Python Mk II & Updates To The Gamestore

Hi All :)

Well one things for sure, this topic certainly has peoples attention...a lively debate! :D

This is good news.
But fdev... let's have subs and not ships purchasing, even stealthily. I mean who has 16000+ arx off the bat banked!?
Q: how long to bank 16k arx via ingame only?

And me. :)
Just for the record, currently I have 28,000 plus Arx, all obtained by in game play.
Okay, I'm retired so I've been able to play most days for quite some time.
I personally dislike the idea of subscription, I don't think I would support that type of income for Frontier.

How do I feel about this new announcement?...I'll watch the livestream to perhaps get a better idea of what this ultimately means for my own personal gameplay, though I think initially it won't alter drastically. 🤷‍♂️

Jack :)

I dunno. The minute peeps detect that factory fresh Python 2 in the water its

iu
Will they give a sticker : killed pythons mk2 and the number of stars ?

Hi all,

Pretty sad about the paid early access to a ship, regardless of whether or not it's any good, that definitely goes against FDev's previous position on pay-to-win (The Cobra MkIV decision was a bit iffy too). Expecting LEPpers to pay for content is pretty poor because so far only cosmetics have been excluded from LEP, regardless of how weasily one can interpret the original wording of the two LEPs that were on sale (Kickstarter and Horizons editions of the LEP).

And no, not all LEPpers are swimming in Arx like Scrooge McDuck. I've barely been able to play since Arx came in and I've got hardly any of them. The Python Mk2 discussion is a bit academic for personally because I'll probably not earn enough credits to buy one before August any way! :D However it's the principles and previous "promises" that are being broken that I'm bothered about, not really how it affects me.

At least I'm back playing a bit of the forum again :D
.... I might just raise the re-point about why-not-send-out-this-announcement-out-by-email so I can get flamed by people insisting that everyone must come to the forum to get their news ;)

Cheers :)

They haven't said in what direction, but if they decrease the grind then what's the point of pre-engineered ships in the shop. Sounds like they would increase the grind to make the shop versions more appealing.
The post did mention that the changes would be on reducing material grinding and refocusing engineering toward a more specialization-driven mechanic, hence the pre-engineered approach intended on expediting the process for any incoming waves of newcomers, not to mention- which they oddly didn’t- that being able to pick up a pre-engineered ship will also give the newcomers- and mid-to-late gamers- a better idea of how any given set of specializations fit into any given gamers’s preferred playstyles as they begin to experiment and develop their own styles and strategies.

p.s. … like how I want a hammer for spacelegs melee

Ravenous wallet fish after morsels of flesh more like.

It will be interesting if this is a one off though, or that if it makes kerching the next ships will also be introduced like this.
It would be a one off for what reason?

Perhaps Frontuer have decided that getting new players is not so easy and extracting money from those who are already committed is an easier task?

I don't get all this negativity. I don't get all the "pay to win" comments. I don't get all the LEP entitlement.

Y'all are getting a new ship on Aug 7th. If you want 3 months early access, pay some ARX and help support future development. The pricing works out less than 3 coffees from Starbucks (and even less if you've stored up any ARX).

We also get the option of buying pre-built ships. We don't have many details on it, but the least effort way of doing it is just supplying a pre-engineered ship at Grade X (my guess, grade 3). I am aware of plenty of people who refuse to engage in engineering either because of the time commitment, the "grind" of material gathering or the difficulty. Some of them have had a much harder time or even missed out on fighting Titans because of it. If they could pay for a pre-engineered (grade 3) AX ship that gives them access to more activities in game - how can that be a bad thing? It's win-win for the game and the player.

We also get engineering enhancements. Whilst I doubt they go as far as I'd like, this is still great if it makes things more accessible to everyone.

I hope the renewed focus on the store might mean we get more things to spend ARX on though. Roots already mentioned it, but I'd love to be able to properly customize my carrier interior. I've seen what you did the the customization options in F1, let's have some of that please :)

Looking forward to the livestream tonight, I hope we get a few more details. (And I hope Paul and the rest of the team packed their asbestos underwear. I think I'll be turning chat off!)

What I mean is, the pre engineered ships are sold as a package, and that the danger is if the game treats that as a 'baseline' rebuy option (a bit like the alternative starter ships) its generating modules out of nothing. So if you have an FDL with G5 everything you can kit out other ships by taking the modules, blowing up and then organ donoring for free.

Its why if this is the case the max should be G3 and / or tech broker modules and not the full G5.
Yes but bountied ships modules were tagged and so traceable a similar tag on the package modules and then the rebuy just replaces what’s on board at the time so no extra free engineering to cheat the system with.

I happened to see it first on Twitter, and I clicked through to the announcement on the public website. No forum required or even signposted. I didn't even bother looking on the forum at the time because I knew it would be full of people making weird points about untrue criticisms...

How do you win at ED anyway???
You practice for years on end. That is something that can't be bought. :D

If rebuy is 0 Cr, is this a potential (albeit limited) exploit?

If you can take out a module from a bought pre-engineered ship and the rebuy is indeed 0 Cr, does that become an engineered module printing machine? Buy new ship, take out module, blow up ship and get a new one (with identical modules) and do it again?
If someone wants to use real money to do that all imma do is give them side eye. XD

let's have subs and not ships purchasing, even stealthily.
As long as subscription are purely optional with zero hint of p2w i see no issue with them.

I would assume that the insurance cost of pre-builts will be the same as a player built ship to the same spec. It would also incentivize building yourself at Jameson/Li Yong Rui for the discounts.

So, don't buy without a rebuy.

Aside from all the debates, the fairness/unfairness of P2W and degrees of predatory monetisation, I can't get out of my mind the image of somebody buying an AX ready Chieftain for real money, and then perhaps having to make 35 jumps to get to the nearest AX combat area (provided there's a fuel scoop - on an AX ship) only to be mercilessly pulped by a Cyclops (and its swarms) multiple times.

Maybe I'm being too extreme 🤭

Hm, on reflection regarding sending out emails, that is absolutely how LEP holders should have been told. First.

But then again FDev haven't told LEP holders what is happening at all. The outcome is some pretty toxic threads here already which is absolutely FDev's fault this time around (long-time readers will know I hardly ever say that, but this is just plain stupid.)

Engineering balance sounds good, I would love a material trader balance as they are the cruellest people in Elite!
Pre built ships for ARX seems like a no brained, to get players in it will be good. As often in Elite you have to decide what you arendoing with your friends and then spend an hour altering a ship and remembering where you put the relevant modules.
A quick way for new people to join sounds fine to me.
Let's just stay away from subs are are my way of contributing to Elite development.
Strangely the current gameplay is based around owning and upgrading ships, if this is circumvented then we will need new content to sink our teeth into.
Interesting to see what plans could be for the future too!!

Yes I guessed it would be all over the socials too, but I don't read them, don't have time! The only way I manage to stay up to date with the game news (inside and out) is to listen to the Galnet News podcast and have the Staff/Developer posts page pop up every morning using Snooze Tabs.... I used to use the RSS feeds but I found they became unusable for me.

Anyway back on topic! Untrue criticisms or not, I'm glad that at least FDev doesn't censor the forum much and allows dissent here (or seems to)... maybe because it knows it if was too strict then that really would be the end of a bulk of their income sources for ED.

Cheers :)
