PS5 Error CE-108255-1 (Crashes / Crashing) with Elite Dangerous

i've had a handful of crashes on PS5 for Elite. Typically i'm jumping out of a system, and it freezes and maybe once a crash to desktop with Sony's error screen popping up.

When i restart i'm always at the destination system.

Interestingly I just had one exiting the game!

Edit: Had one further crash entering the game and jumping to a totally empty system. Not great. I wonder if FDev look at the crash reports.

All 108255

Sooooo. I was doing PTN booze cruise up at Rackham's Peak this weekend and boy, this the PS5 did not like.

Lots of CMDRs in system on all platforms, full Fleet Carriers jumping around.

Equals lots of CE-108255-1s. I think there is some network incompatibility going on. When it's polling something.

Crashes happen between SC jumps and drops and when accessing menus.

Not good. Definitely the worst I've had it.

Should be interesting to find out how the other platforms fared in there at the same time.

To be honest everyone on all platforms were complaining of bugs, docking permission refused on Fleet Carriers which should have allowed squadron members, pads broken at Rackham's which refused to allow docking when clear, people getting stuck in SC tunnels etc etc.

Only crasher was me on PS5. 😂🤣

I’ve found it a lot worse in the last week or so - 2 or 3 crashes per play session. Now, I have been hanging out in a couple of systems with lots of Fleet Carriers (chasing Imp Rep ...) but, even, so ...
Yeh the last few weeks have definitely been worse for me too.

I still think it's a network type of issue. I am wondering if instead of a network disconnect we just get a crash instead.

I have seen a few network drops 'orange sidewinder' etc but, more often than not it just crashes.

I've lost count how many error reports I've submitted. Crashes on two accounts even done reinstall and database rebuild. Not helped.

I don't have more crashes on PS5 than I had on PS4
Glad you don't have many issues. Unfortunately for me. Many. But, it's just Elite and highly dependant where I am.

So I am blaming that for now. Most of my other games crash rarely if at all.

How do you know it doesn't? I guarantee those 11 characters are more than decorative.
Yeh it's really useful to the end user.....

https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/support/error-codes/ps5/ce-108255-1/ (filled with a load of generic guff which doesn't help)

I just hope FDev are getting visibility of them as I have uploaded a hell of a lot of these reports this weekend...

And tbh people have had dead consoles with this error and RT games unable to run at all. It seems a catch all for many woes unfortunately.

I call it the Cyberpunk error as that was much worse than Elite. Most of my games don't crash though. I have seen this infrequently or not at all in most games.

I guarantee that codification is not for the benefit of the end-user.

Moreover, what exactly do you think the end-user is going to do with "more" information? They are not part of the teams who diagnose and troubleshoot these errors. These codes serve as diagnostic pointers to technical groups. They are not intended to make the user feel better about or more in control of what went wrong.

EDIT:: Clarity.

Google them, they basically tell you your ps4 crashed. They give no info as to why or what caused it.
Pretty much this. I think they should have spent some time splitting this generic code down a little personally as it can mean anything from the software has an issue to your console is broken.

Useful.

Anyway in this case I am 90% sure it's Elite, with some issue in BC that's causing a glitch rather than a broken console.

Of course google doesnt. Its not available on Google because that information is not for consumption by the general public. This is a classic example of the customer wanting to know more, even though they are not qualified or have the capability to do anything with that information.

I think knowing 'is my console broken' or 'is it a software issue' is not an unreasonable ask as a customer personally.

This error code with Elite doesn't give you 100% confidence either way. We'd need FDev to investigate and let is know.

My belief is that it's a software issue but, what do I know I don't have the capability and am not qualified.

Of course, it's not. But having access to the technical docs which explain the error code in detail won't help you with that particular (perfectly reasonable) question.
