Python Mk II & Updates To The Gamestore

As a hardcore player, would you not like to see the game continue to be developed for the foreseeable future? You do understand that development is not free?

Why are you writing as if this is nothing but pure greed?
Because if it wouldn't be greed we would have a good Odyssey launch
I prefer when games make profit from being well made and not from overwhelming microtransactions

"Credits" was referring to in-game currency not real-world virtual currency and you know it.
Yes. I'm not suggesting otherwise. "Virtual currency" and "Pay 2 Advance" were on two separate lines with two separate dates in the early precedents I quoted, because they're two separate things which Frontier thought of independently of Tencent.

The ability to pay £10 and get 1,000,000 in-game credits (values hypothetical, never stated) was what was suggested in the Kickstarter.

Sure, there wouldn't have been an intervening virtual currency involved (except, presumably, on XBox) but it would still have been very straightforwardly "Pay 2 Advance".

This current plan wouldn't be significantly better if Frontier was selling "Python 2 Early Access" as a £9.50 expansion pack without going via ARX, would it?

I will never understand why you abandoned the consoles. They would be one of your biggest markets. It just doesn't make much sense from a financial perspective.

Apparently you are wrong about that .Or it would be on consoles. But what do I know..

Will you have enough if the next three ships are sold on the same basis?
I never paid a single Cent for ARX, I even bought some rather expensive cosmetics with the free ARX I got and I still have more than 47000 ARX left.
Given that I'll continue to get ARX for free: Yes I'll have enough for the next 3 ships too.

What the hell are you guys all doing with your free ARX?

Edit: And even if I hadn't enough: Waiting a few weeks to get it for free shouldn't be that hard.

I understand that a company needs to make money and the past year or so has not been kind for any business (except for certain really big ones)--I can see and feel the squeeze at my workplace, too. That said, I think ships for ARX is not a good idea and will leave a bitter taste in the mouths of many players, no matter how it's implemented.

Instead, I'd be happy to pay, say, 10...15€ a pop for 10...15 hour play time story-based mini DLC-s dropping each quarter. These could award in-game credits, unique cosmetic items for ships, suits, guns and fleet carriers and also unique non-overpowered ships and modules. Things like a rare smuggler version of Cobra MKIII with less heat so it can escape scans more easily (ahem, millenniumfalcon, ahem🙃) or a true racing-tuned Mamba with no hardpoints but better agility and speed. These stories could also be an outlet for currently existing but unattainable community goal modules--say, prof. Palin sending you on a tour to visit various Thargoid landmarks (including activating a surface site) to unlock their secrets and gifting a class 5 and 6 corrosion resistant cargo rack as a reward. There is an existing precedent to these kind of small stories in game already: the Ram Ram Tah's Guardian missions.

I think this would be much more welcomed by the playerbase than ships for ARX🙃

For everything here, including pre-built ships I was actually either excited, or at least approving of (Especially if announced with new players getting some Arx to ALMOST get to the kits so they can kickstart what they like the most in the game after trying it on their own. Then there is the distribution announcement for the ship...

To be clear: I was excited for the ship too. But, seeing how it's going? I hope this isn't a pattern. I'd rather see the other three ships locked behind another paywall DLC with the new feature rather than this (By the way, it might still even be worth due to the ship kit included in the purchase, depending on what it is). But it's hamstringing along specifically new players whereas the older ones have (And quoting an avid day-one player) "An s-load of Arx". For them, it won't be an issue, but.... That period is too much. Newbies will look at this move, see a threat of it repeating and some might not engage further, thus sacrificing FDEV's long-term revenue. As for players who might have returned, this discourages them from even contemplating it.

Especially considering the hype-cycle built around the ship. A couple weeks I'd be fine with, a month is still fine. Three months, or in other words around about the entire duration we've known this ship was coming? Not so much. It burns ALL the goodwill that the studio's been sitting on and turns the hype built up into a giant sore wound which will haunt the devs with players not living it down. Especially since it approaches ANOTHER issue faced by studios which sell vehicles for real money: Namely, refund for potential changes to the product after the fact. The Python Mk2 is a new ship and any changes made to the flight model for the worse will be a target for someone to LOLsuit the developer because they changes the product he had paid for. Guess why "World of X" games almost never change the premiums there, even if they are blatantly overpowered?

Honestly, this reminds me of a house owner who goes against the common knowledge of dowsing flames with water. Instead he has the brilliant idea that... Gasoline will help! With predictable results.

I seriously hope this part of the announcement is reconsidered by someone who has knowledge in PR (There, moderator. I rephrased it to not refer to braincell counts. Happy now?)

Is anybody else excited about whether that hatch on the roof of the MkII is just purely cosmetic or whether it will actually have some new functionality?

As bad as the "P2W" additions sound - elite can still be played solo in your own instance - there is no winning in singleplayer mode. So this news doesn't bother me at all.
If elite wants to keep going, FDEV has to source new ways to generate income - skins just won't make do forever and a new DLC is highly unlikely to release in the next few years.

Happy to hear about engineering getting the much needed attention btw - also excited about powerplay news and the secret feature later in the year.

Another question: what happens if a player buys a pre built ship but can't afford to rebuy it? Do they lose those modules or are they unlocked forever?
This could in theory be solved by tagging all the modules on the ship (and the ship itself) with the 'LOANED' property, meaning it's worth zero credits with a corresponding rebuy. My Cobra Mk III from my advanced starter option in Kickstarter had that, the only original module I have left of it is a class 4 cargo rack with 'LOANED' stamped on it.

I'd be fine with that if these modules are low level. G4 to 5 should be in game only IMO.

The development has never been free and it still happened without this nonsense.

It's whatever though. I doubt many people will buy into this. As a consumer, the only thing I can do is vote with my wallet so I'll never buy another Frontier product again due to this awful greediness.
