Planet Zoo: Wetlands Animal Pack arriving 12 April

So, the roster of this pack is like this, if I recall the animals correctly:

South America - 2: Capybara and Spectacled Caiman
Oceania - 1: Platypus
Asia - 3: Asian Small Claw Otter, Red Crowned Crane and Water Buffalo
Africa - 1: Nile Lechwe
Europe -1: Danube Crested Newt

Not bad at all, I love that the pack contain animals all over the world and hope this trend will continue in future packs.
The spectacled caiman reaches Mexico, so North America is also represented in the pack.

Anyway, on a less melodramatic note, I always find myself drawing the new animals to curb my hype.

I'm really not understanding the lechwe hate. Zoos typically massively overrepresent ungulates in real life, because they're (relatively) easy to care for (seriously, the addax, a desert dwelling animal that is critically endangered and can survive without water, can be plopped in a grassy paddock and successfully bred; I've witnessed it). The lechwe is actually a very good choice for this pack, as the Nile lechwe especially is endangered.

I could probably list of four more animal packs of ungulates alone that would make sense for this game.

Of course I agree about the caiman, but what can you do? Nearly every pack has something we didn't want at the time. Arctic wolf, llama, dingo, giant otter, proboscis monkey. I didn't want the North America Pack at all really, and Europe was fairly divisive on its own as well. I think Africa was the closest we've had to a universally loved pack, and even then there were some who rejected the penguin.

My local zoo has Asian water buffalo. Granted they are domestic, which I think the ones in-game should be, too (far, far more common), but it's nice that the roster is slowly reflecting zoos I see every day (Asian small-clawed otter is a gigantic step towards this - just need the siamang, Sumatran tiger, addax, and of course some NZ species).

But man oh man am I excited for this crane. I legitimately can't wait to do a little Japanese garden, with the cranes and macaques in the vicinity. It's too bad we're unlikely to ever get decorative koi fish or something.

I'm getting more and more excited about the platypus to be honest. I always thought that it's a nice and cute animal, but I would never use it because they are so uncommon in zoos outside Australia. But now that we've seen them in the trailer: they look so gorgeous and I really can't wait to build something for this animal! Really not my preferred choice before today, but now that we have them, I probably don't want to play Planet Zoo without having these guys anymore. :)

And I'll repeat myself: the Nile Lechwe is an awesome addition in my opinion. Really happy to see Frontier shine some light on lesser known species, even if it's another antelope which some people don't seem to like that much.

Anyway, on a less melodramatic note, I always find myself drawing the new animals to curb my hype.
I love how the buffalo looks completely out of its mind with the displaced eyes lol. Awesome drawings, reminds me of how great it is to now have several animals from all over the world in one pack!

Hayo Zookeepers!

We're glad you've had fun with our Educator video from the 1.9 update announcement! If you tuned in to our special livestream yesterday, you may have caught a few hints about what we've got for you today: join us as we celebrate water and how it's indispensable to life this spring! 🦦

Welcome 8 new animals from across the Wetlands with the new Planet Zoo: Wetlands Animal Pack, coming to you on 12 April alongside the free 1.9 update.

You're sure to have fun with none other than the loveable Capybara, the oddity that is the Platypus, the adorable Asian Small-Clawed Otter, the stealthy Spectacled Caiman, the sturdy Wild Water Buffalo, the elegant Red-Crowned Crane, and the agile Nile Lechwe! You can also entice guests with a new exhibit animal, the smallest of its species - the Danube Crested Newt!

You'll need some new enrichments to really help celebrate with your new animal friends. Your Capybaras will live their best life as they indulge in a soak with the new Hot Water Tap; spruce up your underwater areas with the new Small Underwater Feeder and Underwater Buoy, and have a splash in the sun with the new Natural Water Jet! 🌊

We'll also be bringing you a new timed scenario, this time set in the Pantanal, in Brazil. Help rescue animals who can't return to the wild find their forever home with this high welfare requirement challenge.

As mentioned in the update 1.9 announcement, our next free update will be bringing you some behavioural changes. The new bathing behaviours will also be enjoyed by the water-loving Capybara, and burrowing behaviours will be expanded to include the Platypus.

The Planet Zoo: Wetlands Animal Pack will be available for purchase for £7.99 ($9.99, 9.99€) on Steam on 12 April. Want to be one of the first to know as soon as the Pack releases? Then head over to Steam and wishlist now! Don't forget that you'll need to own Planet Zoo to be able to enjoy the Planet Zoo: Wetlands Animal Pack.

In the run-up to launch, the animals will be making an appearance on our social media feeds to bring you some self-care tips. Tune in to find out how they use the Wetlands to enrich their life, and for a closer look at what's to come!

Which animal will you build a habitat for first? Let us know below ⬇️
Initial thoughts: This is a very left field pack! I genuinely wasn't expecting this lineup! Capybaras are exciting, the platypus looks AMAZING, Asian small-clawed otters are a fantastic addition, spectacled caimans are an interesting choice, wild water buffalos are unexpected but welcome, red crowned cranes are exciting, Nile lechwe are also incredibly exciting (albeit also unexpected), and Danube crested newts look badass from the IRL images online!

Past that, the rest of Update 1.9 is very relaxing (in the best way possible), and with the whole hot spring/self-care theme, that only reinforces that feeling.

If the "Biome" theme continues, I'm highly interested in seeing how a Temperate Pack, a Desert Pack, a Tropical Pack, and a Grassland Pack would look!

I guess I just think this is the worst dlc so far.

Partly because the animal choices are AWFUL another caiman and a nile lechwe are brain dead choices (someone should be fired for having bad ideas).

And partly because the wetlands dlc is insanely dumb. South America still has no sloths, maned wolf, andean bear, howler monkeys...and Oceania still has no wombats, tasmanian devil, wallaby, tree kangaroos.

All the regions of the world that were underrepresented....still are.

But....we get a another buffalo. Right? And ANOTHER Caiman. So if the community doesn't know any better just spoon feed them whatever.

I used to give my dog ice cubes as a treat. She was too stupid to know any better.

(Some deeper meaning behind that too)

Give them WHATEVER tell them it's a treat. And if you're anything like my dog, you're not going to put any thought into it. 👍
Well, beggars can't be choosers. New content is new content, and if it looks good, I'm down with it. If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it. 🤷‍♂️ Door's that-a-way.

"If it looks good"

What are you talking about? They told you what to buy...the animals didn't matter to you. Whatever they gave you was what you were going to buy.

Imagine living in land of birds, but zoo games actively avoid having those.
They don't have to. Like, I've repeatedly mentioned that just a kiwi as a habitat animal, and a tuatara as an exhibit animal, would be legitimately enough to satisfy me. IMO both are still possible if they revisit Oceania, and the kiwi is higher on the wishlist than ever, so we'll see.
Y’all this caiman slander is hurting my feelings
To be fair, even when we were speculating on the caiman it wasn't exactly with joy and excitement. As has been pointed out, it wasn't on the meta-wishlist at all, so it's not as though it had any real fanbase. The choice feels weird and out of left field, especially with other crocodilians being more popular (Nile crocodile, for example).
