Planet Zoo - Update 1.0.3

It's something we are continuing to investigate, but as in-game time has an effect on many other things in the game, it's not something we can quickly sort out. Don't worry, the team is looking at solutions continuously.

I fear that the comment by Bo has led some to believe that changes will be made in regards to the in-game time speed. There were no promises made that there will be changes made to the in-game time speed.

I do so hope that the dev's, and I believe they will, look for real issues caused by the time/speed or pace of the game and distinguish those issues (if there are any) from players bones of contention that are of the players own making. Please don't cave just to make certain extremely vocal groups happy. Don't allow a group of players to run a coup over your game.

Btw, the dev's are doing a fantastic job concentrating on the real issues and bugs in the game. Keep up the great work. :)

Starting with 1.03 now getting "about to mate" notifications for an animal even when the other partner is using contraception. Seems like an unnecessary notification.

The "about to inbreed" notification is a nice addition, helps catch situations that may have slipped through our careful screening process. ;)

I think this notification might be more intended for us to have a chance to catch their mating behavior. For that reason, I really like this addition.

Even if an animal is not on contraceptives, not every mating event results in a pregnancy. And we do get a notification when an animal is expecting offspring.

I totally disagree. I have 250 animals in my zoo. I don't want even more alerts, I want less. There is no point in having a mating alert for animals intentionally set on contraceptives. Only the opposite would make sense (no real wish): set alerts for certain animals you may not mate every time.

My game has crashed about 4 times now in the last 20 mins since this update and it's startin to 🤬 me off. Also I am constantly getting notifications for my animals when they're about to breed even for the animals WHO ARE ON CONTRACEPTIVES. "Animal is about to inbreed" (both on the pill), "Animal is about to mate" (one is on the pill, other is not), "Animal is about to mate" (both NOT on the pill). I just...* rubs temples * 😫 I do not want a pop-up every 10 seconds telling me my animals are about to breed. Especially now that it's telling me my animals on the damn pill are mating. Before the update they were just snuggling with each other and it seemed like animals on the pill avoided the breeding animation/event but now it's just.every.heckin.time. 🤬🤬🤬🤬

Thanks for the big update but this has just caused a mess at the same time. 😭

Then there is no reason for this alert to be there at all, since we do get the expects offspring alert, which apparently would be the only one of interest to you. Conclusion: all alerts/notifications should be individually selectable/deseletcable to make everybody happy.

Finally, what is the functional difference between "disable death" and "disable death from ageing"? If I tick the former but not the latter, will the animals still die of old age? Do I need to tick both to prevent all death?

I think "Disable Death" would be for anything that can kill your animal EXCEPT aging. So disease, hunger, injuries. "Disable Death From Ageing" is self explanatory. Although instead of dying from old age they must still be able to die from disease, hunger and injuries. Either way if you have only one ticked your animals are gonna die. So tick them both and see what happens. 🤔

Well, I'm not sure what to think. I've been waiting for a baby elephant or gorilla forever. Now my 173-year-old elephant is pregnant - and so are 2 other elephants - fast work :) Then I noticed that within 10 minutes of loading the game almost everything in my zoo became pregnant. I've put all the males on birth control (because there are fewer of them so easier to undo). I'm delighted that breeding is working again but someone must have put viagra in the water at my zoo with this update. My flamingo flock - all of who have been on birth control for a long time - are all mating, every few minutes I get a notice.

I'm in Sandbox mode and turned off animal welfare but I'm still getting starving animals in my safari habit with 6 species, 4 keepers and 2 keeper huts. I've turned on guest happiness for everything but I have a group of protesters - on a staff path. I've closed the zoo but they aren't leaving. I have "high amounts of litter" but can't see any and "multiple objects vandalised" but no way to know what is vandalized where. I'm glad I can now limit the number of guests as I reached 3700 before I decided to close the zoo until I can figure out some of this. Yeesh!

My lion cub matured in the time it took me to type this. That was way too fast! I just counted - 27 babies have been born in about a half an hour. I have a zoo with 4 habitats. I now have 93 animals, including the 27 that were just born. what?

I like that Frontier is fast to react to the needs of their customers but this feels way too rushed. When I list the animals in my zoo and try to sort by species I get an empty list. I noticed others mentioned that as well. Are you guys testing any of this or are we doing that for you here now?

Ok, I'm done my rant. I'm off to marvel at all my babies before they grow up! omg baby elephants are the cutest thing ever!

First of all, thank you a lot for your continously effort and bug fixing. Have not played and tested the patch yet, but I hope the franchise connection issue was solved too, cause this made the game nearly unplayable for me the last days or even weeks.

Facilities
  • Balanced water treatment facilities. They should now clean dirty water more effectively.
This one bugs me a bit.
As I mentioned in one of my posts I wish you can set the permanent optical cleanness of the water. For my crocodile enclosure I do not want crystal clear water, I want dirty swamplike water but the water treatment facilities will always clean the water, which is set to 40% while placed always up to 100% cleanness. But I want dirty water. ):

And still no fix for the missing indian peafowl animation displaying their tail feathers?

all the best for you. Let us know how large your rant is when you enter the stage of having 20 different species with 200 animals getting an alert every 20-30 seconds :p

Rant is ramping up. After posting this I found out that all 4 of my newly born lion cubs matured before I had a chance to see them as cubs. This is just ridiculous. The game is far worse that before this patch. I'm done until more gets fixed.

Hey, Frontier - quality control is important. You should look into that. I don't blame the devs, I'll bet they're sitting at their desks being whipped to produce faster. It's the ones holding the whips that I blame. I truly feel bad for Bo who is going to have to deal with all this with a smile. She's amazing but you can only dip so much in sugar. I think Planet Zoo will be a truly great game. Someday. But not today.

yeah its definitely the players fault, that animals take 10 minutes from being born to fighting their parents. totally idiot players, am i right?

I just had 4 lion cubs be born and reach maturity in about an hour real-time. I think the time actually sped up for me in sandbox mode after this patch.

Many thanks for the update. I still have an issue with the advanced move tool in that it jerks when moving up and down instead of moving smoothly on the construction items especially walls etc.

Like @KaoRu, my game has crashed about five times in the past 30 minutes. Either the game won't start (and eventually crashes), or I'm a couple of minutes into a game and it crashes. Super frustrating. For me (as least), this update has made the game less reliable.

How is it that patches can break things not even related to what was being patched? Did Planet Zoo inherit the spaghetti code from Elite: Dangerous? I guess FDev, as a whole, doesn't believe in quality control anymore.
