Pushing negative reviews on SOCIAL MEDIA

I think people need to take a step back. Endlessly being outraged about something isn’t healthy. If you don’t like the way a game is moving then just stop playing it. Prefer something else? That’s great. Enjoy the game? then that’s great too! But the fact is everyone feels “empowered” by their ability to voice their disatisfaction at any one thing at any given moment to the point it’s just an endless sludge about people wanting WHAT they WANT and it’s stops becoming what the game will be. Everyone has different expectations and I think the outrage comes from people not managing their own expectations. Like with Cyberpunk most of the complaints I hear are people moaning it’s not like GTA but it’s actually an RPG not a free roaming Sandbox like GTA. Same for odyssey the amount of people saying VR is not working in it.. VR was stated as to not work in it from the getgo. I just think the main problem here is the Devs will try to please everyone (because of the vocal outrage) that we end up with a game that doesn’t actually work for anyone.
There’s a saying you can’t please everyone all the time.

Yeah, I think there's a strong selection bias on forums and review sites towards people who are unhealthily addicted to righteous indignation.

Mild disappointment at a bug-fraught release, or underwhelming product addition, or less-then-stellar meal at a restaurant, or whatever, becomes the launchpad for their next delicious vengeful crusade of angry reviews/letter writing/organsied protest over some that's vanishingly small in the grand scheme of life, consumes way more of their thoughts and time than is proportional and healthy, because deep down this is the part they enjoy much more than the actual product: picturing themselves as David vs Goliath; the rush of feeling like they've exerted their will on "the big boy", even if only in a completely Phyrric and detrimental fashion.

Organise! Fight! Burn it all down! Yeeeessss! Feel my POWER!

Those mindsets might be helpful if the target is a petrochemical company trying to knock down your neighbourhood, but become problematic (not to mention cringe) for everyone else who's got the perspective to take a "that's a bummer, hope they fix it or they won't get any more of my money 🤷" view, when it's something as relatively inconsequential as a game, when the only possible outcomes are either a) "improvement in the current product" or b) "finding something else to do"... because they run the risk of killing the product and making the choice of outcome B on behalf of everyone, instead of just for themselves.

But watch this, they hate it being pointed out.

It wasn't disappointing, they told us exactly what David said they'd tell us. If you expected more, that's on you, not Frontier.

Look, if you are disappointed, which let's be clear, is only because you built up expectations beyond what Frontier laid out, if you are disappointed, you are free to play something else, in fact I encourage you to.

And before I am accused of white-knighting, yes Frontier did mess up the release of Odyssey. I have always said releasing it to meet a financial year-end deadline to please shareholders is the wrong attitude to have in game development, but that's my opinion, and I accept that Frontier will not listen to anything I say.

You basically have three choices in all this ...
Play the game.
Don't play the game.
Complain.

Only one of those is the wrong choice.

"White knighting" is a term like "virtue signalling": it's just insulting someone else for having a different opinion without having to argue against that opinion.

I will never be intimidated in to silence by anyone. So far this game is unplayable for me and I will continue to say so until it changes.
Did you know I played Cyberpunk 2077? And it played perfectly fine for me with almost no bugs or issues at all.
Look at my PC specs and ask yourself, how did I manage to play a game known for being a buggy mess and unplayable on even the highest spec machines?

GeForce Now

While right now, I am able to play Odyssey ok, not fantastic frame rates, but ok, I do consider that as the years progress, I might struggle to play EDO or other games. This is where GeForce Now comes in.

If you are still open to a suggestion, give it a try. It's how I play Cyberpunk 2077.

Wow.. it’s not like you’re a witness in a trial against the mob. So the hyperbolic use of language such as “Intimidated” etc is a little much. On a personal level I get a nice 60fps on ultra (1440p to boot and I don’t have a massively high end system) consistently wherever/whatever I do. And we see your mileage does indeed vary. I would suggest maybe contacting customer services and getting a refund.

