Pricing of fleet carrier: catering to small as well as large squadrons.

So you want a portable station then?
Shipyard, Commodities market, etc.
Don't you think this would render 98% of the rest of the game redundant? Forget having to dock at an actual station to do things, just remove commodities and replace them directly with credits, then let everyone change ship on the fly.
That would depend on cost of course. If there were a penalty to transactions on a fleet carrier, due to, say, the much smaller market place it could work. Not suggesting I'm a fan of this idea though.

I may choose to go on an exploration trip in my phantom. Then decide to change ships for a spot of Kraft mining. Then, jump into my I eagle for a nice canyon run. All this would require a small fleet carrier. Plus a spare ship holding many, many SRV,s.

And storage for all that mined ore, which we’re not likely to get.

Not a portable station, just a FC with a cut down version of SPS as stated. So perhaps storing commodities and some modules would be nice, repair, refuel, rearm. No need for a shipyard It’s effectively one already.
Ultimately Im not really fussed what they turn out to be.

So a portable station with no missions or contacts, which you can park out in the black for as long as you want, without any risk or danger, and no need to interact with the rest of the game at all?

Apologies if I sound like I'm attacking you, I just honestly don't understand why people think this is a good idea, so I'm trying to get a grip on it.

Agreed, I'm certain we won’t be allowed storage for such items I’m sure. But, it would be reasonable to sell ore at galactic average price, as from what I understand the FC will require mats in order to jump. Which would be a very similar process to selling.

Frontier like to cater to many differing play styles. Fleet carriers could potentially add another dimension to the game in the manner you suggested. Sounds good.

I can think of several ways of dealing with the "what do I do with this cargo?" problem:

1. FDev allows us to store cargo on the Carrier.

2. FDev allows us to install a commodities market on the Carrier (probably just to sell stuff, at below-market rates: the Gnosis has one IIRC).

3. You arrange your activities so that your mining comes last. Do your exploring first, then fill your mining ship and go home.

4. You use multiple accounts. If you have more than one CMDR on the Carrier, you mine with one and use the other for other activities.

We still don't know how Carriers will move, so it's still possible that they will have megaship "hyperdrives" (which, according to lore, can make long voyages through witchspace at slower speeds than the FSD: ship transfer is allegedly via megaship, and that's 6ly/min). If they do that, you could use an alt to send the Carrier back to the Bubble with a full mining ship aboard while you continue exploring.

At least 3 doesn't require FDev to give us anything more than a basic shipyard to swap ships, and 4 doesn't even need that.

I can’t believe I’m doing this again... we haven’t any idea what Frontier’s idea of a Carrier will be. Until there is some Official Word, I’m going for the cautious side, and suspect these will be as feature-packed as a car carrier, possibly with an optional heating and air conditioning system, maybe a half-beanbag ashtray. At least this way I can’t be disappointed.

I can’t believe it’s not butter!
We’ll have to wait and see for ourselves, Re-Carriers. I’m sure it’s going to be fantastic 😆.

I’d be happy to obtain a Fleet carrier if I can add an asteroid munching set of bull bars to the front and rename it ‘Mine Craft’.

Fleet carrier care kit, flight insurance, Commander passports... Let’s get set.... o7

I dont care what it costs. I care what you can do with it. How is the game loop supposed to look with it. What will be it's advantage over a station?
Anxthing else apart from being landable?
Will it have upkeep in form of metals?
Will we able to expand it?
Customize it?
Work for bonuses that fit our style of play?
How do we steer it?
Will we be able to crash it?
Will others be able to attack it?

Cost? Who cares. It will be expensive, then there will be a flood of snowflake tears on the forum, then every dad and his two sons will own one. So for me cost is tge least interesting aspect of all. By miles. Lightyears even.
Some of those questions are answered by Obsidian Ant in his latest youtube

I don't believe it can enter a planet or moon orbit or instance
I believe that the function of the carrier will be decided by the flavour of support ship that you purchase.
There will be a maintenance cost/effort
I don't think you can expand it, in terms of 'make it bigger'. Not sure what you mean there.
Whilst it is not clear if you would get bonuses for style of play, I have seen that you can choose the support ship for a particular occupation if you like. Piracy, exploration, search and rescue, bounty hunting and others.
Not sure at all about how or where you can manoeuvre the carrier and/or support ship. In real space, supercruise or wytch space. But I understand it can jump 500ly. But you need to synthesise special fuel.
I don't think you can crash it.
I understand it will invulnerable to attack.

Hope this helpe

My guess is that it will be partially credit based, but also require a minimum number of commanders to sign up as a squadron, and probably a series of missions and some material grinding.

These ships are basically mobile bases, and hence will be really really valuable. So it shouldn't be as easy to acquire as just throwing money at it.
I don't know about that. I've already thrown away many millions on shiny new toys, which turned out to be much less use than I hoped.

I have ~650M Cr.

It would be nice if you could rent a fleet carrier. I could see problems with that, though. Where would your ships go if you stopped paying?
