The original reminds me of an old Ford Aerostar minivan from the 80's, the new one reminds me of any of a myriad soccer mom minivans since then, so in that respect I think it's name is just fine.

So many people appear to be misunderstanding my whole thread... -_-

Comments about liking the design are not really anything to do with the thread. I'm not trying to convince FDEV to redesign or remove it. I just want a renaming, as it does not look like an adder from the older games. Please don't vote "no" because you like the ship, it wouldn't be going anywhere, and shouldn't, it's a good ship.

I get you OP, here are some names I came up with, not much creativity, though I wish we knew more about the ship manufacturers as a whole so we could come up with something a bit more constructive. Though here are my names :)

  • Shifter
  • Hefter
  • Bearer
  • Lugger
  • Lifter
  • Tugger (Don't Laugh! ;) )
  • Loader
  • Mover

During the development of Elite : Dangerous, the adder was featured in the newsletter.

The concept art of the Adder is better than the in-game ship. They could tweak the design.

I rather like the Zorgon Peterson Lugger actually. Nice one. Similar to the hauler, but seems "bigger".

However i still like Bully better.

My perspective is that for people like myself, who know the adder from previous games, this one will be a little irritation. Each time I see one, a part of my brain will think "that's not an adder, I don't care what it says".

Changing the name removes that little niggle, and people who are not familiar with the old games won't really care either way, as they don't know the ship, or name.

The way I see it, because it looks different to the adder, calling it an adder makes the game a little worse for people who do know the adder, and no difference for people who don't.
Calling it something else is the same for people who don't know the adder, and also not bad for people who do know it.

It's not win-win, but it's win-neutral to change the name.

If anyone out there is voting no can they please explain why? What does it harm? Why do you want it to be the adder, when it looks so different to the older adder. So we have any adder, even if it's not true to the original?

Well said. You have my support on this. Adder Mk2 would solve everyones problem and would cost barely any coding.

Ha ha :)

I like 'Gauler' because it looks like a hauler but is just ugly.

But seriously, the Adder was always an ugly design. Nobody is disputing that but it was a lovable ugly that you were fond of like an ugly dog. The volkswagon Beetle was ugly but it never stopped it becoming a classic. I feel the same way about the old Adder. FD missed the point here I feel.

Well, for what it's worth, I say it should be named as something else... maybe an Adder Mk2 at the very least if not just another version of the Hauler as some suggested. The original Adder, the concept for it in Elite Dangerous and the final result do not match even remotely in any way.

This is my first post, so hello everyone :)

I agree with this post. Lore wise, it would make more sense to call this an Adder MK2. I like the style of it though. I could see myself flying around in it.

Dev!!!! Please rename Adder - now ship in game - it;s not Adder - it's good ship - but please call him other name!

If the Hauler is basically the Zorgon Peterson Ford Transit, maybe we should name the new "Adder" after some other similar transport. Sprinter, perhaps? Silverado? I'm having trouble thinking of names of utility trucks and vans.

Since it's better armed, maybe Hummer?

I was really looking forward to seeing the Adder, but don't feel like I've seen it yet. The new design bears no resemblance to one of my favourite of the original designs. It's a shame, because it makes me actively resent the ship that we got instead, which I'd otherwise have enjoyed.

Most of the redesigns I'd give 10/10 to, but the new Adder scores 0/10 for me, because it's not an Adder... Probably not going to happen, but I agree with the OP and would like it to get a new name. Then down the road release something closer to the concepts we were shown.

The "Adder" was part of the original game back in 1983-4. The subjective reality of changing its name is preference by developer. This one pays homage to the original stories that were presented in this universe. In a cobra mk III in the original game I did shoot down quite a few of them. I keep hoping I will see a fer-da-lance or others of that homage and universe, even if they are derelicts of another time. I love what they did to the sidewinder and cobra. The original game kept with the snake names which the "Adder" is part of.

I propose Zorgon-Peterson Aardvark for the new name.
It's ok for a ship but it's just not an Adder. In the old concepts, it seemed to have a Zorgon-ish cockpit while keeping the iconic adder shape from the previous game.
If nothing else, add an actual Outworld workshops Adder. Actually, over all, I think it would be interesting if various older variants of the ships we have now are added, like a MgRath Cobra III, a Cobra I, an older Python, a Naval Asp, a Viper II, etc.

That sort of homage is why I DON'T want it to be the adder. The original adder looked nothing like the new one, unlike the very similar designs of the sidewinder and cobra, for example.

It looks like a more polished version of the concept art; I don't see any reason for it to be renamed.

It looks like someone took the concept art and went ''DIS NEED MORE RUBBERDUCKSHAPE AND ROUND STUFFS''
Not that I'm saying it's a bad design, but it's not an Adder, that's for sure.