Many of you really make me smile. I'm not even complaining about game performance but about years of miscommunication and stupid missions. Some of them you are forced to log of and log in constantly. Yet you guys are fine with it. I have always paid for Frontier products just like all of you and my money is no less important than those who are now criticising me for yet another mediocre product and Horizon's still unresolved problems from a pure gameplay perspective. Yet here you are saying that the complaints are childish and I should play something else. Continue to defend the mistakes of others and consider those like me uncomfortable and opportunistic. The result is that Frontier has sat on its work and you like to participate in steaming to award the prize for the best screenshot. Now that's gameplay. I remember there have been bugs for 2 years with gameplay mechanics not working.

I think we need to encourage other Commanders to try other games or explore other entertainment.

I know many play Elite Dangerous as their only game. Hopefully Frontier will come through for them.

The most powerful tool for change are the gaming media journalists like Jason Schreier.
It was a godsend that Yong Yea covered the launch of Odyssey.

I do not know what consumer resources Xbox and PS4 have. But describing factually to console management what Odyssey for PC is like might ensure a more thorough evaluation of Odyssey by console QA before accreditation. This might better protect our console Commander brothers and sisters.

Instead of doing this, why don't you let people discover what they like and don't like for themselves?

After the disappointing road map in terms of communication, content and perception of their own product, I think all that remains is to use social media as well as FDEV does against them.

For many months we have been streaming uselessly with boring competitions on the best screenshots. A bit like when they give you sugar in school for the best drawing.

The roadmap is deliberately bland and useless because Frontier knew very well what they were releasing and David Braben did too.
It's pointless to treat us like disappointed consumers without ever taking any real internal action.
We have problems in the old release of gameplay and in the new DLC of performance, quality of life and again of gameplay.

We've seen over the years how FDEV kept their word for a little over a month and then reverted to their famous mediocrity.

Yesterday's announcement on Twitter was literally flooded with criticism but no one at FDEV seems to care.

We can use their useless social media communications as a sounding board to prevent new buyers being lured in by deception on a product that will also be broken in 2022. We have to be honest with ourselves, we have already had broken mechanics for 2 years and they will remain broken for a very long time and may never even be fixed. I think the new DLC will never get the proper attention but the usual mediocrity.

Frontier clearly doesn't know what to do with Elite.
It's a burden they have no vision or ability for.
They weren't even able in a week to build a real road map after it was announced to us to calm things down and they ended up with even more problems.

We are cheated and at the same time we know that Elite is the only game of its kind on the market. We're stuck because we don't want to go back to Horizon with the same mechanics we've seen for over 4-5 years, and we've been so starved that we play an obnoxious version just to see something different with the knowledge that it was a legalised scam with ad-hoc releases to make us believe what it wasn't.

From my point of view they deserve all the negative reviews on their every press release or social media message.

PS: we are all happy that with the patch of June 10 we will have the possibility to earn ARX with walking activities right? ahahahah what a shame.
Is this asking people to go and spread negative stuff on social media against Frontier?
Really now?
This is a new low.

Where are the mods?!?

Voicing complaints about the game (in a way that is not attacking people) is fine, even better if it's done in a constructive manner.

What's childish is suggesting that people go on a review-bombing campaign on social media. That helps absolutely nobody, and if anything will just cause FD to abandon the game entirely.

Most of the comments in these forums are casual, why? Because everyone who wants to FD is because they do not know how they work, I have not seen in my life better technical support, I have not seen in my life that despite not saying anything they put secret content so that the players can find it, because the thargoids existed since almost the day 0 of the elite, it escaped a developer in a conference but few noticed and boila, a commander is intercepted in hyperspace, many people ask for exploration and I see the new ones complain that they do not say anything They don't do it because people who want exploration don't want to know anything, because well, you say I have put a living guardian in this system and there is planet there, you have it, that is the mentality of the new ones that you want everything, this is the most DLC great that has entered the elite, it is a DLC that has been made based on an existing game, it is not a game from scratch, because of course it will have a problem and more when they have to be careful in an engine as beast as the COBRA which is capable of predicting solar systems before they are discovered in reality, that has a lot of complexity, it in a line of code and everything collapses, but you only know how to whine without having any idea how to make a game, but then you play COD or similar and zero complaints, elite dangerous is a very complex simulator is not an arcade from three to fourth, that's why this is happening, they will have put things that they will never say until a player finds it, I know that first hand, FD does a good job and in all the DLC that are bigger than the average making changes there were always problems, all of them.
