General Please give the ability to purchase a fleet carrier as a squadron

I believe squadrons should have the ability to pool credits together to purchase a fleet carrier. This feature would be excellent for small private squadrons who play together. Fleet carriers were a feature my Squadron which consists of only 6 people were excited for as we all frequently fly together. We were looking forward to being able to all jump together and do activities. We are all casual players and together we had enough to buy and maintain a carrier which we intended to do as a squadron allowing the squadron commander to jump the carrier. However with the release of the carriers we were left unable to partake in the content. I feel that the option for Carriers to be able to be purchased as a squadron should have remained in the game to allow players such as myself and my squadmates who don't have the time to solo grind the money for a carrier and prefer to play as a wing to be able to use them. Thank you and I hope that one day this could be a feature.

Making Carriers available to individual players was absolutely the right decision (anyone who owns multiple ships should be able to buy a Carrier to put them in), but many of us were not expecting the complete removal of squadron ownership (a lot of us created one-player squadrons before they were released).

It might have been an attempt to prevent ownership disputes, as somebody has to decide when and where the Carrier jumps etc. This way, even if anyone in the squadron can dock, only one person owns it and can make those decisions.

With a Carrier, you can transfer funds between players (by manipulating buy/sell prices on something valuable, I keep using the same cache of LTD's for this). Without one, you could use the "everyone buys valauble stuff and ejects it for one guy to collect" method. When one account hits 5 billion and buys a Carrier, transferring funds for extra services and fuel becomes easier.

When one liquidate their personal FC, they get the majority of their investment back. What happens to the orgs members investments in a FC, when the org dissolves.

As Nadreck says - buying shouldn't be an issue even now - dump goods for the designated driver to pick up - 1B each should do it - then buy the FC.

Ideally we will at some stage get an option to delegate admin to Friends / Squadron (much like you can allow access at the moment) - and then you can co-own the FC. And then just hope you can trust your friends :)

I suppose squadron-based ownership would have caused further complications if several players, each with his own Carrier (and personal mini-squadron) want to get together and form a larger squadron (or join an existing one). We'd need the ability to be members of multiple squadrons at the same time, and there would still be a need to keep track of the individual ownership of multiple Carriers within a larger squadron.

But what would be the point? From what you say, the point would be having multiple people with the rights to jump the carrier and possibly for setting up the market/storage settings. An update for FCs could do a lot more than that just through permission managements.

I am hopeful Frontier will someday return to improve squadron content. I don't see the current FCs being changed to squadron-ownership, but I could definitely see bigger FCs or different content with much higher costs/upkeep/difficulty because they're meant for squadrons. I do fear that you'll see the non-squadron folks constantly whining to trivialize their costs/upkeep/difficulty so that squadron-content becomes soloable (and squadrons once again lose their content).

I think it's unlikely that we will get squadron-specific Carriers now. What would they offer, that the existing Carriers don't? Other than the ability to be supported by multiple players, the actual Carrier would be rather similar.

And arbitrarily increasing the total upkeep/grind for what is otherwise a rather similar asset is likely to produce howls of outrage from members of smallish squadrons, who would object to paying extra. We already have a situation where many individual players are much richer than many entire multiplayer squadrons.

Frontier could introduce the much-discussed "squadron bank" though. All members can pay in, but only those with suitable rank can use the cash, and perhaps only for specific purposes.

Much bigger storage. Squadron missions - imagine hauling missions that are 50k tons, or sending a FC into signal sources that would have appropriately sized combat, salvaging or rescue operations.

You can pool your credits right now and have a single commander within the squadron purchase the FC. It takes a little effort, and maybe the cooperation of someone else that has an FC, but you can load up a commander with credits.

And what stops you to do it right now?
It's no different tbh
Have 5 of those go mining and drop precious stuff worth of 1 billion each. The designated owner gets the carrier. And the other 5 just have to hope that the owner will play the game and not quit or throw a tantrum when thing doesnt go their way.

And having the Carriers as squadron assets could have some nasty follow-ups if the SQ leader stopped playing without passing over the leadership or started to remove players on a whim, even if the removed player contributed with the full amount needed for a carrier

More than squadrons stuff for carriers i would love to have them devise a way to have carrier permissions available multiplatform.
Having someone else piloting your carrier i dont think it will ever happen. Pretty much like multicrew does not allow one to take over the Helm position.

....

I admit that I operate a FC as a squadron asset - the squadron has an account with the squadron name that gives a squadron PG and feeding that account the credits let it buy a FC. It would have been nice though to have the FC more squadron-oriented (top ranks more control over the FC etc) but at the moment it is a squadron FC - just needing me to have an alt account to manage it.

Totally agree with CMDR PHOENIX_NZL. Ownership should rest with Squadron Leader full stop! This will enhance gameplay, role play & social nature of the game tremendously.

The risk then is the squadron leader quits/dies/whatever and there is a fleet carrier without nobody who can take it over. It would need at least a second person assigned to take over in case of such problems.

But, at the end of the day, you can have a squadron FC if you want. People who are squadron leaders surely have more than enough money to buy one, so they just buy one and call it the squadron FC. Job done.

If people want to pay the SL back for buying it, they can use the commodity market on the FC to enable them to sell to the FC at a high price, giving the owner a nice profit.
