a big cat or elephant would but still absolutely necessary to make a great zoo depending on region and whereabouts your zoo is. It also lacks the meta list animal as well but that can be nice once in awhile too. I’ll buy and enjoy the pack and will wait till I experience it first hand to judge it further. I am excited about it tho.

I don’t get why everyone is leaping to conclusions about what the bats mean in terms of ā€œwe will now never getā€ and ā€œthis rules outā€.

It seems to happen every time we get a new release but I’ll never understand it.
While I understand that the ā€œthis rules outā€ thing shouldn’t apply to all things in PZ, I do think that Frontier does every new mechanic/feature with the intentions of expanding them and their use. For example, does the lack of a Tasmanian Devil or any other terrestrial mammal in this DLC mean we’ll never get them? No, not at all. There’s plenty of other themes we could see them in.

But on the other hand, the walkthrough exhibit, the exhibit flying bat, and new ā€œeducators holding exhibit speciesā€ mechanic does likely tell us a lot about what Frontier has planned for future DLC and updates. It’s also really telling that the walkthrough exhibit will be base game and free to everyone, though literally no other animal but the DLC-locked bat can use it. This tells use that more species in the future will use this new, extremely large exhibit box (And when I say large, I mean massive, like the size of a large building. 20m L x 12m W x 8m H is incredibly big). Just like when we got burrows, diving mechanics, new color morphs, etc., these features will be expanded upon with time.

The fact that our first flying species is limited to this new large box also likely tells us about what kind of species Frontier has planned for the walkthrough exhibit box. And it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be small bugs or reptiles. Additionally, the ability for educators to now hold exhibit species on their shoulders also speaks volumes. Things are pointing in a direction, and everyone’s entitled to have their own feelings about it.

Personally, today’s announcement is really bittersweet for me. Any new support for PZ is great news, but I can’t lie that I had higher hopes for flying species in PZ. I’d even be more happy with animatronic/animated object-birds that you can place anywhere and hand build a ā€œhabitatā€ for than exhibit flying animals that can’t exist outside of a predefined box (that is incredibly large and clunky in nature). Aviaries vary greatly in size, style, and material in real-life zoos, but now likely every aviary in PZ will look the same. I personally find that pretty disenchanting.

I think the new exhibits are very similar to JWE2. In JWE2 the pterosaurs just fly from landing point to lannding point, which are all preset except the feeders, and we can decorate however we want.

Here it looks the same to me.
How exactly do the pterosaurs fly in JWE2? I've heard conflicting info: that they're completely free moving (like habitat animals in PZ) or that they live in bespoke exhibits - where you can add decorations as you like - but they fly to specific landing points and the feeders, meaning they're an advanced type of loop. Folks mention they can escape but all escaped animals move to a very limited animation; run away in random directions (the bin behavior is new).

It doesn't sound like the pterosaurs are as free flying as some people say? Regardless, it sounds like the bats and probalby other flying animals are going to be limited in their actions in some fashion.

They fly freerly inside of the aviaries, they are not in looped animations. The problem with them is that they are not able to do much, thus it almost looks like they are looped, even if they are not. They prefer to land on the birching points, as most flying animals in real life do. But if you dont have any landing points/rocks in the aviary, they land on the ground.

They also only move by fly only, they do not have walking on land animations, which further creates the illusion that they are looped, because all they basically do is feed, fly, rest.

They have aerial navigation, it's just extremely limited.
