Please reconsider fleet carriers for solo players.

to be honest if the concern is "exclusivity" OR if it is crowding in a persistent game OR even if it is just down to plausibility of numbers needed to fly a ship.... the minimum number to be able to feasibly expect to be able to fly a ship is imo likely to be closer to 100 than it is to 10.

if it is 10 then tbh the arguments against 10 are similar to the arguments against 1 having them.

remember an anaconda is is the size of an aircraft carrier so we are looking at a ship 10-20 times the size of that - maybe more - looking at that video....... which makes arguments against 1 player owning one the same as 10 players owning one.

Looks like only squadrons with 20.000+ members will be able to operate one. :D

I well imagine if solo players were allowed to own and run a carrier you'd see one of them ask why they can only have one.
And that won't happen with squadrons? The squadron leaders won't start asking for a fleet of fleet carriers when the squadron gets big? 500 players parking on a single small carrier like that, it makes just a little sense as having a shipyard for 30 ships for a single player.

Luckily squadrons max out at 500. ;)

500 is probably reasonable number to own a carrier, but then again you can't fit all those ships if everyone comes to the meetup. /shrugs/ Large squadrons might need multiple carriers...

What to do.. what to do...?

and here is the thing..... I bet any players now in a little guild of 10-20 players currently arguing about exclusivity and not all content is for all people and solo players wanting to have everything on a plate, would suddenly turn about if FD stated the minimum squadron size needed to qualify was 100 ACTIVE participants (so no sockpuppets).. and the fueling being balanced with logic of 1 group of 100 spending 1 hr each per jump collecting fuel. I try not to be a mean man, but i cant lie....... i would smile.

Where is the upkeep coming from all of a sudden? Nothing in the game has upkeep, you don't even have to pay parking tickets for having entire fleets docked at several stations.
Not sure, but I suspect there's some info about Cannon's mega ship, how it's maintained and fueled.

Maybe there won't be much or any upkeep per-se, but fuel most likely will be a thing.

Ships Can not Have Shipyard

The shipyard is the option on the menu of a station that allows you to buy and sell ships and also store ships if you have more than one, switch between the ships you own and ask for ship transfers from one station to another.

Explorer's Anchorage is a station in the center of the galaxy and does not have a shipyard.
Outpost does not have a shipyard.

The shipyard is unique to space stations.

It is almost certain that a Carrier will never have a shipyard. And that's all a single player needs to know
You can not store several of your ships in a Carrier. You can carry various other players, each on your ship.

All the rest of the mechanics will be equivalent to the current megaship mechanics. Do not fly supercruiser, jump from one place to another and get parked there in orbit until you decide to move it to another place.

They probably will but chances are those squadrons will have more than one solo member and will be justified in asking for more than one carrier.
Yeah. Also consider really large squadrons might want multiple carriers for multiple parallel activities. Like one sub-group of the squad needs the carrier for one mission and another for some other mission.

I played a game a few years ago similar to Elite and they released a carrier in their store for 60 quid. End result was every man and his dog flying one and all the other ships being squeezed out because everyone wanted to be the big cheese.
Sounds like the Anaconda issue in Elite. Everyone and his/her goldfish have an Anaconda.

Now there is still a lot of unknowns about carriers so we will have to see how they impact the game and who can run them but if they say with 100% assurance that solo players cant have one then i'll not lose any sleep over it.
Sure. I won't either. And I won't lose sleep if they can have one.

Ok. Sure. But then maybe they could have a sell function of the carrier.

My view is that the arguments against personally owned carriers aren't very strong.
Well the arguments for personally owned carriers aren't very strong either.
They are just as good as everyone should be king of the galaxy.

It's just a matter of personal preference. I don't want to play a game where everyone can own his personal megaship because it's against my vision of the galaxy.
Maybe someone else might see it completely differently which is just as valid.
I believe there is no right or wrong in this case.

Not only should they be restricted to squadrons, but they should be restricted to squadrons beyond a minimum size.
we cant do polls however i would be interested to know the size of peoples squadrons.

for the record mine is 5 - though technically not set up yet - however of the 5 i am the only person who really plays at the moment and i do not see that changing any time soon.

Wait? If Detention Centers are carriers and carriers can't have shipyards... I think last time I was detained that it had one?!

Until it isn't.

I agree that we probably won't ever be able to buy new ships on a carrier, I don't see why it would be impossible to store ships.

You don't know more about FCs in Elite than we do, why do some people feel like they know it all and can educate the rest of us? We all have no clue what FCs will be like, that's a fact.

You're absolutely right. And it's just a game after all. Just pixels on the screen.

The size of my squadron is two, but the other one is currently at Mount Kilimanjaro.

Currently 9. And I haven't played in months. Started up yesterday again.
