Private servers killed open play

I see other CMDRs all the time in busy systems. I have even found other CMDRs in the middle of nowhere and winged up to have the "what the hell you doing out here" conversation. Infact, it isn't the psychos that drive me into solo. It's trying to find an open landing pad at outposts!

ATM if you blow up a wanted ship in a wing you share the bounty with your wingmen, so the current incentive is to fight solo.

Wing trades are very small (unless your wingman is in a cutter :)). Maybe they can increase the rewards for these activities without causing too much crying?

Instead of splitting the bounty down the middle (50%), they could change it so that each person in the wing gets 65% of the bounty value. Or tweak the number to taste.

CG's are always full of CMDR's and places like Ray Gateway as it's the "Get your discounted ship" port. I always get excited when I see a CMDR in less popular systems like my home base though. Especially when it's some newbie in a Sidewinder or cobra, probably crapping their pants when they see me in my Python or FDL.

PVE players need to stop shouting "griefer" every time a CMDR takes them out. Open is dangerous, you're gonna meet alot of different people; some of whom want to pirate you or kill you for lots of different reasons.

PVP players need to put little more effort into their RP. If you're enforcing some kind of blockade, roleplay that and let your target in on the RP. If you're just looking to play the anarchic reaper; shout crazy things at them.

PVE vs PVP; they can co-exist.

In short, lets all make open nice and welcoming while still maintaining the dangerous aspects :D

Hear hear. Repped.

How about a flag system? If you're in open you can opt in or out for PvP and flag yourself as such. Also, in specific zones everyone goes PvP (with ample warning of course) regardless of how they want their flag set. If you just want more people in open, let people opt out of PvP. If you just want more targets, good luck getting people to login to open.

While I agree it's crap solo players can affect BGS I'd sooner have them in their own little group rather crying they got ganked at a imperial blockade because they fly a unsheilded *insert ship of choice here*

No need for a flag system. Those that can't compete can go hide in their private group.

I am in greater agreement with this. It is clear that private servers are not the problem, they are a response to a problem. People clearly want to interact with other player in a non-PvP environment. One cannot say they are wrong, as was said above; it is a game, and that is the game they want to play.

Yeah this is very valid point. The risk reward balance is heavily out of whack due to this. Maybe we need wing bonuses that go beyond just selling of commodities?

The solo bears would have a right tantrum but, let them.

If the Solo bears throw a tantrum, just tell them "We're not making Solo/PG worse, it's staying the same as it always has. We're just going to make Open BETTER"

its a game, play as you like and dont let a single person influence that play out of your comfort zone.
you wanna play solo do it, and dont ever feel bad about it.
you wanna try groups go for it, and enjoy the game with others.
you wanna take a risk play open awesome, but be warned... you know jus from the forums what lurks, but learn your ships and learn to read the space around you and youll do jus fine.

your always gonna find others that not only play differently, but see the playing field differently. many people say griefer when its not, and jus as many try to justify straight griefing. jus find what suits you and enjoy what they have given us, it would be a terrible shame for anyone to be chased away from such a wonderful experience.

fly safe and be well

NO NO NO NO. Open is perfect as it is. The last game I was this addicted to was when I played Ultima Online 20 years ago. That game had zero hand holding, zero controls on PVP, death was expensive, etc. and yes, there was rampant PKing.......and it was FINE. Why do games have to dumb everything down to cater to the casuals? If you don't want to deal with players play in Solo or Private.........problem solved. There is zero need for any changes. How much would that screw with immersion if you fire at a target and the ship takes no damage cause he's got some flag set that he's opting out of PvP? Ridiculous!

And for the record I have not killed a single CMDR in the game yet and have been killed once and pirated once.

Always see plenty commanders in open. Mostly in CG systems, but also in popular mining systems or trader routes. Open is far from dead.:)

I'm currently doing a local recon of unexplored systems around Jacques (75 LYs out) so pretty quiet here which is preferable in my weaponless under shielded Asp X but have met a few CMDRs along the way which I greet (to show I am not hostile) when I see them.

I dont mind pirates - providing they are willing to negotiate and open with diplomacy. Strangely enough I haven't come across many of the shoot first ask Qs later type.

"Combat logging"

Open is not dead, had to farm some data mined wake exceptions the other day and around certain systems and CG it was like a train in in India, stacked!

"Combat logging"
ok maybe that is a problem that needs to be addressed. I'm guessing the reason that can't be easily fixed is that the game relies heavily on client side to calculate things like damage, hit boxes, and well.....death. Typically a real server side architecture like mmo's charge a monthly fee cause of the server hardware required. Elite doesn't. If you flip that around and rely on your attackers to calculate YOUR death when your game shuts down that opens it up to hacking too much. Also, imagine the game crashing and your ship is persisted and you die cause the game crashed and your ship persisted and you got murdered. That would annoy people waaay more than combat logging.

It's a technical problem I'm guessing.
