I completely understand but on Open mode you is fair game don't matter what you want.
This is the crux of it; why would anyone want to kill an unskilled, unprofitable target? Like hunting rabbits with an elephant gun. Only one reason.

Yeah me too. I could have logged but I thought "come on man that's not sporting, he want a game, give him game" he blew me to bits because he was a good pilot. I went back into training developed a tactic now I'm ready again. This whole talk of griefers is vastly overstated. I've played ED far too much since beta and I've been attacked unprovoked exactly once in all that time. (And I nearly got him, he had to run).
The people who complain about being forced to do PvP are the people *who don't like PvP*, how that can be even remotely difficult to understand for anyone, mystifies me.
I have a personal theory, hear me out here:
The real issue is that there are two distinct sub-categories of PvPers: those who enjoy the thrill of fighting against equals (ie. other similarly equipped, prepared, dedicated PvPers), and those who enjoy the thrill of the easy kill (ie. PvE equipped players with no interest in PvP).
The second group likes to claim (and even convince themselves) that they're in the first group, but in fact consists of players who enjoy PvP but are unable to compete in the first group and so have to look elsewhere for their kicks.
It's just a theory, but it explains a lot; the anger, the defensiveness and the general lack of ability to defend their position that the second group exhibits.
Many PvPers are quite happy to let others choose PvE because they're secure in themselves; it's only the PvPers that feel they have something to prove that want to force lesser opponents in to the space.

But I may not attack a Sidey for example, it depends. This is the crux of it; why would anyone want to kill an unskilled, unprofitable target? Like hunting rabbits with an elephant gun. Only one reason.
even in eve a game that actively encourages scamming shooting newbies in the starting system is harshly dealt with. Those that camp starter stations just to kill people that is on perhaps their first flight is simply griefers and there is no excuse.
Do you ever read the Missions board? Sometimes there is a mission to blow up Traders. This is why I will never venture into Open Play, regardless of how you define PvP. You say you're not in it to cause grief for others, yet in the same breath claim you'll pick the easy fights, or won't look for fair fights. It's still causing grief for the person you're attempting to pick a fight with. If they consent to it by playing in Open Mode, then they have nobody to blame but themselves. But I'll avoid Open Play because of griefers, or the alleged non-griefing PvP players such as yourself. Just looking for a little fun by picking on those weaker than yourself. Another ironic thing is people who are complaining there's nobody in Open Play... huh, with the OPs definition of PvP, is it any wonder many people will be playing Solo Mode.
now that is griefing. that poor newbie, probably flew right back to station chuffed to bits only to be blown away when the feds scanned him!We need some warzones tbh.
When I upgade my Viper to optimal standards I will hunt some pirates for my PvP fix.
I tried to pirate once. Interdicted a player on a SW. I had an eagle, on an anarchy sistem. Poor guy didn't have cargo. I ended up giving him 2 tons of stolen cargo I had to help him. I make a terrible pirate. Also if you are in an anarchy sistem, I think its safe to assume that you know the risks of being there.
On other systems there is the bounty mechanic.
It's called Solo mode.
Nope, in solo mode you don't meet other players. With the PvP toggle you can communicate but not attack..

Precisely why I have my cloaking device equipped. Which is to say I have a button bound that cuts my internet connection, and I go poof off your screen if you attack me... don't matter what you want.
For now that will suffice until they add a pvp toggle or a choice of an open server with pvp confined to conflict zones.
Obviously the toggle is the logical solution. The only people that would argue against it are the true griefers.
