All because we can't afford subscription to play Open and it can ruin my game play. It not Frontier fault. But console company fault.
I think this gives even more weight to the argument that gameplay options would be removed from existing non-Open players if PP went OO.
There are mitigation elements that could be done so as to avoid the removal of gameplay options such as rather than just making PP Open-Only, fragment the PP universe states as-follows:-
- PC Open Power Play
- XB1 Open Power Play
- PS4 Open Power Play
- Cross-Platform PG/Solo Power Play
There is no Cross-play thus Open Power Play would by necessity require the Power Play universe state to be fragmented in order to ensure the "hiding in other modes" (
or "on other platforms" - which is tantamount to the same thing) argument is addressed. It may also be necessary for the game to automatically dump/destroy any Open-Mode Power Play related cargo/data on switching to PG/Solo modes - with an appropriate warning to the player on mode switch.
Personally, I think FD would be better to invent new (perhaps Open-Only) PP-like mechanics based around Squadron-membership and explicit Squadron opt-in. Squadrons themselves are already platform-specific in nature thus fragmentation of the existing universe database should be unnecessary. Given some proponents claim Squadrons+BGS provide better gameplay than current PP I would have thought this latter approach would be the best way forward.
